Title: LEO Purchase of Sig P226
Post by: M36 on April 21, 2006, 01:00:41 AM
Interstate Arms in MA. has Sig 226, 9mm's that they are selling to LEO's for only $299.95 + $10 shipping. The guns are turn ins from the Toledo, OH PD. They are in good condition, come with 2 15 round mags, Trijicon night sights (dim or out completely). I recieved one Tues. and it shows normal holster wear and signs of use. From what I have read on other boards guys have found that they have been shot very little. Overall, the general opinion including my own is that they are a swinging deal. You will need an FFL to do a transfer, unless your dept. gives you the letter on the dept letterhead. The site is below, follow it to the LE section and follow the instructions. Might want to call and see what they have left.  There are also some S&W's listed .
I know there are some of you LEO 's running (flying) around in here.

Cheers,
Jim (M36)

I can't read it either, very nice looking gun though.

Here's a link to the manufacturers website; seventh gun down in the list.

Get a load of the prices, $1748 for the custom 1911 in the pic above and it's one of the cheaper guns!

If you simply must get a 1911, at least buy one from Kimber or another quality manufacturer and not colt. You'll get a far better weapon at a far better price.

Im leaning more towards a Springfield Armory, although I have not really looked into Para Ordinance yet. Guess I should.  I have to admit that I am not really wild about Kimber. I have read good, and bad things about them and dont want to invest that much to find out who is right.

Do a search for my posts here on my Springfield armory ultra compact V10.(small oficer size 1911)

Then go around to all the local gun shops and ask who has had more trouble, sprinfield owners or Kimber.

Every shop keeper I talk to around here has had more then one person have springfield problems. Only a few mentioned kimber problems.

On the upsided, springfields customer service is good, and the M1A I bought from them works very well.

the 1911 had more then one problem out of the box brand new. (extractor not installed right, slide release misshaped. The Barrel link was to short as well, and I threw the  mags away they were so crappy.

they repaired it all for free, including shipping, but that is no excuse for poor qaulity control on their pistol line.   (it is still not 100% reliable even with round nose ammo)

STI, the company that took a great looking gun and made it one of the ugliest ones ever produced.

But it can shoot. If your a pistol person that shoots not 200 rounds a year but more like 10000 then sti is the best. I have a kimber and a sti rangemaster the sti is twice the gun as the kimber. I dont even shoot the kimber anymore so i put it on my carbine 1911 kit. Sti are at a level that no one can touch. The price is really high but i dont have 50 guns in the safe i just purchase a gun for life. I go out to the range once a week and sometimes let people shoot my sti. They have a smile from ear to ear.

BTW if you own a kimber our ie 1911 its just called a 1911\

If you own a sti, limcat, dawson ect you own a BLASTER

does STI make a gun that is not embarassingly ugly?

I doubt that they will outshoot a Kimber.

I've got a few Kimbers, and the only one I ever had trouble with was the 9mm (works like a champ now).

The Kimber .45s were absolute workhorses in the NSSF media education program, and we shot the living hell out of them.

I still think the STI Trojan is the hands-down best out-of-the-box 1911 in America, but I recommend the Kimbers at their lower price points. And they don't even advertise on my show!

If you simply must get a 1911,....

Yep I guess I do. Carrying P239 in .357 SIG for off duty now, and looking for the 1911 as another.  We were issued HK USP 40's several years ago. At a qualification had 7 failure to fires, not including others, and found that it was a problem among others. There was also a story circulating that a PA. LEO was killed when his HK failed to fire. Dont know if that is true or not and would hope not. I wrote a scathing officers report and was allowed to carry my P226 .40SW which I bought after my P226 9mm was stolen, which was my orginal choice in '93 when we got away form revolvers. Now since we have gone to Glock 22's to replace the trash H&K's, my P226 is not good enough anymore. God bless the smart administration in the ivory tower.

I guess people with bad experiences with Kimber are similar to mine with H&K. I would never, ever pusrchase any HK gun. In fact an HK factory rep. was at the armoy when I was ranting and raving about my gun. He said, that if the gun will shoot a pencil out of the barrel when the trigger is pulled, the gun will shoot. He didnt have an answer why my pencil shooting USP 40 would have so many failure to fires.

Everyones mileage varies I guess.

Cheers

GtoRA, never found how it shot after you sent it back to the factory.

After I got it back, it shot pretty good as long as I used Wilson combat mags.

The ones that came with it sucked and only held 6 rounds anyway.

Still an ocasional case where the slide does not go all the way into batery, but they are pretty rare and I have not put that many rounds through it, (since it is in another state right now.).

Since pictures are being posted I thought I would post a picture of the Sig I got from Intersate Arms. The holster wear isnt showing up in the picture, but other than that, it's a Sig P226.
