Title: bleedin Apple users
Post by: Vulcan on April 19, 2006, 06:42:31 PM
Just spent an hour diagnosing a problem between them and apple.com that they blamed on our firewalls content filtering.

Turned out apple.com is providing content safari can't handle (it works fine in firefox on the same machine).

So, are the Apple users "bleedin" because you injured them somehow?  If you smack 'em on the head, don't do it to hard, or their brain might pop out of their ear!  ;)

http://www.apple.com, click on the shop, something from metrics.apple.com tries to identify plugins... thats what does it (tries to see if you have realplayer, shockwave, quicktime etc).

Something in the support/download section as well, forgot the name, it went to a black coloured https website and they had to put a key in to get the download.

Apple users don't have brains, its part of the application process to own an Apple - Steve Jobs does all your thinking for you.

Well, everything renders fine for me in 'Store' and can't find any problems in download section. None of the true apple geeks I checked with have heard or read of any Safari problems on Apple.com

Did you report this to Apple?

Do you need some counseling for that obsession you have going, or do you think you can cure yourself? :p

No I don't need to report it... I don't care :)  the apple geeks here can report it.

Its not my obsession its theres:
them: "Apple.com doesn't work, its your firewall"
me: "works for me in IE"
them: "well it doesn't work for us therefore its your firewall"

...1 hour later after twiddling with IPS and CFS settings, sniffing packets etc...

them: "oh it works for us in firefox, thats wierd ummm..."
me: "grrrrr"

i guess i'm going straight to teh h311, but i wanted a unix based laptop without putting a lot of effort into it.
i used to tech support too, plenty of less than half wits on any OS angry at the tech guy all the time, usually full of unreasonable accusations & demands.

Hummmm lets see ... Apple has switched to a unix OS ... Apple now uses the x86 processor, Apple will now let you run windos.

Looks like Apple is just another brand of pc now. So you get to pay more for hardware that you can run anything on. Why not just buy a HP, or better yet, just build your own pc the way you like it. hehehe :D:D:D

ehm.. acutally the intel powerbook is priced very competitive even if you would load windows on it. Compare the specs with any other brand of the same harware quality and you shal see.

I am not, nor have i ever been an apple evangleist but im labeled as such here and on a few other hardware sites. On the mac bbs that i am on i am apparently a mac hater because im critical of many things they do. I even asked Vulcan for some info he had to put some of the apple fanatics in a corner on a network issue.

I like my powerbook. Its good looking, has good performance in a small package and OSX is for me a better OS than Windows for what I do. I would not mind beeing allowed to put OSX on a "pc", and I do like to be able to put windos on a powerbook for gaming and a few apps that does not excist on the OSX platform.

Good points all, Nilsen.

The last "laptop" I owned weighted 26 pounds and ran CPM for a OS ... anyone else own a Kaypro? :D

Being retired ... the computer stays at home ... I have no need of it while hunting, fishing, or laying on the beach.

As for OSX there are better versions of unix that run fine on a x86 system.

my first "laptop" was an IBM something. It looked like a sowing machine and the keyb was detachable. It didnt have a battery either and it cost a fortune. I still have it around somewere

-edit- lol i found it on the net. PS2

When I saw the title, and who created the thread, my first thought was, "Vulcan is offering a tutorial on how to bleed Apple users."

My response would have been, "Bleeding has never been known to cure anything.  All it does is kill the sick faster."

I pictured Vulcan having all sorts of images of Apple users with leeches attached to them and Vulcan dancing around like an imp gone mad.  I just knew I was going to have to chut it down.

But instead, I find a rather bizarre discussion going on.

Actually one of the apple users did cut herself yesterday, caught her fumbling through the first aid kit. Apparently someone left a knife lying around and you know that you can't trust apple users with real knives....

Yes, bad things can happen when you mix an Apple with a knife.  Not to the knife.
