:aok

I'm for those!....(and the panther) :D
-
I'd just really like to see something out there in between the non-perk armour and the Tiger.

:aok
-
im in. i want to see new tanks.
-
:aok great list (missing panther though ;) ) I like to see any of them implemented
-
Excellent list there Airscrew:aok

Sure, all good, but if we're to do an RPS we need an early war, or a crappy, tank. Something made by Italy or Japan, something that if you killed a MkIV in you'd get beaucoup perks . . .

thanks for the :aok guys.
I intentionally left the Panther and King Tiger off my list because those get requested almost as often as the B-29 :) I also wanted to list out those tanks that I thought would be viable in AH against the Panzer and Tiger.
Sakai, even the best Italian and Japanese tanks would be toast in this game, I'll go get my book at lunch and look them up again but IIRC the Italian and Japanese tanks are similar in design to the M3 Stuart, lightly armored and lightly gunned, 40mm guns. Italy didnt have the resourse to build heavy tanks and Japan didnt think tanks would be useful in island campaigns. I dont think you could kill a Panzer with anything they had.
The IS series tanks would probably be perked, as would the M26.
I think the best all around tank for AH would be the A34 Crusier Tank Comet

Yes, as noted in my post, point being:
Early war armor often sucked and so those types make a decent surrogate while giving those nations armored representation.
Asking for "hangar queen" tanks is silly, I know, but some of us like historicity and challenge and when trotting out an RPS (TOD) we will need an early war/surrogate armored vehicle (although the M3, a tad fast though, makes a decent surrogate for late 30's to 1940 tanks).
It might be the only chance for a tank from those nations.

Exhaustive list!
But from a practical standpoint, I'd think the next step should be the T-34/85 (already have the chassis basically done). After that, a shoot and scoot Tank destroyer like the M-36 would add both vehicle variety and tactical interest.
Interesting thought about early war rides....has there been interest in scenarios with a GV component?
-
I agree, although I like the Comet, the T-34/85 would be the logical choice for the next tank, because the basic chassis already exists, just add the KV-1 turent. but then that would make the existing T-34 in AH a hanger queen. I like the M-36 for the Tiger killing possibilities but with an open turent it would have a short life expectancy in the field.
I cant see where we would need early war tanks in AH, I think TOD/CT will primarily just be focused on the air war. they wouldnt be useful in the MA and just why too much work on those tanks just to have them for AvA or scenarios.

I disagree. The 37mm gun on the M-8 in the game is the same as on the Stuart, and is capable of taking out a panzer. I am not entirely sure how the Italian 40mm gun would compare to the 37mm, perhaps a bit worse, but should still be good enough to knock out a panzer that gets too close.
Besides, if a jeep can be added, why not a weak tank or two?
And with a FULL set of tanks, a re-vamp of the vehicle ENYs would likely occur, and thus some of the weaker ones would not necessarily be hanger queens. Some people just enjoy the challenge of a higher ENY ride.
Regarding your list, I would disagree with the IS-3 - I don't think it ever made it to the front. The Pershing did, but I believe only one or two engagements, and only 300 or so were even in Europe on VE Day. That beats the requirement for some of the airplanes we have, but I think for vehicles we should ask a little more.

well lets see
M3 Stuart came with 37mm M5 L/50 or the M6 L/55. My book shows the M5 had a velocity of 2545 fps and able to penetrate 48mm of armor at a range of 500 yards, and the M6 had a velocity of 2900 fps and able to penetrate 61mm of armor at 500 yards. Not all 37mm weapons are the same. I dont know right now the specs on the M8's 37mm gun.
I dont doubt the M8 can take out a Panzer but its probably got to be a lucky shot.

M-8 used the same 37mm M6 gun as the Stuart.

Lots of people do it all the time in the MA. Side and rear shots are the key -- two or three in the rear from close range usually does the trick, a few more at longer range. They tend to bounce off the front, unless you hit the "sweet spot" right next to the gun that is pointed straight at you . . . gets the blood pumping.

driving M-8s in the MA is loads of fun. Get up to 60mph and people have a hard time hitting you, then you can take cover and manouver through the foilage until you come up behind a panzer. 1 shot to the turret will disable a panzer, 1 or 2 on the back of the chasis to disable it's engine and a couple more to destroy it.
I would really like to see the M-18 added. Then I would be able to sneak up on tigers:D

In Real Life an M8 crew allegedly took down a tiger that drove past them presenting it's hiney in a close range shot. British 6 pounder crews allegedly took them down with several shots as well. I know people get all jumpy about teh "paper facts" comparing velocities to reputed armor, but in real life the results weren't always dependant on the data supplied by Aces Highers.
Sakai
While northern and eastern flanks had been heavily engaged, the northeastern section had been rather quiet. The only excitement there had been was when an M8 armored car from "E" Troop destroyed a Tiger tank. The armored car had been in a concealed position at right angles to run along a trail in front of the MLR. As the tank passed the armored car, the M8 slipped out of position and started up the trail behind the Tiger, accelerating in an attempt to close. At the same moment the German tank commander saw the M8, and started traversing his gun to bear on the armored car. It was a race between the Americans who were attempting to close so that their puny 37-mm would be effective in the Tigers "Achilles heel" (its thin rear armor), and the Germans who were desperately striving to bring their "88" to bear
Suddenly, the M8 had closed to 25 yards, and quickly pumped in 3 rounds
the lumbering Tiger stopped, shuddered; there was a muffled explosion, followed by flames which bellowed out of the turret and engine ports, after which the armored car returned to its position.
