I was watching one of the WW2 Secrets series last night, about the bombing of the German oil assets.

At the beginning they had gun-cams of 109s hitting buffs, sorta like 303s on Spit Vs... ping ping ping ping ping - half an hour later something falls off.

Then later they showed the Me-262s doing... HOLY COW BATMAN. The difference was noticeable. I also spotted one buff fly through the tracer stream with no hits (rubber bullets in WW2 as well!).

They also talked about the buff runs, typically made at 18k for accuracy. So much for our 30k dweebs.

The Mustang show tonight was exceptionally well done. The recreations with the vintage mustang and actors, the interviews with actual -51 pilots, lots of inflight movies and tons of gun camera film.

I was struck by the thought that "HTC really did this well" many times while watching the gun camera film. Fighter wings ripping off with a solid burst, fuel tanks exploding, etc. Even down to the multiple (20+ ?) cannon strikes on the B-17 in one pass... that left it flying.

Blakeslee was an absolute hoot. What an interview.

If you get a chance... don't miss it.
