Post by: bkbandit on April 17, 2006, 01:22:30 PM
I have been playin aces high with a logitech ps2 knock off controller since i started, it never gave me any problem but now its messin up(maybe it was the update, maybe not).  I calibrated too many times to count in the aces high setup and in the regular control panel.  I need to get a joystick and dont noe what to get. What do u guys recommend.

I love my CH Fighterstick but it runs around $100.00 if money isnt an issue. If it is, I hear Saitek makes a good "twisty" stick for around 45-50.
("twisty" works for rudders)

Here are some popular pedals by CH:

http://www.chproducts.com/retail/pedals.html

There are others if you want to go up from there.  CH also make some quality Joysticks.

Do you mean 3 buttons or three triggers?  The Cougar is the only one I know that has a two position trigger.

These are expensive, and may be hard to find.

Many people use the Saitek, it has to be the best bang for the buck:

What you like is more of personal taste and how much you want to pay.  If you want a thread with 100 replys, just ask what one is the best :)  Good Luck,

Gunner

The X52 (saitek) has a primary trigger that is two stage.  Depress partially and you can fire MGs and depress fully and you can map it to a second function (fire all or fire just secondary).

Do a quick search in this forum and I'm sure you'll get a lot of reading material about what joysticks work, which are prone to failure, etc.  Joysticks are a personal preference.

I use the X52.

I found it to be a bit sloppy at first so I swapped out the spring for the one on my old 290 and now everything is good. It's an awesome stick.
Be carefull with the macro mapping though, I end up filling the text buffer with lots of ttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt ttt's and pppppppppppppppppppppp's still.

those rubber pedals look good. How much r they??

All the sticks hav all those crazy buttons lol.  I just need 3, i might not even need 3 i fly usaaf planes with the 6 50s:aok .  The one thats supposed to be out of the f16 looks good but does it com witht the throttle. I dont need the throttle just the pedals and stick.  This looks like its goin to be a 150 dollar trip lol.

the CH PRO pedals are great... about $100 US

you need a 8 way hat for looking around, trigger, and secondary trigger minium.... but with the good sticks, they have all those buttons so you basically don't need your keyboard.

i can fly all night, and only touch the keyboard to type on the text channels.

u guys got me wantin that f16 stick, i seen online. I dont want the throttle just the stick but i guess they come together(i hope theres a way i can get the stick alone), could i even use it in the game? That stick and the ch rudders would be great.  Funny thing is i need a anti spyware program now.  As im typin this the computer is tellin me that i got the spyware on my system. I noe its not related to the topic but for my to shell out the money for the stick and the rudder pedals(which might be a 300 dollar trip) i need this thing to work properly.  I need a spyware program that will clear my machine and continue to protect it.

I wish i can find the guy that invented spyware, I would tie him to the back of my camaro and drag the bastard form here to califronia(i live in new york city).  Makes the life of many hard workin people even harder.

Thanks alot 4 the suggestions, if u got anymore keep them comin.

I like CH Products the best for joysticks or pedals.

The F16 stick, the Cougar comes as a set, joystick and trottle.  It sounds like you may be looking from something a bit more basic.  I would suggest something that has at least a hat switch for views.  Maybe something like this:

http://www.chproducts.com/retail_flash/index.html

and a set of rudders may be what your looking for.  You can always add a throttle later.

If all you want is basics, you can get a Saitek 290 from Walmart for $20, my old one still works, despite being my 20 month old son's favourite toy.
