Title: We've got the Jeep, now can we have a truck?
Post by: Hazard69 on May 08, 2006, 10:01:27 AM
Just asking....cause, well the Jeep seems to only be good at 2 things:

Resupplying vehilces (cause it carries a full TWO vehicle supply loads).
Upping at a base and running full steam to the town with the 50cals firing at the troops a goonie just dropped (M16 seems a bit slow).

So, could we have a truck that was quite fast (maybe as fast as a M3) which doesnt have much more strength than a Jeep (easily despatched with 50cals or a 20mm) and can haul maybe 15 troops or 6 vehicle supplies or 2 airfield supplies? Dont even need to arm it or anything...............

we already have them driving along the roads in AH all over the place re-supplying bases.

so you want something that is the same speed and roughly the same capacity as the current troop carrier, but without any armor? at what point in the thought process did this seem like a good idea?

Trucks were more subject to differences in terrain than half tracks. They'd run a lot faster on roads, but a lot slower cross-country (maybe even stop when it gets real mushy). Currently all tracked vehicles run at full road speed whereever they are - except when driving on a gradient.

To make trucks worth while you'd need to slow all GVs down by varying amounts depending on terrain - but keep the speed high on roads. That means a lot of modelling, changing of spawn points (approx. 5 minutes from enemy bases) etc.

It would make driving along roads a bit more of a challenge - but you'd also need more roads!

I would love to have more realistic vehicle speeds and terrain, but to be fair with HTC it's simply far too much work to achieve.
