Vid from his bit at the White House dinner.

I don't think he was all that funny. He had some good ones but didn't really deliver.
-
I didnt know he was that clever, going to have to start watching his show.

Colbert is sharp as a tack. Unfortunately the audience was suffering from anal retention syndrome and did'nt appreciate the humor.
An example of one of his jokes:
"I'm glad to see so many Generals and members of our military here tonight in support of the president."
(Big round of applause)
"I see you have'nt retired yet"
(crickets chirping)
And that's tonight's word.
-
It was funny at times, and painfully bad at others.
-
Link doesnt seem to work as planned

small file (http://movies.crooksandliars.com/WH-Dinner-Colbert.wmv)
big quicktime file (http://movies.crooksandliars.com/WH-Dinner-Colber.mov)
Yeah, the anal retention syndrome of the audience took all the fun out of Colbert's genius. He didn't exactly cater to his audience.

the audience didn't laugh because they were being pwnd
that was pure pwnage

That's what the corispondence dinner IS you dolt. It's where the current administration invites the press there and then makes fun of itself in a roast style.
I thought some of his stuff was funny but it just didn't have a whole lot of bite to it. The Bush impersonater was funnier.
-
Reminds me of teenagers mocking authority. Hey, i was one of 'em a hundert years ago, was funny to us then.
-
one thing thath as started to bother me about bush is how easily and well he belittles himself.

True that, I noticed that as well.
Deb,
Do a google on the presidential corispondence dinner and educate yourself. Almost anything goes there in the style of a roast.

not to be nitpicky, but the president is invited to the WHCA dinner, not the other way around.
you dolt!(http://www.galeon.com/mikeln/img/rolleyes.gif)
lol!

The term Press is usually associated with the media NOT and abreviation of President.

deb, is there any way you can tone down the animations. Im getting ready to .ignore you just to save me from the visual shock of seeing exclmation points and smiley faces 100 times larger than is necessary.
Thanks :D

I kinda dig 'em, myself. Loved the ridiculously oversided exclamation mark he used a while ago. No big deal.

The guy is good. The crowd was uptight.
I remember when he was the "Mr Goodwrench" guy.
Thought his bit at the WH was funny until he went "SNL" ( stretch a boring skit) with his "interview.
-
I watched the clip... I actually didn't like it to much.
It offended me somehow.
I'm not even Republican.... and I still thought it was ... wrong.
It showed a complete lack of respect for the President...
It just seemed way over the top.
-
Isn't that the point?
-
I suppose it must've been... but for me it didn't quite seem to hit "satire" so much as it seemed to be him insulting the President.
Didn't even really seem like he was trying to be funny (and yes, I'm familiar with a 'dry' sense of humor) so much as he was just up there ranting.

Agreed. The impersonator was by light years better
He had a couple decent moments but most of it was poorly done.
Colbert seems to do better when hes doing an interview style stuff.
When he has someone directly to interact with.
That night he was mostly stupid with a couple chuckles thrown in
-
Disagree.
It was Colbert owning the joint, as usual.
The only question in my mind is what these folks thought they were signing up for when they hired him in the first place.
Ya get what ya pay for, and Colbert delivered on time and under budget.
Damn it was teh funnay.

Untill you just made that statement.
Reguardless of what difference of opinions we may have had in the past I had always thought you were a pretty intellegent person.
You take up smoking crack or something?
He bombed.
Very few laughs even from the media types that were in attendance

Are you smoking crack? He lambasted those very same "media types" (<---lol) that you expected a hearty chuckle from, as well.

This Week in God and The Word are two of Colbert's golden bits and both of them are monologues. He does do a primo interview, tho.
The whole thing is you have to understand the selfrightious, dimwited, prima donna character he plays. That night it struck a little too close to home, even for a roast. Kuddos to the president for taking the shellacking, as is traditional, and not turning the event into milktoast.

That's probably what's gettin' people's backs up here. These jokes are practically routine now, and the only difference last Saturday was that dear leader finally had to sit through it in person.
I get a kick out of the fact that all of prezznit's speaking engagements are highly screened and choreographed events.... and Colbert's schtick was the first time that the Decider had to sit there and lump it. It multiplied the comedy factor.

Are you people actually debating what is funny and what isn't funny? WTF?

You try'n to be funny or somethin?
-
Anyone remember Conan Obrien's schtick a few years ago? It was more embarrasing than funny, too.
-
Colbert was playing the role he invented for the Colbert Report... It was excellent.
The dude is fearless.
-
Report is the best show on TV right now.
