Title: Step up to the plate.....
Post by: Waffle on May 06, 2006, 02:58:38 AM
Was thinking about how the community has been growing by leaps and bounds lately. (at least it seems by all the new names)

Anyway, I'm thinking about putting some time in the TA, just so some of the new guys/girls can have another poor soul helping them along their way.

I know there are plenty others here that have been around and could probably be of use in the TA. Not as a "trainer" officially, but as someone who can take an hour or so out of their weekly gameplay to help answer questions about the game, how to take-off,  how to raise your landing gear, ect.....and maybe help some of the trainers out, if they're flooded with Q's.

So next time you decide to log off cause you've been ho'd by me in an il2 :D -  Take a few minutes off and ask if anyone's new and would like some help, or just goto the TA and see if anyone needs help.

You could be gaining a new pal or squaddie, or just someone else that really hates the way Waffle ho's in the il2. :)

Remember - you guys are what makes the community. The old dogs here were once young pups. And we all know you can't teach an old dog new tricks (but you can use shock collars) . So teach em right, teach em young.....

Yes. Im all for that. The more "vets" some to the TA, the more the "old ways" get passed on to the next generation.

I know theres 10 Teens there, with an attention span of a sandwich toast asking why their landing gear wont come down....... but the 11th one asking for help and listening, trying to get better - he makes it worth.

I agree it would be good to teach some of the new people, but these people get trained in the la7 and spit 16 sometimes and all you need is to have a decent stick in a la7 or spit 16 and just gets pretty boring to fight them.  If going train them should have them trained in a plane thats a little bit challanging to fly.

Well there has been a huge influx of new people over the spring break.

We are just at the point of getting rid of many of the 2 weekers. The ones that are left would certainly appreciate any help, tips, etc.

Most of the trainers are still reeling from dealing with so many 8 - 14 yr olds in such a short period of time. So now would be a really GOOD time to lend a hand if your so inspired.

& Thanks all.

It's tough to get diamonds from charcoal but I'll keep trying.

If you need help teaching them how to HO, I'm your guy. Anything beyond "gear up? okay, now aim for the head!" is going to be beyond my skillset.

Hey wafffle good point,
I don't mind typing to someone to help them get voice going if they are new or having problems. But I give up when people want me to type out solutions on flying procedures. Its just to much of a pain for me to call fun.
Anyway whats the official Rule on this? I wouldn't mind coming to the training arena and doing some one on one " here's how it works style" training,,,IF i wasn't expected to type everything out.
It blows my mind how many new players jump straight into the ma and expect everything to be easy and learn it all on the way while flying toward an enemy base to get there first kill.ROTFLMAO
I have drug a few over to the training arena in the past to help them, I will try to be off more help.
Good Post.

You could show the newbies which direction not to take off in, in buffs.

I'll be there when I can. I've been meaning to get back into the TA for some time.

Myself and any of the LTAR squad members would be more than happy to help where we can.

We usually try to always help the new guys entering the game.

I often helped out in the TA when I was disgusted with gameplay in the MA. It was my way of trying to help change the future, I did in fact make several new friends.:aok

Blooz, Schatzi, Infensus, Grubzilla, saskid, pooface, (list goes on & on) you guys are in there regularly. And probably seldom even get a thank you.

To all the TA "Vets" who come fly, help a bit, answer questions when no trainers are around. One very sincere "Thank YOU" from at least this trainer.

Yes I think I see light peeking through the clouds.

I will be happy to teach people my bad habits!

When I am done, I hope they fly for Bish or Knits.   :)

Another good thing that has recently developed is that more and more of the more skilled players are using the TA for dueling and 1v1 practice (because of the DA having killshooter on). While in the TA, these gentlemen have been taking time to teach newer players the finer points of ACM. That's a big plus. Infensus and Creton have been especially helpful in this regard. Indeed, Infensus is in the TA as often as most Trainers, at least during the hours I'm on.

Something else I've noticed is that when a noob asks a question, often before I can type an answer, a nearby veteran is on VOX helping the noob solve his problem.

We "official" Trainers are very grateful for the time offered by those who come and help. While they lack the words "Aces High Trainer Corps" next to their names, They have earned our respect for their selfless contribution of time and effort. We couldn't do this job without their help.

My regards,

Widewing

I think thats the point....  Maybe if you took some time with em and taught them the way of the 38, that would be a start.

You guys are awesome in that bird and I know myself its a fun bird to fly but its also a pain in the butt to learn all its nuances....

thats just my .02

Great Idea, I always try to help as much as I can.  Many questions were answered for me when I was new by Ghosth and others as well as countless hours with INYO and Infensus <> Shining examples of how the game is played not only in the flying but how to behave in the game. These individuals never lost their tempers were always courteous and respectful, which made it an honest pleasure to fly with them.  I guess I wanted to say please keep in mind when training newer people, remind them that this is a community where fowl language and inappropriate behavior is looked down upon. That having the respect of your follow pilots is the goal. It doesn’t need to be kumbaya time but it shouldn’t be a cesspool either.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but since the DA is dead, the TA is now all that's left to comfortably hobnob with other vets and assist newbs as we used to do in the DA.  Not as well, maybe, or not with as much enjoyment.  Its taken me awhile, but I'm visiting the TA a bit more often myself and looking to help a few people out, but I don't stay anywhere near as long as I would the DA.
So this is about the only positive windfall from the crippling of the DA.  Funny, vets get punished by having the DA screwed up, but reciprocate by helping out in the TA.  Maybe we weren't all such baddies when we were in the DA?
