Title: Wifey getting abdominoplasty
Post by: Chairboy on April 18, 2006, 01:52:23 AM
Wife is going in for a 'tummy tuck' in the morning.  Anyone have any good ideas on ways to harass her during the next 4 weeks while she's recovering?

I kid, anyone have any experience with this surgery?  Stuff we should know about while she's healing?

A middle-aged woman had a heart attack and was taken to the hospital. While on the operating table she had a near death experience. Seeing God she asked, "Is my time up?"

God said, "No you have another 43 years, 2 months and 8 days to live. "

Upon hearing this, the woman decided to stay in the hospital and have a face lift, liposuction , and a tummy tuck. Then she went to a beauty parlor to change her hair color.

Since she had so much more time to live, she figured she might as well make the most of it.  While crossing the street on her way home she was hit by a bus and killed.

Arriving in front of God, she demanded, "I thought you said I had another 43 years? Why didn't you pull me out of the path of that bus?"

God replied, "I didn't recognise you.”

Tickle her, or at least send her intardweb jokes.  Laughing is gonna hurt like hell.

Seriously, if she uses the internet at all, make sure she can use it from wherever she recovers.  Laptops with wireless connections are great for this, and the main reason I switched to a wireless router was to ensure that my wife could get to the internet from wherever in or near the house she was.  If I can make her life better by a simple application of technology, then I win.  If your wife decides to sit out in the sun or in the kitchen or wherever while she recovers, then why not have internet accessability wherever she feels most comfortable?  That sort of thing really aids healing.

Dell has some inexpensive but feature-rich laptops if you don't have one already.  Lots of people bag on Dell desktops but their laptops are supposedly have a good bang for the buck ratio.

Or make her work on your airplane.  You're sure not doing a damn thing about it :)

Figure that she will be in quite a bit of pain. My wife had a rather hard time during recovery from reconstructive surgery. Your wife will likely not be able to lay flat on her back to sleep. If you have a recliner you might move it in the bedroom so she has a place to sleep and she can wake you to help her get up during the night. A walking stick might also help her in getting around for the first few days.

Thanks for the ideas, guys!

Regarding the web, we've already got a wireless setup and she has her own laptop, so she's covered there.  She's studying to get her real-estate license right now, and this will be a good excuse to buckle down over the next couple weeks.

We have a good double recliner downstairs in front of the TV, I think she'll live there most of the first week.

Because of our weight loss bands, we can't eat pills, so her pain meds are in liquid form.  The pharmacist boggled at the dosages and assumed it was for a kid when she filled the prescription yesterday.  When she explained it was for her, he seemed rather relieved.

We went to the clinic this mornin at 7:45, and after 1.5 hours of prep, she went in for the operation.  I'm at home right now, they said it'll be about 3-4 hours.  Fingers are crossed, hope it works out well.

I've lost over 130lbs recently, so this is certainly in my future. I'm curious to hear how it goes.

Good luck to her.

Just got her home from the clinic.  She's super drowsy, threw up once already, but she's asleep on the recliner now.  Looks like I'll be draining the wounds for a while, and she can't shower until the Doc says it's ok.

Boy howdy, she was out of it yesterday!

She was hopped up on morphine and percocet, and I probably could have drawn on her with a marker without her knowing it.

She slept in the recliner and is much more alert today, still using the percocet occasionally as required.  I'll get her to walk around as much as possible, it speeds up the recovery process.

She lost a lot of weight since we got our adjustable gastic bands implanted and had a big roll of excess skin around her stomach, so they basically cut it off.  She looks skinny now, that's the surgery.
