I have encountered someone that is a little sensitive to chute shooting and I want to rub his hairs the wrong way for a bit. Could those who have good screenshots and/or avi's of some fun and fabulous chute shooting exploits help me out?
I want to post lots of images of people having fun shooting chutes in his private forum since he seems to think
"its indefensible to kill someone who is compeltely helpless. When he is in his plane, he has a chance. In his 'chute, he can't even run. If that is your idea of fun, well I don't even know what to say."
He can't seem to comprehend that games are meant to be fun and that sometimes behavior that would be inappropriate or even illegal in reality makes for some good laughs when you are just playing a game.
The funny part is that he has no problem bombing/strafing defenseless trucks and merchant ships, or even dropping nuclear weapons on entire bases... but shooting a virtual bailed out pilot should get me arrested for even thinking about it.
A movie I saw a long time ago had a good line for people like this...
"Lighten up, Francis!"

Haha, wish I could help out, don't have any vids or pics of that though. Some of the old timers might have some. Chute shooting is one of the last pure artforms left in AH.

:lol
I might be able to help you out in this endeavor. :t

A good read is "Chute strafing in AvA". Just do a search and you'll find it. It's been edited but you'll get the idea. I actually have the film that inspired the rant but I'm unable to post it. If you want, private me an email and I'll send it to ya.

Wow, so what you're saying is that some people still don't know that in the Main Arena you can just click tower from the chute? Some people still ride the silk all the way down after two years of AHII?
Thats pretty funny (lame)

I'll ride it long enogh to take pot shots at passing planes, then .ef to tower

The forum I used this for is private, but here is the context I used the above topic and film, thanks again:
In Aces High, chute-shooting is not only modeled, but essential to gameplay. Base take-overs are accomplished by dropping infantry out of C-47 aircraft. Defending fighters are obliged to shoot them as quickly as possible to save their bases. In addition, pilots are scored on various parameters including safe returns to home base. If a player chooses to bail out, you can lower his score by shooting his chute.
This film shows one such incident (click on the thumbnail to see the video).

In this particular case, the player that was shot down immediately went to the message boards and cussed up a storm. Of course all of the old veteran pilots laughed at him in this very entertaining thread (although the posts of the offended player were deleted since they failed to comply with message board rules):

If I remember correctly the Fat Drunk Bastards made it an art form.:lol

you tried watching that film from juntts' chute perspective?
its pretty funny.

I guess the guy finally saw my post (which included a little bit more text than the above in reference). Rather than reach a rational agreement to disagree on the idea of chute-shooting, I got banned from his forum ;)

:lol
Give us a name so we can infest his forum with chute shooting pwnage.

Bailing, like anything else in the game, requires a degree of skill. If you want to bail and avoid being shot, you need to leave the plane at the last possible moment and then open the chute with only just enough time for a safe landing. The timing needs to be precise. It is perfectly possible to hit bailers in free fall, but it is a lot more difficult. So if you bail, and get shot because you were chicken and jumped too early, then panicked and opened the chute too early, you get what you deserve.
Now this brings me to suggest a couple of game enhancements that I hope HTC will use at some point in the development of the game.
Firstly, at the moment if you shoot a chute, it pops and the guy dies, but I think the chute damage model should be improved to include strafing the silk canopy, so that it collapses and the bailer falls to earth and leaves a red stain on the terrain similar to the black marks that bombs make, so you can see where they hit.
Secondly, the damage model of the aircraft includes things like oil on the cockpit, cracks and bullet holes, but when you shoot a pilot taking the silk elevator with 20mm cannon the explosive effect is certain to leave your canopy covered with blood hair teeth and eyeballs! I think this should be modelled correctly and included as part of the natural evolution and enhancement of the game.

I love F-4 Phantoms, and therefore have focused my somewhat limited free time on playing/modding/hosting Strike Fighters and Wings Over Vietnam... but I have also spent many years playing Aces High and following these message boards...
This place is like a virtual home for me full of characters that make me smile, laugh, and cry. No matter what I post here, I can be certain at least one person will violently disagree with me while another may post something so over the top that it offends even me (which is pretty good since I am an 8-year submarine veteran that is almost impossible to offend by any words that can be said or typed).
I can't wait for the new Combat Tour thing to come out to give me a good reason to subscirbe again and rejoin this awesome community :)
As for assaulting his forums, I actually like the guy. He is one of the anchors of the SF/WOV community. But he pushed my button so I pushed his back ;) Unfortunately, a little too hard for my own good. I really don't want to make things any worse by sending the Aces High crowd to insult jet jocks.

I bet this is the first time FDB and "art form" ever made it into the same sentence.

You guys are fantastic. It is too late to put more material into the post (having been banned). But I can't stop laughing at the stuff I am getting. I just got a couple of special gunsight examples sent to me and they are awesome. I don't understand how anybody could take chute shooting so seriously when it can be this funny!
