Title: Flight Simulator 2000, Pro or regular version?
Post by: funked on October 11, 2000, 03:23:00 PM
What is the difference?  Is it worth it to pay for the pro version?

Extra instrument flying stuff, I think. Try flightsim.com , I'm sure they'll have a detailed analysis.

Man, I am so out of touch with civ flight sims after the advent of WarBirds H2H.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Duma is right about the Extra instrument stuff, the Pro version also have 4 or 5 additional Planes, one is the Concorde i think.

The Concorde is in MS 2000.  The Pro version gives you more gauges and insturments I believe.

Don't buy FS 2000 or Pro just for a larger plane selection.  If you go to www.flightsim.com (http://www.flightsim.com)  you can literally download thousands of great planes.   Although, there are no good Spitfire models.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif)

BTW, has anyone downloaded the 3xBeaver set? I have problems getting that plane to move.  I go full throttle and RPM, full the checklist for startup and the plane just wont move, even at full throttle.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/mad.gif)

Be sure to download that new Cessena on their main page, it is great.

ok i found more infos on the PRO version, it has
2 more Planes, the Mooney Bravo and King Air 350.
Then a specially IFR-Trainingpanel (for the Mooney
Bravo und King Air 350). Also a Flight-Dynamics and
Panel-Editor. 6 more Hi-detailed Scenerys and a
Flightschool Handbook.

ps. here http://www.flightsimulator.de/ (http://www.flightsimulator.de/)  you can
download some Planes & Copters for FS2000 too.

Which is more challanging and complex?  FS 2000, by far.

Try landing a 777 via ILS at Person Int.

Igloo, downloaded the Beaver set, but I don't have any problem with them. I'm using the Beaver in the Alaska mesh scenery, it's impressive!!!

Get Pro. The price difference isn't all that great, and most planes you can download need gauges that aren't included in the regular version.

About the Beavers not moving (those planes are about the best I've seen in any civilian sim ever, btw) there's a problem with some planes having zero prop pitch no matter what if you select them after certain third party planes (or something like that  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif). Selecting first the default cessna, then the Beavers might help. The patch is also supposed to fix this, but i'm not positive on that.

Funked,

What are your goals? What are you looking for in these?

Title: Flight Simulator 2000, Pro or regular version?
Post by: funked on October 13, 2000, 03:25:00 PM
Toad I am looking for something to replace an old game I had called SubLogic ATP.  This was an offshoot of SubLogic's original FS products (which MS bought from them) and it had several airliners with a good FM (for 1990), full navaids, ATC, and it scored your flight on how well you followed procedures, stayed on flight path, held altitudes and speeds, etc.

I just found out that a new version of this game has been developed, so I think I'll buy that.  It looks like FS2000 does not have ATC.

In that case, there really isn't a big difference between Plain and Pro. Take the cheap one.

Pro, IMHO, really doesn't add much with respect emulating current transport category flight in an ATC environment. Therefore, I wouldn't pay much of a premium to get Pro..certainly less than $5.

YMMV.

Could the Brake be on ? BTW thanks for bringing up the Beavers , got them , love the sound too  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) , funny though they don't have as much torque as the Cessna on takeoff . I just didn't know that there was that good of free stuff out now . Impressive to say the least .

Got the J3 cub too , the little yellow one , man love that idle sound . It's a cpu hog though , has a virtu view too which is nice .

Will download the Cessena tonight  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif) man that's one big mother download for just one plane  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Thanks again , hope you find out why they won't move for you , didn't have anyproblems here . But whats the click noise for btw ? I didn't install that anywere yet ???

When I go full throttle and RPM, the prop barely rotates.

That Cessna is awesome, 25meg d/l is it?  The Blue Angels F/A-18 is good too.  There is also an awesome Canadair Regional Jet for British Airways.

Yep about 25 mb  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

That tough about the prop , wonder WTF is up with that ? Do you have the patch in ? Plus I use the no cd crack too , which works fine . Still I wonder whats the click sound for ? It was in a separte folder from the other sounds .

OK got the F18 and BA jet wrote down , tonight the phone wire will be hot again  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

Funked, get Terminal Reality's 'Fly'.  You will not find a better sim, although FS2k is pretty good, it does nothing really well, whereas Fly does cockpits, flight modelling and clouds beautifully.  They both model the whole world in airports and navaids.  The scenery is better in FS2k generally speaking, but Fly has 5 satalite scenery areas which are very very nice!  Fly will run twice as fast as FS2k on your computer as well.  There are a couple of HUGE patches at fightsim.com.   One fixes a load of technical stuff and the other one is an optional terrain elevation model, which is supposedly more detailed in areas of mountains and stuff outside of the high detail areas.  Actually, Fly2k is out now, it has the patches built in, get it if you didn't already buy the original.

I should mention that Fly has ATC, while it's not terrific or as good even as the Flight Unlimited ATC, at least it's there and it works.  I believe there was an ATC add-on for Fs98 called Pro Flight or something...supposedly really good, but I never tried it.

The Douglas R4C aircraft for FS2000
is available here:
 http://www.roychaffin.com/rcs-panels.html (http://www.roychaffin.com/rcs-panels.html)
Just scroll down to the links (yeah the site sucks)

Scanned 1944 USAAF C-47 Pilot's Training Manual:
 http://www.avsim.com/cgi-bin/library/jump.cgi?ID=1850 (http://www.avsim.com/cgi-bin/library/jump.cgi?ID=1850)

This is the best "DC-3" available for FS2000.
IT IS SIMPLY AMAZING.
Do yourself a favour and check it out.

(the sound files are great for AH too !)

Sample pic (yeah this IS what it looks like):

You can get most any airplane for FS2000 by searching www.flightsim.com. (http://www.flightsim.com.)

Now if someone would make a decent Pilatus Porter and AN-2, I'd be happy. One of our soaring club members parked an AN-2 outside the club house, and boy did I want to take it for a spin  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif).

Anooother great plane: a Fokker F50 with an incredible panel and sound. Includes a detailed manual.
 http://www.flightsim.com/cgi/kds/main/menuchoo.htm (http://www.flightsim.com/cgi/kds/main/menuchoo.htm)

Important: there is a bug, you must delete the “Fokker50. ini” file from
your gauges folder in the FS2000 folder.

The problem with flightsim.com is that 90% of the planes have a very poor flight model.  I don't like being able to do a loop in a 767.

Read down the page of the link he sent they write about the scenery . Believe it's smoothed FS2000 , so that the plane will stand out better for the picture .

I got it downloaded last night , hope it flys as well as it looks  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

The Thunderbird F18 is pretty nice Igloo
, it has a nice virtual view  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) thanks , took me a little time to find the one you wrote about .

I was dissapointed on the Cessna 172 though , no virtual cockpit and because I always move the 3D cockpit down couldn't see all that well . Same with the beavers no virtual view  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif) guess AH has spoiled me on that . But still will use them lots I think  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Still the little yellow J3 cub was cool . Nicest virtual cockpit and the sounds are too cool when the engine comes back to idle .

The Canadair Regional Jet for British Airways was great too just like you said .

Thanks to you and all for the info , been having fun again working and flying the planes and game .
