Does that need to be converted to a bitmap file?

Not sure, but in game I can see the color background.  Need to get rid of it :)

gunsights must be 8 bit (256 color) BMP's for use in game.

better way of doing the sights is do do it on a black background, and use a colour like bright yellow (trust me, looks white against ground and dark yellow against sky) and then use a guassian blur to make it look like a real reflector gunsight:aok

here try this, it's all done, you just need to put it in your sights folder and apply it to the planes you want:aok

That particular sight is a BMP, and it's been converted into 8 Bit 256 Color..  But in the game you cannot see any of the black dots.  There is practically no sight.

You might try mine.  it's an alpha dot, so you can see through it pretty ezy.

(told ya' it'd get handled quick)

(edit: I do like poofaces w/ the dot's on the edge.  I might try that)

thanks, i kinda learned how to make them from waffle. when you do colour on black, and blur it, it uses the additive alpha, so you can see the sight against any background, and it looks like a real reflector dight. waffle's gunsights are still better, he spent lots of time making them look really real, but if you want something less historical, they arent hard to make :)

another tip for those sights is to raise your head position so that the sight is near the top of the glass, makes it easy to make big deflection shots :)

i actually made a whole load a while back that calculated convergence and drop for you, using set bars on the sight. and i also did another one as a jabo sight, which if you used right was 100% accurate :D

i could put them up if you'd like;)

Thanks Lute, that one is goin on the spit :)

The first one I posted was basically the one I used for Jabo, almost 100% accuracy in the P-51, was given to me awhile ago..

But if you want to post some more, I'd gladly take em off your hands! ;)

Pooface I'd love to see those sights you mentioned, I use a variety of others but always open to trying something new!

ok, here are the other two. i made these quite a while ago, so i could probably do better now. maybe this weekend i'll have some fun and make a proper gunsight package :)

anyways, jabo:

dive at roughly 70 degrees

the notches on the vert bar show speeds and release points, starting from 250 mph at the bottom and going up in 50's, tested, 100% accurate, took me some time to get right :)

distance:

the notches on the vert bar show shot groupings for most planes with wing mounted guns. i think the first notch down from the dot shows drop and grouping of rounds at 600 yrds. second is 800, 3rd 1000 and 4th 1200.

the length of the bars shows the grouping size at that range :)

i think it was made when i was using a convergece of 350, so it may vary for people, but, you should be able to work out where your bullets go with the target command and remember where they hit in relation to the sight :)

hope you like :)

like i said, i made em a while ago, they arent as good as they could be. i might update them some time, maybe this weekend :)

im thinking about doing a gunsight package :)

I use a tiny white dot and very transparant.
