Heard about this on the radio recently, and I happen to believe it's pretty clever. There are sites such as The DNA ancestry project (http://www.dnaancestryproject.com) and Trace Genetics (http://www.tracegenetics.com/) that will run your DNA and provide you with a specific breakdown of your ancestry. It costs anywhere from $120 - $240 depending on the site, amount of services, etc.
Well here's the part that got my attention... appearently people are now running their DNA through, and checking for any small % of minority. One girl came up with 98% west european, and 2% east asian. Now, when applying for scholarships & jobs, she checks off Asian. This makes her available for alot more scholarships and affirmative action quotas. Another gentleman showed 90% west european and a small percentage asian, and another small % native american. He now qualifies for *alot* more scholarships than the previous girl.
So, for those trying to put your kids through college, it may just make a decent investment, aside from being pretty useful to those of you that trace your family genealogy.

Would Cro Magnon be traceable? And if so, would it be considered a minority?
-
After seeing your bicep in the other thread....I'd say it's traceable :)

In many cases of benefits, you have to be able to trace back to someone on the census that was taken when the government "relocated" them to the reservations. With some of the tougher ones if you ever leave the res or a designated area, you also lose your claim.
Depends a lot on what nation you're claiming to belong to.

I don't need any stinking scholarships...I'm done with school. My kids are clearly half Asian, so they would qualify, but the only way they are gonna get any scholarships is through excellence...I make enough to afford their education.
