HiTech (or anyone),
Do you foresee the addition of Stuka Sirens in the game?
These would be sirens that would be heard by both the
pilot and those on the ground.
I notice that bombs that are falling have a whistle that
others can hear on the ground and while in the plane,
and that the sound changes as the source of it gets closer
or farther.
Could the same thing be done using a siren sound effect
for the stuka during a dive?
Would be a neat addition and really add to the immersion
factor...not to mention scaring the bejeebers out of people
on the ground! :)

the German's removed the sirens when they noticed the Russians used it as an indicator on where the Fresh Meat was:D and were not scared of it anymore.
-
I think I remember reading somewhere that the perforated dive breaks on the Dauntless gave her a distinct whine during a dive.
-
The Ju87D we have modelled in game didn't have dive sirens, they had been removed from all aircraft by that stage in the war.
I don't know if its accurate or a bit of bragging, but I've seen several claims that the Romanians were the first to remove them (along with the wheel spats) when they noticed that their own troops were just as frightened by the sound of dozens of screaming dive bombers streaking out of the clouds as the Russians were.
-
I know about the Stuka being the wrong model and
all that other stuff guys. Thanks.
Back in the day Mitzu had a sound pack that included
a Stuka Siren. To use it you had to use it in place
of the bomb release sound for that particular aircraft.
I don't think AH2 has separate folders for each aircrafts
sounds anymore so this isn't possible.
While you didn't hear the siren as you dove, you heard
it when you released the bomb. The effect of the
sound trailing away when you dropped and pulled
away was awesome cool! But..only the pilot heard it. :(
It would be a bit of fun if everyone on the ground
below heard that siren squeal! Big time fun!
And thats what I'm after. :D
-
You can get the individual folders by installing one of the custom sound packs, and then find a recording of the siren and use it to replace the standard bomb-drop sound.
My plane screams "LEEEEROOOOOYYYY JENKINS" when I kick off my DT. :D

best idea EVER
-
I recall an AW mission with Bash's squad the Airwolves, we all upped Stukkas just for poops and grins. As I recall, almost all of us landed multiple killz and the sirens were awesome! They definately made the plane more fun. It was one of my best flight sim moments ever.
BTW I still hate EA, those fardgin ice-holes. Still wont buy any EA game, Fuggum.

B26s never flew in a dogfight, Lancs never divebombed, N1ks and 190s never fought, and the allies never flew around in a gaggle of lalas and spit16s, point being this is a game, Il2s D model has the sirens, I want them here too.

However, the dive bombers still used whistles in the bombs themselves. Small siren like things were put into the tail of the bombs, and those made similar awful sound.

I have replaced the wind sound with the siren. The stuka flies so slow, that it really only is when it enters dives that wind is noticable. works fine.
-
They had them in ww2ol. You could hear it from the plane or a soldier on the ground. It sounded funky sometimes, they never had it right. And the novelty wore off quick.

WW2OL doesn't have the D-3 IIRC rather one of the earlier models that had the siren.

I have no clue which one it was, but it had a siren...kinda.

Well, it had to be a D-1 model or earlier since the sirens were removed on the D-3 and later models.

LOL:rofl
I think we've all gamed with that type.
Hell...I AM that type! :D

To simulate the stuka sirens, all you need to do is change the wind overspeed sound effect in the stuka to a siren sound. Since the stuka can only achieve the required velocity in a steep dive, it works reasonably well....although it does take some serrious speed.....for a stuka:D
-
Sirens? Sirens? How about the 40mm cannon pods under the wings so the darn plane can shoot something down for a change.
Poor Newbie + Stuka = Stocking Stuffer

Too bad the video was staged though.

I seem to recall in a soundpack, possibly Waffle's that when you dove from an altitude that you could get 300-400 knots behind you a siren would sound. This was done by making the wind folder a siren since the Stuka doesn't go fast enough in level flight to get the wind sound whipping up, it works wonders.

Ive been asking for the .37mm cannons for some time. It seems that it would make too many people afraid of a............................ .Stuka.

Don't see the harm, Hurricane D has them and the Hurricane is far more maneuverable than the Stuka.
-
Stuka 37MM were depleted uranium or something though were't they? I think Hurri IID are just standard AP rounds. It's a good chance I am totally wrong though.

:rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl
Seriously more like tungsten steel. If I remember rite they had shortages of this type of steel.
Also I think It only carried 10 or 12 rounds per gun.

A Stuka d5 would be more helpful.:D
You could scare the crap out of guys with those two 20mm's. :D
And how about adding the Bk 3.7 to the Bf-110 G2 as the Bf-110 G2R1

hehe we caled them Stukazoo's , the only effect they had the to make the Allies laugh so hard they couldnt control their mouses making it easy to get a shot on them, unless of course you were laughing to.:D
-
The old Stuka siren in WWIIOL sounded like a cat getting raped by a bull.
REALLY crappy...I think they took it out eventually.
Oh and I cancelled my WWIIOL account today.
I aint going back after playing this game. :-)
-
hey treize what is the actual inside joke to "leeeroy jenkins" ive only heard it in the videogame clip an thought it was funny.
-
OMG LMAO. if this is what you mean
leeeroy!
That is one of the most hilarious things I've seen in my life... and I thought these kinds of things only happen in staged comedy movies...
"...2.33 .. uh, repeating ofcourse, percentage of survival.."
"uh.... well that's lot better than we usually do..uh.. are you all ready g-"
"Awright, times up..LET'S Do THIS...LERRRRRRRRROY JENKINS!!!!"
" .... "
" .... "
" oh my god.. he just ran in!"
.. (everydody lies dead) ..
"Leroy, you were just stupid as hell.."
"At least I'm not chicken..!"
I mean, what are the odds of these things happening... with those kind of dialogues people doin' for real? ROFL
-
perfectly reasonable for that to happen
-
Interesting to note that whilst sirens were not generally fitted to JU87 D3's..........
Some were and the default skin rendering supplied by HTC is of a JU87 D3 that did have sirens.............

I suppose it is possible that HTC skinned its D3 in D2/1 garb???
