Title: How sickening...
Post by: Wobble on October 17, 2001, 10:30:00 PM
Oklahoma School officials remove "God Bless America" signs
from schools in fear that someone might be offended.

in Long Island, New York, orders flags removed from the
newsroom and red, white, and blue ribbons removed from the lapels of
reporters. Why? Management did not want to appear biased and felt that
our
nations flag might give the appearance that "they lean one way or
another".

Berkeley, California bans U.S. Flags from being displayed on city fire
trucks because they didn't want to offend anyone in the community.

In an "act of tolerance" the head of the public library at Florida Gulf
Coast University ordered all "Proud to be an American" signs removed so
as to not offend international students.

these days it seems that burining the flag is more socially accpetable than displaying it.

what a crock of S*#T

I once pulled duty, guarding a body police detail, while they cleaned up one of our signal sites, that had been overrun the night before.  It is all to easy for me to imagine what those poor bastards cleaning up the WTC mess are going through.  If it was up to me we would put those Berkeley clowns to work at that.

The local news station here on Long Island had, and I mean HAD a news director that had in place long prior to the attacks prohibitions on any displays of favoritisim on the set or on the reporters on camera.

He attempted displinary action aginst two reporters that in defiance of the company policy wore lapel flags on the 12th.

Public outcry was immediate and voiciferous. I believe that on the 13th the newsdirector was setting type in tierra del fuego.

I'm beginning to like New York.  :D

Wobble, same thing in Sweden, but worse, and it has been like this for many many years. We are so afraid that people might think we are racist that we're hardly alowed to have a Swedish flag up during normal days without being considered recists. If we walk around with a shirt where it says "I Love Sweden" or with a Swedish flag or the Swedish colors on, we're imediatly called racists.

It sucks.

Here in Virginia its not a problem. It would be rather amusing to have those same people saying some of the things you guys have mentioned here. Odds are it would get a reply like this.... "get a rope"  :)

Hell... we have flags EVERYWHERE. A building here has lights lit up in red white and blue.

Interesting point:

The weekend of Sept. 23, 2001 my family and I drove to Maryland to visit family.
The area is 40 miles south of D.C.

I was surprised and rather amazed to see a "LACK" of flags.
In our current home state  of Michigan (Midwest American Hearland) the flag is displayed in 9/10 of every vehicle on the road, and a good 1/2 of all the homes/businesses.

As we entered the Beltway area of D.C. the sun was just begining to rise.  Looking at the cars around us, it became quickly apparent that our Midwest Patriotism was not present on these roadways.
During the next 2 days I got a good look at thousands of cars.  We went to the County Fair where there were Firemen taking donations and giving out flag posters.  Thousands of these posters!  But did I see any displayed proudly in cars?  NO.

The area is made up of mainly U.S. Navy and supporting business personell. I would guess the population to be near 300,000.

As we traveled home, through Penn. Ohio, it became clear that the area around D.C. is shadowed by this "Lack of Display" concerning patriotism.

Yesterday on the local news, they spoke of "Security" when traveling out of the U.S.
They advised travelers to remove any U.S. unique items; flags, Red-White-Blue articles of clothing, Baseball style caps, etc.
An interview with a Psychologist provided further advise to "...keep the patriotism in your heart."

How can we spread the focus of patriotism to those who are so chicken hearted that they take U.S. Symbols off our public buildings in major places of international view?

Perhaps we need to sponsor a "Flag March" at those facilities that are now taking down our symbols of freedom.

I find this to be very confusing. There are people who think that displaying the national symbol on vehicles, buildings and (appropriately) on clothing inside of the United States is OFFENSIVE?!??!??!?!

I say to those people, LEAVE!!!! Go somewhere you will not be offended then. This IS the United States and we as citizens should not give a rats bellybutton about you being offended by OUR[/B} flag in OUR country. If we cannot display our national emblem in OUR country then we have already lost our identity and country to those who feel they have the right to dictate how we will live in OUR nation.

Please point out to me where you have the right to demand that we do nothing that might offend you? I find the denial of the display of our flag by our citizens to be EXTREMELY offensive. I will excercise MY First Ammendment rights under the Constitution to display my countries emblem. If that is a problem for you, too fediddleing bad! Like the joke goes: I can only please one person a day. Today isn't your day. Tomorrow probably won't be your day either.

For what it's worth, I have already done this while on duty as a Police Officer. I had a flag on my motorcycle, a flag pin on my uniform and a wrist band stating "I support our troops in Desert Storm". I was told to rermove the flags by a supervisor. I refused. The next day there were flags on ALL the motorcycles the Department had and they stayed there. Some of the older heads still in Motors continue flying the flag. We NEVER got a complaint from a civilian who claimed to be "offended".

As far as I am concerned, a demand to not fly the flag on "public vehicles, buildings or by civil employees" in this country is unacceptable.

just the opposite here in backwards Florida.
even the rednecks are replacing their rebel flags for Ole Glory. I've seen as many as 6 3'x 5' flags on one pickup truck. In my neighborhood bout 75% of us display the flag from the small stick version on the mailbox to the 3'x 5' ones from the porches. Every newspaper dispenser has the flag on the front. Most businesses are flying them too.

we may not know how to vote but we sure are patriotic  :)

Things are a little different here in Texas.  I rode by a ranch last weekend. They had a flag pole  out in front. Old glory was at the top.  The flag of the confederacy was second down.  Then the state flag of Texas.  Our rednecks can outredneck your rednecks :)

In a "Global Environment"...  nationalism, regardless of country, is frowned upon.

See what the Dems have done to this country in the last 40 years?  :D (Just kidding!...sort of...)

I wear a flag pin on my camoflage jacket to school. I wore a flag pin on my letter jacket. There's a flag on my car. There's also a flag on my trumpet case. The school "officials" have told me to remove them several times, and one even tried to take my camo jacket. It makes me sick. I have not removed the flags, nor will I. <sigh> Some people are too sensative these days....

Counter culture movement..

Proposal.. we get 'In Allah We Trust' bumper stickers with REALLY good glue backings.. big ones... with pics of that fat palestinian yodeling squeak on 'em and go around stickin 'em on EVERY car that does NOT already have at least ONE AMERICAN flag on it.

If we're feeling really ugly, we get 'Taliban Hideout' sitckers and slap 'em on the garbage cans and mailboxes of those homes that do not have Old Glory displayed.

Campus protesters ignite U.S. flags

Friday, October 19, 2001
By PATRICK JOHNSON

AMHERST   —   Amherst College students were stunned moments after a pro-America rally involving more than 100 people ended yesterday when several protesters emerged from the crowd to set fire to a U.S. flag.

As the sounds of "God Bless America" continued through the public address system in front of the Keefe Campus Center, as many as 10 demonstrators doused two flags with lighter fluid and set them on fire.

Five members of the group then spread a larger flag on the ground and stood on it while chanting "This flag doesn't represent me; this flag doesn't represent us."

The crowd of more than 100 people, mostly Amherst College students who moments before rallied around the flag, stood in stunned silence as the same flag was desecrated.

"This is really upsetting to me," said Christopher Palacios, a sophomore from Miami.

Palacios, who said his parents fled Cuba in the 1960s to escape Fidel Castro, said, "It makes me sick when American kids say the American flag scares them."

The pro-America rally yesterday was organized by a new student group called Amherst Assembly for Patriotism.

The group formed in response to peace rallies at each of the Five Colleges in recent weeks as well as the controversial decision by the town of Amherst to limit flag displays downtown.

"Amherst is 25 square miles surrounded by reality," said Theodore Hertzberg, a sophomore from Long Island. "I'm relieved the rest of the country does not feel the same way."

The crowd had just finished a group recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance and was beginning to disperse when as many as 10 protesters came forward.

Most of those protesting the flag declined to be interviewed.

One who did, 19-year-old Dan Griffin of Minneapolis, Minn., said the protest sought to show that the United States is responsible for much of the pain and suffering in the world.

The United States has helped continue a spree of genocide that dates back to Columbus in 1492, he said.

"How people take it is how they take it," he said.

Griffin identified himself as a student but declined to say at which college. He said the others are from different area colleges but would not say which.

Hampshire College officials confirmed a student named Dan Griffin is registered.

The University of Massachusetts records show a Daniel Griffin was enrolled but he withdrew at the start of the semester.

Michael Flood, co-founder of the Amherst Assembly for Patriotism, said he found the actions of the protesters to be inappropriate, especially since he suspects none of them are from Amherst College.

"I believe they have a right to burn the flag, but this is inappropriate," he said.

Sophomore Nick Echelbarger from Seattle said the burning was free speech of the lowest form.

"It doesn't make a point. It's just poor taste," he said.

What in the world does a 19 year old know about anything?!?

Sounds like little Danny is in need of attention - badly.
Like a burning flag crammed up his arse ...

I for one need to speak up here. If you cannot tell buy my handle, i am not of the "holy faith" in any way.

Most certainly the opposite.

I do not mind in any way to see phrases like "God bless america" at all. I understand that it is a figure of speach, the term "god" is a disctriptive word it in no way is one "thing". It simply is ones dieity and nothing more. but being in a prodomitly christian society they have made the term become associated with the holy god. So people dont look at it litteraly and just make assumptions.

Now i could understand if someone was offended buy "Christ bless america" (example) because not everyone believes in such things and would not appreitcate having someones beliefs pushed apon them. (or so they would feal it was pushed on them)

I my self wouldnt care to even see the second phrase because i am comfortable with who i am and my beliefs and dont feal threatened buy someone portraying theres.

Here in this great country it does discust me to see such things happen because this is the total opposite of what we built it on, this is not unifying people of different faiths and nationalities, this is supressing them, and that is not what the USA is about.

About the south..
Theres a differnt law in the south, its called the community, this kinda toejam wouldnt hold up to a truck(s) load of rednecks, they would most certainly get there way  :)

People if they tell you to take your flag down, dont. If they tell you to take off your star spangeled hat, do not. If you are proud of your country you show it, other wise you are not proud in any way.

This is not a time to fight our brothers and sister, this is a time to kill terrorist amazinhunks.

Wave your flags high.
