A bit curious; one carrier alone caries more than twice the amount of planes found in the entire Danish air force. As such, it's a *real* force to be reckoned with.
How many does the US have, and what kinda sizes?

15, but I'm not sure. The "Ronald Reagan" is still being built.
-
Eh Santa? I'm getting the feeling that you're starting to suck up to us Americans, you planning to move here? (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)
First the Football question... now telling us how good our Navy is... hmmm...

A captured Bolshevik pilot once stated, "In battle, the fighters with the green hearts are generally in the minority. But when they're there, things realy heat up. They're all aces!"

Actually, we have more than we need now.
Would you Danes like to purchase a complete carrier battle group?
I think we can cut you a deal that will make you the envy of Europe!
-
they don;t have enough sailors to man a PT boat, let alone the carrier.
The entire population would have to live on it. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
-
At least a dozen active fleet carriers, probably more like 14 or 15. There are also several under construction.
That is NOT including those ships equipped only with helicopters or VSTOL aircraft.
We also have a LARGE number of inactive "mothballed" carriers.

Sounds like a good idea. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

Toad, I find it hard to visulize the Danish as a super power, heheeee, lol, roflol!!!!!
-
Toad, that'd be COOL!
ONE US nuclear carrier, and we'd be able to DOMINATE Europe.
We'd need some support ships too.
Hah, wouldn't that be great. Once upon a time, Denmark was the strongest seafaring nation in this region. The the Brits beat us. A US nuclear carrier would bring back the olden days.
1776, just wait. We've been big, small, big, small so many times now. We'll rule the waves again, some day. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
If Toad can get the deal through, it'll be sooner than anyone expects (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif).

Toad I bet the Chinese would be interested. Didn't they buy some Rooskie CVs?
-
Funked, they already bought half of our Pacific Fleet as a scrap metal, and one of their last bargains was a good old Kiev. It was out of duty since 1994, ant was rusting in Murmansk. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif)
If Chinese want a modern carrier - they should better talk to Ukrainians that dismatled Varjag on the Nikolayev shipbuilding plant...

Santa,
I think I can get this done for you, support ships and all.
As a gesture of good faith, send me $2 million (USD) and I will begin the paperwork.
You should see some amazing results about 2 days after I cash the check!

Isnt the new US CVN class due out in 2006?

to answer the original post:
Not enough! One anchored offshore off every major port with sorties flown over every major population center sounds good to me. It'll help Palestine, China, India, and Pakistan, Iran, Iraq (insert troublesome country name here)- get their act together as well as help the Arabs figure out what to charge for a barrel of oil to the U.S. Then the missile defense system would not be needed, think of the savings (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Hell, that's just like a rig me 'an my friend use for Bullfrogs here in Missouri.
We use a '60 though. Doesn't tear the meat up as much as a .50 cal.

"Rule Britannia, Britannia rules the waves!
Britons never, never, never shall be slaves!"
And you know it.
You American upstarts, wait until you've had naval supremacy for 500 years - then you will know power!
You will also know how to milk your heritage, when you lose it all.

Dowding, has-beens like us are pretty good at the latter!
And, btw, Nelson got lucky.

Hehe, Funked (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) USSR had only two ships that could be called "carriers": Kiev, equipped with VTOL Yak-38s, combat range only 250km, and Tbilisi (Admiral Kuznetsov), not equipped with a catapult, carrying MiG-29K and Su-27K 4-th generation fighters. I don't count large anti-sub ships like Leningrad, Moscow etc, equipped with Kamov helicopters.
Dowding, even Russian Navy has a longer cobat record then Americans. The only conflict between British and Russian navy in 1854-55 was lost by Russia in a Black sea, but we made much better in the Baltic, White sea and in the Pacific (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
Anyone remembers Russian ships that helped North during American civil war?

Nelson was a tactical genius. It is heresy to say otherwise. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)
The Royal Navy WAS the dominant naval force for half a millenia.
If America can come anywhere near that, I'll be impressed. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
