First off this thread isnt for camaro guys only but for muscle car guys in general. Im pretty sure the mustang guys miss the camaro aswell. If the situation was the other way around i would want a mustang out, killing those ricers aint no fun. They had the challenger there and the new shelby 500 mustang there, both nice cars but that camaro stole the show in my eyes.
I went to the auto show last week and saw the new camaro concept. The pics dont do the car no justice. I like it and when i hav to retire my 1986 camaro i would love to move right into this.
http://chevyhiperformance.com/hotnews/0601ch_conceptcam/
It looks alot better in person. And it has a fantastic sound.
-
They nailed the side, really nice lines. But the grill is the most god awful POS thing I've ever seen. Its like an inbreed Fkup freak of nature cross breed ect ect between a charger and an 1982 mazda.
-
Mullet Power!
-
the only thing i would change is the mirros. I would like to c a hide away grill. My problem with the car is the price. I should be 24 grand straight out of the dealer whcih includes all the things that ur average joe performance guy needs. A v8 with(z28) 330 horse and a good 380 pounds of torque and hardcore tranny with a rear to match. There caning the monte carlo after this year so they can use the 327 out of there, all they got to do is beef it up for the camaro. I really would have liked to see a ls1 but they only sell it as a crate motor now. Plus it doesnt do the flex fuel capable and it doesnt have that fuel saving system that only uses half the engine when its cruzing. So they wont use ls1. They can have the 327 in the z28 and put a toruqed out version of the ls2 in the ss. Maybe even take a torqued out ls7(ls7 has 505 horse and 475 torque, u need more toruqe for a camaro) and out it in a ZL1 camaro( A guy can dream).
I though the same when i seen it in pics but when i was infront of the car that changed. I though it was goin to have a f117 angled look in person. But the body is curvey and musclur.

Camaro Type LT? Would you believe... I had one of those!

Yuk, I have yet to like it. It looks like those new gen cadillacs.:cry It is far from being encouraging on what the firebird could be.

I'll keep my '89 :aok

Nothin beats the classic. My boy has a first gen. BUt u cant drive a first gen everyday in the elements. Plus insurance companys will give u a classic car insurance(which limits u on the miles, plus u have to be 25 and older) or they wont want to give u insurance at all. The only reason he has his car is cause his its under his dads name.
The new mustangs are nice but the charger is ugly. Its a 4 door. All they did was change up the 300m and call it a charger. Dodge really disappointed me with that car. I was a bit harsh on the look of the car till i saw it at the show. It looks somewhat like a caddi but i rather it look like this then a dam 4 door. Up close it loses alot of that caddi look. Its has more curves. Im a hardcore camaro guy and as soon as i got there i had to fight my way up for a closer look, it was mobbed, and i stood there and took in the car. This is a winner. I have seen a whole mess of concpet done by other guys and some had too many curves to the point were the car had a female look and others just messed the camaro look all together.
Have any of u guys seen it at a show?
Gm i think has buried the firebird for good. The only way they would come out with a new firebird is to kill off the gto. Gto is a ugly car but there supposed to redo the look and build it on the same chasis that they would build the camaro. There killing the monte carlo this year so it looks like there making room for a camaro.
What egine is that lt camaro running, i hope it aint the stock engine, those late 70s engine sucks, the famouse 77 smokey and the bandit car only had 220 horse on a 400cid.
-
Anything past oh say 71 is what I consider a scumero. They would had to have given the new car a much "older" look for it to even begin to be cool.
Right now it screams wannabe.

in a perfect world we can drive them all day. But the world sucks. Gotta run what with there comin out wit now. I rather a camaro then a dam honda. ANd i rather walk then ride the honda. Paints a simple picture. PLus the gas aint gonna let u ride for longer then down the drive way, my car is prob goin to take a back seat to my bike this summer. A new one would run on that ethanol crap, its supposed to be real good, ima try to get some info on that. IM one of a hand ful of guys that r in love wit or even noe what a first gen camaro is out here in the city so i understand, but i need a street car that i can push and not worry about messin up the paint, etc.

Hey! I like my 73 with my plastic front, actually rubber.
And yes Bandit, it IS a daily driver, as it's the only car I have. Still original 145K 455, just drove 1,700 miles 2 weeks ago from Houston to Salt Lake City. (I'll post the pictures of the roadtrip later).
The paint takes a beating from the daily driving, who cares it can always be repainted. I do wax the brat at least once a week, and clean the chromes several times a week from road dust.
I do burn $10/day just driving to work and back, and I don't care.
Rock on:aok
I wished GM would bring a retro look firebird, but since they are scraping the Olden/GTO, it doesn't look good. And this new Camaro is not my thing, I'll prefer the new Challenger by far.

What's next, Vega revival?
-
Texas is somewhat easier to keep it runin everyday. In new york city its a pain in the ass. Ur lowest temp is what 55, here on a day where its 15 im not startin it up. Those open roads over there must be nice. Here the road will eat up ur suspension quick with all the dam bumps(my tax dollars at work). U really have to drive like a old lady. There not scrapin the gto, there supposed to work on the body(i hate the dam design on the thing, its like a powerful rental car). Pontiac has too many cars to make room for a trans am but u never noe. Both the camaro and trans am where built on the same chassis for years, the only thing that i miss is the 400cid pontiac but i noe that aint never comin back.
I saw the challenger at the show and theres a guy that has one around my way, they didnt even try to change anything. For a minute i though it was a foose car. And the interior is pretty cold looking. Its alrite but with that on the market wat do u do with that 300m ....oh wait sorry charger. Of course it would have lplenty of competition on the market but where would it fit in dodges roster.
My other problem wit drivein a first gen car every where is i cant do that to the car. I would drive it once a week prob wax it twice but when its rainin or snowin i cant have that thing parked in the street. ill go nuts.
ANd that gas price didnt stop raiseing yet. Here its like 3.50 and im pretty sure by summer its goin to 4 and change.
-
As was talkin cars with my boy and he told me about the lotus elise. The thing is supposed to race porches for half the price(40 45 grand). Thats a hell of a deal, also that lambo and ferrieri(i noe i didnt spell that right) are coming out with cars to compete in this 40 50 grand price bracket. I told him that the mustangs camaros as well as the vettes have to drop in price if they still want to have any type of price bracket to work in. He told me no and that the american car company r too stupid to do this and will make the camaro 40 grand. Personally i think that makeing 40 grand race cars will make everyone happy and just has to force pony cars to lower there price and give u the good ol' bang for ur buck performance that all these old timers tell me about.
What do u guys think.

If I was going for muscle and looks.. I'd pick up a 05 Saleen, or a Roush Mustang..

Uber Sexiness.

Yuk! Ain't me.:huh
-
I dig it. I think it has design cues of a '69 but doesn't hit you over the head as a "hey I'm retro look at me!" thing. If they build it, you damn skippy I'm buying one.
Also, remember it's just a concept vehicle, I am sure if GM decides to produce it it will be toned down a bunch.
-
Sort of O/T, but is it possible to build/rebuild/find a good muscle car for under 10 grand?
The more spartan the better..
-
70 1/2 SS/RS here! Yeah after 73 they start getting weird. some cool ones in the run tho. After the 3rd Gen forget about em, they look like friggin Saturns. At least the new car is a step back in the direction of Muscle and the timing couln't be more nastalgic. Just in time for the gas crunch of our gen.
BTW - Yeah they fked up the grill on the new one Fs the car.
Nice car Frenchy, not sure about the gay guy sitting on it tho LOL :D Not that there is anything wrong with that LOLH.
-
can anyone say "David Hasseloff" kit come here please.

As long as you're not looking for one of the popular models it's very doable. My '68 Cougar will be around $12k when it's done, but that's with modern suspension and a complete rework of the car from top to bottom. The Cougar shares a lot of parts with Mustangs of the same year so the supply is readily available. You can pick up a decent runner for about $2500, throw $4k worth of work into it and have a pretty sweet ride.
-
Yeah I'm not looking to win any show awards, just rip the pavement.
Thanks.
-
I've got a 68 cam, took me about 5 years to get the car in perfect condition, I haven't had in dyno'd yet ( mainly cause I baby it and don't care to race it ) but I'm guessing it's puttin out about 360-375 hp. I used to have a nice site up with pics on it, I'll see if I can get it back up and running again soon and post the link... Its metallic silver with midnight black stripes, and my personal touch I added T-tops instead of a convertable top.... Its 1 sweet car, I think I would die if anything happened to it lol. It has some original parts, but mostly everything is newer aftermarket ie. edelbrock or flowmaster, especially engine and drive components. I'm gonna go work on the site and see if I can get it back up and running, has nice pics while the car is in different stages, basically everytime I added some new parts I took pics and staged them so it shows the process of it being rebuilt from a heap of rusted junk to the sweet sweet ride it is today... I think its even prettier than a P38 , and thats saying allot by me lol

well it's a pretty lame 350, but once I got rid of the emission control plumbing and refit the engine with some hotter parts (intake manifold, exhaust, camshaft, carb...) it went from 145 to 300 HP, purrrrrrs like a kitten !!!

Damn, did Chevy make it uglier again? I don't recall it being that nasty looking before.
Yuck, it look like the Micromachines 60s sqaushed toys.
The toys were ok. The real thing is just another sign that GM is run by idiots.
-
DID ANYBODY OTHER THEN ME SEE IT IN PERSON?
What would u like to see from gm.
I like the body, only thing that can change is the mirrors and maybe the grill but the body is good. Engine wise i would put crate engine(350 ram jet 350 horse 400 lbs of torque) hook it to a t56 tranny and a solid rear end(3.73). That sounds like a fun car. The exhuast on the concept model is nasty soundin, has to be heard to be appreciated. So i would keep that. Interior wise i hav seen it, i dont noe about the seats but i cant say anythin till i sit in it. Biggest problem would be the price. I figure the thing should be 24 25 grand after all is said and done. The SS ls2 should be 29 grand.
It isnt hard to build a muscle car around a solid drive train.

It depends on where you're located. If you're in a snowy area where they salt the roads then "no". You'll have to head to the desert or the Northwest.
You can pay less than 10k for most freshly painted muscle cars with the "collectables" exceptions. You won't find any mustang s's, camaros or corvettes (<74), 70-71 Cudas, 69-70 chargers, etc... for that, but you will find most everything else in that range. To get a pretty decent car, though, you're going to have to look to the $16k price range. If you can find something rust-free and original for less than that (especially of the cars listed above)... buy it and then sell it in on the east coast.
-
So what engine option would u guys like to see?
Z28---- either a ls1 or a crate engine, 350 ram jet.
SS------ a ls2 with more torque, a good 425horse and 480lbs of torque, maybe even a factory super charged ls2, that would give the ss more then enuff power to race the gt500
I would also like to see a 4 speed tranny, i hate 6 speeds in camaros.
-
Thanks MiniD.
-
"but is it possible to build/rebuild/find a good muscle car for under 10 grand"
Depends if you have the equipment to actually do most of the work, and if you have to actually pay someone else to do any work... I did everything myeself on my camero but the paint job, took it to a buddy and had him paint it for $2200 Total spent on my car is probably in the 15K+ range.

http://www.seriouswheels.com/top-2006-Chevrolet-Camaro-Concept.htm (http://www.seriouswheels.com/top-2006-Chevrolet-Camaro-Concept.htm)
"The Camaro Concept features the latest generation of GM’s legendary small-block V-8. The 6.0-liter LS2 rated at 400 horsepower."
That would have to be the top of the line, anymore and it would be competing with the Corvette.
Probably expect something like 5.3L Small Block V8 Engine 303 HP (Currently in Impalla SS)
Then a base model 3.9L V6 240HP.
http://www.seriouswheels.com/top-2006-Dodge-Challenger-Concept.htm (http://www.seriouswheels.com/top-2006-Dodge-Challenger-Concept.htm)
I personally like the looks of the Dodge Challenger. I think its closer to production then the Camaro. Who knows what will happen with the Camaro in the next 2 years but Dodge has a history of bringing concepts to production.
-
Isn't the Impalla a front-wheel-drive car?
-
It sure is. Maybe thats why Chevy is having problems selling cars.
-
There's not a whole lot of FWD to RWD engine crossovers. I tried to look for some pics for about 10 mins, but didn't see anything on the engine being transversely mounted. If it is, it probobably won't be used on the camaro.
-
I expected a more coulourfull paintjob ,this one is to gray ...

True. But GM has a 5.3-liter, V8, 295-horsepower for most of the trucks. This is something that could be modified to be a good mid-level option for the Camaro. I was using the 5.3L V-8 as an option more then the Impalla.
-
That's a different 5.3 liter. The 5.3 liter for the impalla is new.
-
They gave both the camaro and the challenger the green lite:aok . BUt here is the fun part. There doing a new transformers movie for next year(july 04 07) And the transformer named bumnle bee is goin to be a 72 camaro that is beat up badly and rebuilt as a 2008 model. They are also doin a mustang deceptacon. I would love to see that. Funny thing is that transformers is a japanese cartoon! and now we have mustangs and camaros in it. I got that info off street fire
