I am building a HOTAS for left handers out of CH FighterStick and Pro Throttle. I'm showing pictures of the progress. Check it out if interested:

um. couldnt you just buy a stick that converts to leftie? i have one.
-
What stick do you use Smidsy?
I'm lefty and have been using a righty stick for years
Never use the buttons at the base, and the throttle is in the center bottom of the stick so it is available, but have been thinking seriously about making the plunge into gettin a left handed setup, rudders and all..
So I am interested in this little project going on, my only concern would be if it broke later, what recourse for repairs and / or replacements?

Actually, CH would have no problem repairing one of these. The only mod is the handle itself which is nothing for them to deal with. They are fully aware of what I'm doing and have given me their support. Of course this mod (like any other mod) voids the warranty but CH stuff never breaks anyway so the risk is moot.

The Saitek EVO converts to Lefty, they designed it that way. The buttons too.

thats the one i use too. everything is adjustable on that thing, even the HAT! it is an exelent stick, reliable and durable and looks freaking sweet!!
-
I'm a lefty and use 2x Saitek Evo's, the right one is programed for throttle, flaps, some views, gear etc. Works a treat.

If you are a left hander, I'd appreciate your taking a little poll I put together. You can find it here:

I'm a lefty and fly with a full CH Products HOTAS.
Like guitars I've learned to adapt and play righthanded.
If a left handed flight stick came out now I dont think I'd even be able to use it.
On a side note , finally a Lefty friendly FPS gaming pad finally hit the market.... no more arrow keys and limited keys.

Lefty here
I've always used the stick in my right hand. Why not learn to use the stick the way it was designed?

SINISTER DEVILS!!!!!!!:p :D

I doubt that the rudder pedals are still righties. I bet he's just got his socks on the wrong feet.

Looks great, Homeboy!
I wonder, could I trouble you for a picture of the buttons and/or board in the head of the joystick. This is of interst to me because i'd like to rearrange the hat and button layout of my CH stick..
-
Just fly bombers. They are flown with the left hand.
-
do like real fighter pilots do. Learn to fly right handed.

Heheh...that's what I had to do when I started to work at CH and switched to an all CH HOTAS system.
ack-ack

Lefty here too, fly righty with saitek x45. Never been too much of a problem flying righty (though it would be better if I could blame my poor skills at AH on not having a left handed stick). :D
I guess since I have always used the mouse with the right hand, it has been easier to adjust using the stick as well.

I just got my CH combatstick and pro throttle back from HomeBoy who converted them to LeftyHOTAS (http://www.ch-hangar.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3313). Here's my mini-review:
[list=1]
- Flying with the stick in the left hand makes this totally worth it. I tried adjusting to the right hand method but it wasn't happening for me. This is the way it should be. :)
- This is a permanent conversion. There's no going back to the right handed handles, since the right handed grips are surgically altered into left handed handles. These are not completely new fabricated handles. The hardware feels just as sturdy as before however and feels great.
- The controllers are just as accurate as before and no new software is needed.
- I have to try hard to find faults here. If there's one, it would be that if you look closely there's a few light "scars" visible from the modification. It's more of a hand-crafted look than a factory finish. I must stress however this does not lessen my satisfaction in the end result at all. They look fine at arms length and I didn't buy them to look at them. ;)

So I'm totally pleased with the result. Now where did I park my P-47?

Ned Flanders would be proud!

I'm working on a project too... starting this weekend, I'll be gutting a Suncom dual throttle and setting it up with CH guts including a USB set up.
As soon as I can get a yoke, I'll have the most realistic P38 controls available. :D
