Seems like there are a lot of pedants on the board.  That's totally cool even though there are a lot of pissing matches, but where the hell do you guys get your information?

I imagine most of the folks that post here have similar interests in WW2 aviation that go back before computer flight sims.  I know it's been an interest of mine since I read 'Great American Fighter Pilots of WW2" in 2nd grade and that was almost 40 years ago.

The book collection started to grow to fuel the interest and that lead to talking to other folks etc. I took it further in tracking down WW2 aircrew, starting with all the Spit XII pilots I could find in the 1980's and then researching lost USAAF bomber crews.  Once you take the plunge into that world, you'll find it's really not that big a circle of people and when you get in the loop a bit, you really have it made.   Next thing you know you've learned something or at least know where to look or who to ask.  I've found that group of people to on the whole be very generous and quick to share the wealth.

I know the bookshelves in my computer room are full and continue to grow as I learn more.  It's a disease really :)

If you get infected, there is hardly a cure. :)

That's the truth and then some.  http://www.abebooks.com is a goldmine and a danger for me.

I made myself a goal to collect all the P38 squadron/group histories I could find.    More and more turn up and then it's the rare expensive ones.  There's one privately printed history I've managed NOT to buy as it's in the $500 range, but I've broken down on a couple of $100 + copies of hard to finds.

Of course then I get looking for some of the biographies of pilots that are out of print and that can get pricy......it goes on and on :)
