This looks like it would be alot of fun. I have penciled it into my diary. ;)
-
is this a walkon event?
-
All these missions in the AvA are "open to the public" 68DevilM. Quite often we get involved as squads, but anyone is welcome and all are invited :)
Speaking of which, who else is gonna be flying interception? G6 will be out (YAY!!!!), so we can run some sweet interference on the Dicke Autos. I'm gonna try and put up an actual "mission" with Grupul 7 on intercept, but I'm gonna be adding a lot more slots than we'll have pilots, so anyone who wants to fly with us is invited!
-
Thanks White, sounds good! Im hoping the 4thFG guys get involved over the next couple of weeks.
-
Hopefully all 19 of III./JG52 will show up as well.
-
A few 4thFG Eagles should be making it.
-
Great Booz!

Filth..do you set up the mission for both the Allied and Axis? Is it a formal "Mission" that we will be able to se under "Missions" on the clipboard when we enter the arena?
One of my squaddies and I plan on flying in this tonight and we want to fly Axis...190A5s. I assume that is no problem?
What are the numbers like generally for these things?
-
looks like the axis have some numbers, you can count me in for D11 escort duty for sure..... err, what time in GMT is 9et?
-
Im not sure how to do the time conversion Bat. I think u can find it online tho. We will need people willing to take either side if one side is heavy tho. White13 will be setting up the axis mission, I will setup allied mission.
-
what time is it for you now?
im posting this at 4:16 gmt
oh and..

On the assumption that England is five hours ahead of the east coast, the mission should be starting at about 2 a.m. your time, Batfink.

These missions in the AvA (both Axis and Allies) are just great. nothing like the MA where you can have a 190 A v a 190 D or spit V spit etc.
It's great when you are at alt and you see the LW in 109s and 190s bearing on you, very realistic, when you are engaged and the fighters take of to rearm or land due to damge, you think you have been dogging, ducking and turning for ages, when in actual effect, it's only been a few minutes, I'm sure a lot of other guys from both sides would agree with this.

Is it possible to announce and post these missions to the folks at MA??

Hey white
Is the G6 better than the G2? I often read on the bbs about the G2 and how good a crate it is, I'm curious to know more about the 6 and knowing you boys in Grupul 7 love to fly 109s I could think of no better folks to ask !
:aok

ty Oldman.
i like the G6 best of all 109s

Well,
Some of the 78th guys will be there. Some of us are going over to the darkside though (Like me). Been spending alot of time in that 190 jammy.

I posted in the General Forum about this and other missions we've done. As have other players Ive seen. I also announce it in the MA in the morning and evening. We've been doing this since this BoB rolling planeset started. You can see the other missions here on this forum. The first few were as axis. Now we are the Mighty 8th!
Word of mouth works great. Again..both sides are fully aware of the setup, the mission, the target. The idea is to intercept from mid channel all the way to target, and bacl out. You can reup. That is why I like to see a few more escorts than interceptors at the start, because the interceptors usually get 2 cracks at us.
After the main mission we usually do another quickie, or do a fighter sweep.
-
As far as Buff-Busting and the like goes, the G6 is the better IMO, but the G2 is a better A2A dogfighter. Lighter and faster, turns better. G6 has great cowl guns though, so if you are the type to hold your fire and go for the kill shot, G6 is where its at.
If you stick to BnZ and vertical fights, both are about equally good for low-level fights.
I have a mission written up with 24 slots, but anyone is welcome to join in. Mix of 190A, 109G2 and 109G6. Wish we had the110G too. I'm having Mic problems though, might have to hand over tactical control to someone who can talk.
My plan seems a bit to elaborate to me looking back on it, but hopefully we can get at least half of it to work. Should be fun anyway :)
-
Axis intercept will be lifting approximately 9:15-9:20 eastern.
-
Great job by the escorts, most of the bombers got through.
Personally I only got 2 B-17s and an assist over 3 sorties (1 Bail safely, 1 damaged landing, 1 safe landing). I screwed up my initial headon run and fencer picked me off on climbout. Second sortie a B-17 knocked out my engine after I got one of his drones (I was diving out with bombs falling all around me, lookied like you clobbered the city pretty well from where I was :) ), by the third there were 4 or 5 of us attacking the last intact flight of buffs (FiltH) and I got one of them and an assist.
Great mission filth, and to the 4th and all the escorts, great job! :aok
-
City received light damage for the loss of all bombers. The escort performed beautifully allowing us to target with few losses. We lost alot of buffs enroute to disco however.
Mission:Failure
B17s will stand down the next mission in order to replenish planes and crews.
Although the city was hit, Luftwaffe HQ was unscathed. That coupled with the heavy losses, resulted in a failure.
Thanks to all who attended. Look for another mission soon.

LOL.......Sorry i missed our date.........had to keep the sheep happy....ha!

I was surprised at the light damage, several of you must have been off on calibration. Made a test run last night with your loadout and took down 23% in one pass. I figured with the numbers I saw over the target that you guys would have annihilated it.
Of course nobody came after me, and it can be a lot harder to calibrate properly with a Gruppe or two shooting at you. Plus you guys seemed to be a much looser formation than usual, I was really surprised at that.
Kind of shows you in a small way how the B-17 crews IRL could do so well in peacetime training ("dropping a bomb in a pickle barrel from 20,000 feet") and then completely miss a target when flying over Germany.
The harder-mode calibration in the AvA definitely makes a difference in accuracy over the easy mode used in the MA.

Yeah, not a lot of hits...

Unfortunately there was basically little to no co-ordination on the part of the Axis, mostly due to vox issues.
For some reason some of the mission could hear my squaddie and I, but we couldn't hear them. Then my squaddie and I got separated after upping early (not sure how or why that happened) so I joined up with Batfink and his wingman.
First pass on the bombers...my engine got hit.
Re-upped...second pass on the bombers I was shot down.
:(
It seemed that the bombers didn't have dedicated gunners. Despite the fact that they made it to target they hardly did any damage. This was likey due to the fact that they were being harassed by our fighters the whole way in. It is pretty tough to gun and calibrate at the same time as well as trying keep the bombers at the same speed and alt.
I think the bombers did extremely well as a result.
-
First off let me say, our escort did everything they could to get us there. We could ask for no better.
1. Only 7 bomber pilots joined the mission.
2. I'd only flown with a couple of them before.
3. Those who were communicating through vox or even text were all disco'd before we got feet wet.
4. The fighters did harrass us, and a couple of us had gunners so we were able to maintain somewhat of a formation. Those without seemed to veer off course due to rudder while gunning problems.
5. My biggest problem was the calibration. Lately I cannot calibrate at all. It must be my stick. I used to be able to do it with no more difficulty than the MA. Now it shows me going backwards, or sets my speed at 19 mph, or 1100 mph like last night. I just couldnt do it. Not one of my bombs hit the target. Some guys did hit though.
6. Having our escort fight alot of the enemy twice is alot to handle. Im thinking next time since the axis can reup and even at 20k easily re-engage the bombers, we should try for a larger escort force. At the heat of battle last night there were 26 allied and 28 axis flying. With about 5 of us at that time in bombers, the escort was not only outnumbered, but faced re-ups. Thats how good the 4th FG guys and compamy did, to allow us to even get to target.
7. Most of all, we need a larger bombing force. Especially for deep runs into enemy airspace.
-
IMO opinion I think axis were outnumbered at the beggining of the mission.... My job was to lead the intercept escort.... we were in G2's and we only had 3 planes... Since we were the first to see ENM's we were outnumbered pretty bad.... It was like 8 jugs to 3 G2's..and one of my G2's got dicoed so it was really 8 on 2... but anyway we managed to weave our way around P'47's raining lead upon us and I managed to get two but the third one managed to tear me a new one jus as i had finished shooting another one down.....
By the way Im not looking foward to future intercept missions if there are going to be Hordes of typhy tikes as the typhy was just enabled last night...

wasnt bad.....got me 5 kills on 2 sorties, both landed......:aok

That's because you used Platano as a human shield . . .
j/k :lol
I got on late -- sorry I missed most of the action. I managed to catch up to an egressing secondary raid of B-26s as they approached the English coast (perhaps those you referred to as disco'd earlier). But, I was alone, by that time almost out of fuel (having climbed to meet the last disintegrating B-17 before hand), and they were on the deck. So, I just came almost straight in as there was no time to set up a proper attack. I reached the rear box, let go of litterally ALL my ammo . . . and got a "You have been killed - Jester shot you down" as a result.
Jester did admit on 200 that the fire on his lead bomber was starting to get overly warm.:)

Filth; Great Mission; even with as few as were available!
I got 13 buildings with 2 Bombers; lost 1 on the way in and the other 2 on the way out.
Count me in on the next one if I can make it.
