a few years ago i was able to see cars ect on some other sight ..that i cant find any more..
I just D/L Googel earth...and its kind of crappy detail..
but when you look at some of there presets..Grand Canyon..it looks like a real picture

You need to check google earth often, they are regularly adding high-resolution images of new areas.
I can look at my area, and the neighboring county is about 95% high-res, while mine is very low res.
I know they just in the past few weeks added high res images of several areas of Eastern Europe, especially around Romania-Bulgaria-Moldava. Much of the US is stil low-res though.

There's some very high resolution images of Las Vegas. You can see people.
-
Red Square in Moscow is pretty high resolution. Areas around my location are high resolution as well and so is a fair amount of Havana, Cuba. However its all relative on when they took the pictures with those satelittes. When Google Earth first came out they had a high res photo of my house on there with my current car. Now its a two year old photo from right after we moved into this house and you can see my company truck in the drive and the trees I cut down last summer are still there when the old picture didn't have those trees.. I think sometimes they move backwards and forwards but what do I know.
-
I know it still shows my grandmothers house, which has since been demolishad and the spot turned into a parking lot...
Kinda sucks to see the old pics.

Go here:

not all of google earth imagery is from satellite, alot is from aircraft. pretty much if you can easily see people it's probably from an aircraft. MSI (multi spectral imagery) is still kinda new and the commercial stuff aint as sweet as the real deal.

I see they have included the west coast of Denmark now. Nice chance for going hunting for Atlantic Wall bunkers. We never really bothered getting rid of them.
56°09'36" 8°07'04" has a good concentration, but if you go north from there you will find more along the entire coast.
The Jutland coast was about as well defended as Normandy on D-Day.
BTW, nice one Onctavius. Looks like dinner is camel stew tonight. :)

For my area I get better detail from
http://local.live.com/
than I get from google.
Ohhh and nothing to install either. Runs in your browser.
Was VERY disappointed in Google Earth quality.

So do I.
I can see my house that I grew up in WV,google earth can't get that close.I can see Alicia's cabin that overlooks Lake Cumberland,GE doesn't get close enough for it either.

that local live thing has pictures over 10 years old for major metropalitan areas for goodness sakes.
the building centered in the map here is part of the hospital complex i work at:
http://local.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&cp=43.040822~-88.021034&style=h&lvl=17
it was demolished over 9 years ago and since then a parking structure has been built then demolished and a new building is 1/4 built there now.
there are entire road systems not on the pictures in my hometown that are over 5 years old now.
talk about out of date garbage
-
It's up to date for Washington DC.

Beale AFB, CA has a U2 out and one actually taking off and in the air with shadow on the gound.
The AFB near Las vegas has a crap load of fighters sitting around along with a nice shot of a chopper at the end of the runway in the air with a shadow on the ground not too far away.
Most of the AFB's are great shots for this type of crowd.

Check out Duxford. :)

No it doesn't.. Just because the one thing you wanted to see is low res doesn't mean the whole thing sucks.
There are tons of places with great resolution.
But lets cut some slack here, its the whole planet they are showing you, and you expect every inch to be perfect? 10 years ago I would have been happy to see ANY useful photo of my town, now I can pan and tilt former soviet air bases at my leisure... Thats good progress.
Give 'em time, they'll get your part of the world in high res soon.

i edited some for accuracy...
...there was a thread a while back about Davis Monthan, but nobody when looking for the airfield NW of Tucson when all the old airliners are parked, it is almost as cool because amongst other things, thats where Beechcraft stuck their Starships when they bought almost all of them back.

Google Earth is terrific for trip planning. Did 1300 miles from Washington to Key West and it was like flying the route in a chopper, easy to pick out locations to stay.
Couple that with the Nuvi 350 navigator and you have a whole new way to get and keep oriented.
