Title: Hormel SPAM Verses a 22 Cal. Hollow Point
Post by: eskimo2 on May 05, 2006, 06:10:31 AM
This is what happens to a can of SPAM when it is hit by a 22 caliber hollow point bullet.  This series was taken in the fall of 1990 for my advanced photography class.  These pictures were taken in absolute darkness with the camera's shutter forced open.  After the bullet passed through the can it impacted two sheets of aluminum foil, creating an electrical connection which set off a camera flash that exposed the film for 1/30,000 of a second.  Each picture is of a different can of SPAM.  The last picture appears to be a double exposure; sometimes the aluminum foil would rebound and set off the flash more than once.

I think the 44 would vaporize the can and the spam, but it would be cool to see

Alaska used to be the number one consumer of SPAM until you "Plate Lunchers" discovered it.

Cool pics Eskimo.  How did you set it up so muzzle flash didn't interfere with the exposure?  Seems kinda dangerous firing in a completely dark room, but am curious how you did it, if you don't mind sharing your secrets on this.

Bullet shown in slow motion slicing through various objects.

Oh yeah, I like cutting off 1/4 inch slices of spam and fry it til it's toasted on both sides, slap that sucka on some toasted bread and down the hatch!

One man's vile is another man's delicious.

Spam...  SHOULD be vile.  By every conventional measure, it should be a terrible tasting mechanized abortion of a food product.

...but somehow, it isn't.  It tastes ok.  It's very, very salty.  Eaten alone in any quantity, it would probably sour my stomach.  But as an ingredient, or as part of something else, it's not bad.

Try it out sometime.  Maybe you don't like it, and that's fine, but give yourself a chance to find out for yourself!  :D

how can you not like bullets hitting stuff?

The vid was cool but the sound was weird... sounded like they were speaking jibberish.
