Please celebrate properly.
-
My first concert was on May 8th 1979. I was all of Fifteen and my dad let me take the car, and a carload full of school friends for the drive to Seattle to see Yes, in the round.
Was a truly magical experience and one I will never forget!
So Yes, I will celebrate and thanks for reminding me :)

you are in the class, so:
some fraction of the class was not ignorant of the significance of the day.
some fraction of the class need to brush up on the significance of percentages in statistics.
there are at least two arrogant people in the class.

Russia suffer a causalty count in WWII of 27 million. ( 9 million dead, 18 million wounded)
The United States.. 600 thousand. (300,000 dead, 300,00 wounded).
We often here consider ourselves to be the 'winners'.. we paid the lowest price, fought the shortest time, reaped the largest benefit in the shift in power, post war.. and ultimately out-attritted the Soviets in the Cold War.
The Soviets spilled an astonishing amount of blood to defeat the Nazis... the brunt of the price paid for Europes eventual freedom was in no small part paid by the people of the Soviet Union. Men, women, children that fought and died by the millions not for communisim.. but for Mother Russia.
To sneer at the sacrafice of the Russian People in their 'Great War' is an insult that is neither deserved nor appropriate.. on any level.
To the men and women who fought the Nazi's in Europe. To those who sacraficed all... my humble thanks.

Golden words,i could not have said any better.

The men and women who served and paid with their lives to fight for Russia deserve the highest respect. Who wouldn't fight for their country? They fought a brutal, hellish war under extreme conditions and prevailed.
The problem I have with the Russia in WWII is Stalin. Russia made a deal with the Nazzis and probably would have stood by and happily let Britain and her allies get steam-rolled by Germany.
It was only after they got back-stabbed by Germany that they HAD to fight the Nazis. They didn't fight the Nazis for nobel reasons, unlike Britain. Russia seemed to have been in it for themselves from the begining, then after it ended.
People of Russia, Glod bless you. Stalin, hope you're enjoying hell. Just an eternity to go.
