Title: Question about the logs
Post by: Cthen on May 13, 2006, 01:00:19 PM
After reviewing the logs this morning, I found this entry;

pilotxxx(name changed to protect the innocent)
22:09:30 Departed from Field #28 in a P-47D-11
22:27:15 Shot down a Bf 109G-6 flown by xxx.
22:27:22 Was shot down by unknown enemy.
22:31:02 Departed from Field #28 in a Gunner-Observer
22:40:13 Arrived Safely at Field #76

What/Who/Which Alien is an UNKNOWN ENEMY and who gave him/it a gun?

Names edited because the question is NOT about them.

Cthen I am not really sure. forHIM who wrote the log parser would be able to tell you.

I will guess and say the unknown enemy could be:
The AC was damaged and crashed later without any enemy near by.
Shot down or damaged by ack and later crashed.
Crashed (augured) pilot error.

Could be other reasons, but those are off the top of my head. :)

I was about to chime in with similar reasons. :)

Often in cases like this you have to sort the enemy logs by time to find out who shot you down.  The raw logs show the same thing so it's not a phraser problem.

The unknown enemy tag is when the pilot who hit the plane that later crashes / ditches, etc. is killed before that plane dies.  This is somethin HTC's log records, all we do is parse it and display it.

Off Topic Cthen but since I'm sure you'll read it here - sorry I couldn't say hello to yesterday, but I was almost alone in a fight with about 30 planes at the time.  In retrospect I would have used my time better tapping out a cheery reply.

no worries mate Dantoo

Thanks for the replies all.  I knew there was a good explanation for this.

ForHim is probably right.  It seems like when a pilot buys it, his name is removed from all "damaged by" lists.  So if only one person damages your plane, and he dies before you do, then you're shot down by an unknown enemy.  No posthumous kill awards here.

That's why I always make sure I kill my squaddie before the plane he tried to steal from me hit the ground.  Gives me 2 kills that way.  ;)

I think that was a pilot in our sqaud that was hit by puffy ack ack at high alt. A freak shot moments into the frame.
