Israeli tanks moved into Bethlehem yesterday. A 16 year old altar boy and bell ringer for the Church of the Nativity, was shot down and killed on the steps of the church by Israeli Snipers. The Franciscan Monks at the Church are under fire and bullets have been coming through the windows and hitting the inside of the church.
-
This kind of post should be preceded by "I saw it personally" or "as reported in ...".
Otherwise people may not believe you that the whole country lost their mind and started attacking their allies christians (peacefull monks at that) instead of muslim fundamentalist terrorists...
But we will take your word for it.

I believe nothin unless I made it up myself.
:D
I've been unable to find any info on this... need source.

How can you hit an altar boy without hitting a monk? I don't believe it.

hmm, lemme guess, this 'news' is from the palestinians?.. also let me guess, no photos.. no other people who have seen or heard it..
reminds me of the Taleban.
-
Israel use to shell UN-bases with artillery so why wouldn't they shoot church with mg-fire?
-
they rejected the usa's rebuke of their latest foul deeds as well.
basically israel said "go to hell usa, but keep those weapons shipments and billions in aid coming - thanks squeak"

I can NEVER foresee the USA turning its back on Israel, at least I hope not. But, that is just me and who knows what tommorow brings

i shouldn't be surprised i guess... it wouldn't be the first time a jew did that - a whole crowd of you were cheering for christs death 2000 years ago.

I can. If Israel makes good on it's threats/promises, the US will have a simple choice, support Israel or continue attacking Bin Laden.
If America supports Israel, it will find itself with no Muslim allies, and Bin Laden will gain hugely.
It's time America called in all the favours it has done for Israel, and demanded a more concilliatory approach to the Palestinians. If not, Israel is going to cost America dear.

man! No, I was stating my support for the state of Isreal I wasn't talking about them shooting Christians, I don't believe that's true. LOL!! you BIGOT, I'm Christian BTW :) I just said that my Dad's real parents were Jewish and that I consider the Jews my people, but I already did as a Christian.
Not only are you a racist bigot, but your an assuming racist bigot. :D I honestly don't know wether to be pissed or to laugh. Though I am laughing right now hehe.

Of all my friends here, the guy most torn up by this series of circumstances in the middle east is mrfish.
This is truly a world gone insane.
<hang forwards his prozac ration for oct/nov to mrfish>
Hang in there, bud.. common sense and brains are in short supply... I need you keepin me sane now more than ever. <S!>

Wow, people really showing their true colors here <points finger at MrFish>. I've lived in the U.S. for 22 years and this is the first case of BLATANT, CLEAR-CUT Anti-Semitism that i've personally witnessed. Well, had to happen sometime, i guess :(

oh wah....right on cue - good boy, here's your cracker reward, tool.
yeah let's get back to bashing 'ragheads' and 'diaperheads' and 'wickheads' right you blind fool? haven't heard any good 'gook', 'chink', 'slant' or 'wong way' jokes since the conversations on china died down. that doesnt seem to bother anyone does it? hypocrits.
12 pills per day is the right dosage eh hang? is that the extra pissed off dosage? your opinion is one of the few i'd ever listen to even though we dont always see eye to eye- so i'll shut up. :D
two good eyes and we still don't see...i hope the middle east does soon for everyone's sake...
i get a little heated when i think of the wool job israel has been pulling on the west and how people bumble along cheering for them though many over there consider you and your sister and your wife and your mother and your father and your kids 'unclean' and inferior.
i also get a little heated when i hear businessmen laughing and bagging on a 'shiksa' in the elevator when they think i dont understand them. they don't realize i have worked side by side with jewish people almost exclusively for over a decade in the advertising and finance industry and now studying science, and have learned all the insults and opinions of us 'dirty goy' that the masses don't get to share. this 'shaygetz' isn't deaf!
that, and countless other lovely moments can make a guy too sensitive i guess. moreso than i'd like to be honestly. i suppose you'd have to live where i live to understand what i mean.
i can't say anything more about this - i don't have anything good to say about it or the players involved. you believe what you want, i know what's happening and don't give a damn if any of you ever do. this is the sep 11th affair for most of you, i have been yelling and sounding the alarm for years.
i did my part trying to let people know the real deal in the middle east but you will believe what you're told anyway. i want a peaceful world and have had enough of everyone thinkeing they are 'better' or 'clean' or 'chosen' whoever they are! i don't like being looked down at anymore than a anyone else would.
if the jews in israel think that then i'll have contempt for them no matter what you call me! when they start thinking of themselves as human and down here with the rest of us we can be brothers that very moment.
i just hope everyone gets whats coming to them whatever it may be good or bad. but that would be just, fair and as such unprecedented so i doubt it.
good luck people.

Yup. With double JD/rocks chaser, and a fat ganja spliff. I never post here without it. :D

S! all
I read the report in Canada's premier newspaper: The Globe and Mail. It was also reported in The Guardian and London Times, two of Britain's most respected papers. Here is the online report from the Guardian, the only of the three to include the report in its online section:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/israel/Story/0,2763,578222,00.html (http://www.guardian.co.uk/israel/Story/0,2763,578222,00.html)
Perhaps the story was not published in the States. But in any case, whether you choose to believe it or not, the Israelis are killing a lot of innocent civilians and bringing war right to the doorstep of some holy places.
-
S!
It's too bad I can't show you the article in the Globe and Mail which was much more detailed and reported by a Globe correspondent on the scene in Bethlehem. He interviewed the mother of the boy killed who was 16, not 19 as mentioned in the Guardian article. He also interviewed Franciscan monks from the Church.
Anyone Canadian who is interested can find the article in Tuesday's Globe and Mail in the News section.
-
Saw some footage on it on the BBC World News tonight... tragic.. thanks for the heads up Buzz. Nope; not reported as far as I know on US networks.

By the way:
I fully support the Allied action in Afghanistan.
At the same time, the Israelis are basically causing the fragile coalition which Bush and Tony Blair have created, to be in danger of collapsing as a result their actions in the West Bank.
There needs to be a settlement of the Middle East question or no one in this world is going to be safe. The U.S. has got to lay down the law to both Israel and the Palestinians.
Otherwise the bloodbath which is occurring the present Holy land is going to engulf the world.
-
Hehe I actually agree with you regarding the "holier than thou" thing. I don't blindly support any policy that Israel puts forth. To tell you the truth, most Israelis that I've met in person have been arrogant SOBs. I DO, however, support Israel's right to exist, as well as their right to defend themselves against those who don't think they have the right to exist.
As for your froth-at-the-mouth comments above, well - thanks for proving my point. Had you said "innocent people" I might have ignored it, but you said "Innocent Christians". So before you start talking equality & brotherhood - clean your own house. I grew up in the bad old USSR where anti-semitism was a daily fact of life, and I can smell one a mile away, even over the Internet. Thanks for proving my point, Mr. "I know a few words in Yiddish".
One more thing. Have you ever BEEN to the Middle East? If you havent spent a significant amount of time "on the scene", may I respectfully suggest that you STFU. 1/2 the people I hung out with during my YEARS in the Middle East were Arabs (I happen to love the Oud, and love to play Arabic music with those guys). I also missed a certain public Jerusalem bus by about 6 minutes, which is why i'm talking to you right now and am not a bunch of dead cells rotting in the ground - the very bus I missed was a suicide bomber target, 26 people dead :( If you approve of that kind of thing - perhaps you should go live in Jerusalem for a while.
In fact, this goes for all of the armchair policy makers - before you hold forth on the Middle East, go check it out - you might learn something, if you live.

Well, I didnt see MrFish frothing at the mouth at last week's assasination of an Israeli Minister, did I? Nor do I see a "Tanks in <insert A area here>" posts with such vehement hate flying around.
I shouldnt be surprised, really. Bethlehem has always aroused passions that result in calls for someone's blood. The truth is, I think moving into Bethlehem was a STUPID thing for Israel to do - they should know better by now. That doesnt make the ourtage I saw in this thread any less "selective".
I did call MrFish an anti-semite. This would probably be the ONLY time i've earnestly accused/insulted anyone in the WB/AH community in the 6 years that I've been playing. I stand by what I said.
-
from The Guardian:
"The focus of much of the activity was Bethlehem, which is located just a few miles south of Jerusalem and whose outlying areas have been a source of gunfire and shelling on the Jewish neighbourhood of Gilo in the disputed section of the city."
So they actually had a REASON to move into Bethlehem! How presumtious of them - it was only gunfire & shelling. Maybe they should have asked for more <g>
"At the Vatican today, Pope John Paul II expressed sorrow over the killing of a 19-year-old Palestinian yesterday near the Church of the Nativity, apparently by a stray machine gun bullet fired from a distance."
Hmmm, I thought it was a heartless Yid sniper targeting boys in monk's habits, doing his part for the Zionist Conspiracy ;)
From Buzzbait:
"A 16 year old altar boy and bell ringer for the Church of the Nativity, was shot down and killed on the steps of the church by Israeli Snipers. The Franciscan Monks at the Church are under fire and bullets have been coming through the windows and hitting the inside of the church. "
One of these things is not like the other <g>
-
Alter boys are a notoriously vicious, and deadly adversary. Of course the Israelis had to devote the resources of an entire sniper team to taking him out.
Where do you people come from? (shakes head.)
-
S!
I said 'innocent civilians', not 'Christians'.
As far as the altar boy is concerned:
I am sorry you can't see the Globe and Mail article which I mentioned. You'll have to take my word for it.
The article said the Altar boy was hit by gunfire coming from Israeli positions.
By the way #2
I support the right for Israel to exist as a state. I also support the right for the Palestinians to have a full state in the West bank.
I think they have to share Jerusalem or have it as some kind of neutral city. There's just too religious sites for the Jews, Muslims and Christians for any one government to be controlling it.
In my opinion that is the only solution which will bring any kind of permanent peace to the region.
Not to mention that nutbar fanatics like Bin Laden won't have any kind of excuse to point to when they claim justification for their murderous acts. And they won't have a ready pool of recruits who have been made rabid by the conflict.

why would I? it was in retaliation for the fact that the israelis snipered and carbombed two palestinians earlier that week! why do you people try so hard to glaze over that FACT. remember facts you wordsmith?
isreal whacks 2 people and the world says nothing. when asked to justify the event israel says "no comment"
a few days later the palestinians strike back and get one official. this time it's the end of the world and all you woe is me types crawl out of the woodwork and waving your lighters in the air and singing we are the world.
all the while the people never question and just bounce along with their fingers up their noses feeding the sympathy train that has been running for 50yrs now.
you want a world where the israelis strike whoever they please and the palestinians sit there and take it.
sure are a lot of russians with a lot of time spent in the middle east that love to get on here and exhalt israel, you certainly arent the only one, i wonder if you care to state your bias - where do you take shabbat?
even if it wasn't in retaliation i wouldn't care because israel has no right to be there in the 1st place - they are an occupying unwanted foreign nation of invaders and get what they deserve. we should wash them off as soon as we get near a sufficient amount of delousing agent.

the town i live in is wall to wall jews. when i moved here 2 decades ago i was as naieve as the next guy. i thought all jews were like the alpine lace cheese commercial guy. a kindly old man with a funny accent who just cares about my blood pressure, sodium intake and the freshness of my cheese.
i was a hurt to find out that in reality the jews i met feel that my people are literally unclean and inferior.literally - unclean like a turd and inferior like a dog. and you call me a nazi!?
i learned that they hold this view in private and cry crocodile tears in the light; that rules actually existed forbidding marriage between a jewish man and an unclean gentile woman. is your mom unclean? your sister? your daughter? i don't know how that makes you feel but it made me angry.
i'll tell you something about me, i don't stay the hurt little victim for long!
in a perfect world i would love the people who despised me. in my imperfect world: if you despise me, i despise you ten times back.
antisemite? nazi? um...those are labels and it seems to me those are people who would hate a jew or any minority probably because they were different and not like them.
..or just because their father did or some other stupid reason. i don't know about those groups but if your feeble mind needs a label to bite down on, then whatever makes you happy.
my ire is action based, not race based. therefore, the day american jews stop looking at my people as inferior is the day we can get along just fine. the day israeli jews stop screwing the palestinians is the day we can get along just fine. their ethnicity is only an identifier, it's the actions i 'hate'.
i'm not into violence or spraypainting swazi's on people, i am a firm believer in agressive truth telling and vigorous myth breaking and spin demolition. people can only shine you when you aren't aware of them doing it. that's my weapon.
you can feel however you want about me, if not paying homage to the people that despise me is wrong, then let me be wrong.
and apache, if my conclusion seems unsupported by fact, perhaps you should review how the state of israel came to be. the beauty ofd the truth is that i don't need to tell you what to think, the facts speak for themselves.
come on, i haven't heard any zionist conspiracy nutjob flames yet - doesn't anyone have one of those for me? ;)

1) Where do you see me exhalt Israel? I clearly stated, in fact, that I DON'T blindly support Israeli policy just because it is Israeli.
2)I'm not religious - i dont take shabbat anywhere. I AM however married to a devout Christian - a genuine one, not a POS hipocrite like yourself.
3) What Udie said - you're a disgusting jew-hating racist bigot, and your use of the words "delousing agent" shows us all exactly where your REAL thoughts are on the subject. There are some Neo-Nazi hate groups that would LOVE to have your ignorant racist bellybutton be a part of them. Or maybe you already are - wouldnt surprise me any :(

The Truth is a mighty sword. And it has two edges.. it cuts those that would deny her... and also those who would use her to enlighten.
Yer inna lose lose deal mrfish. Nobody is allowed to voice EVER, at ANY level ANY dissent for the actions of Jews... for if you (and now WE) do; you are INSTANTLY labeled a RACIST and a NAZI.
you are a RACIST BIGOT NAZI
If he is, then so am I; according to your criteria. Which pisses me off, cause I know what a Nazi really is. Which leaves me confused as hell.

isn't racism great, no matter which side it is flung from .... :(
sounds like Alabama in the early 60's ... amazing the mentality is still around - blind hate for someone over something they have zero control over.

"i shouldn't be surprised i guess... it wouldn't be the first time a jew did that - a whole crowd of you were cheering for christs death 2000 years ago."
That's what the racist bigot comment is for. that and ...
The eloquint mrfish yet again...
"even if it wasn't in retaliation i wouldn't care because israel has no right to be there in the 1st place - they are an occupying unwanted foreign nation of invaders and get what they deserve. we should wash them off as soon as we get near a sufficient amount of delousing agent"
That sounds pretty damned nazi to me.
I hope your not pissed at me Hangtime, I have a lot of respect for you and my comments to the fish are to him only. Nazi might actually be too harsh a word, but you know what he said was pretty damned harsh and pisses me off.
For you Hangtime, I'll go back and remove nazi from my other posts. I guess that is sort of a knee jerk phrase to throw around these days, even when it does apply.
hmmm I wonder if HTC will step in and start "refereing" the board. That might not be such a bad idea right about now. Though my list of people I love to shoot down is growing :D

Mr fish
You do know that christ was a Jew right? just wondering.
Oh and far as my religious affiliations none exist, when you start lumping a group or people into a category that's racist. If you said some Jews, christians, palastinians etc. that would be a much better way of sayin it. Jews, Palastinians and Christians all have a right to be there. Pick up a history book you might learn something.

http://www.cnn.com/2001/WORLD/meast/10/24/meast/index.html (http://www.cnn.com/2001/WORLD/meast/10/24/meast/index.html)
Mention is made of someone being killed in Bethlehem.
Palestinian sources said in other fighting on the West Bank three Palestinians had been killed at Tul Karem, one at Abu Dis, and one at Bethlehem.
...IDF spokesman said IDF forces moved into the village because "the cell that was responsible for the killing of Ze'evi is from this village, and those who are responsible for the killing of an Israeli officer.
"All those who were killed during the incursion are members of Hamas, PFLP and the Tanzim," the spokesman said, adding five Palestinians were killed and one was "in an unknown condition."
A report that is slightly off kilter is this one:
In other developments, Jewish settlers fired on a car filled with six Palestinians who were on their way to work from Yatta, the Palestine Red Crescent Society and Palestinian security sources told CNN.
All six were wounded, with two of them critically injured with gunshot wounds to the head.
This is one I'd like to see a little more info on. It just doesn't add up.

Not to be picky, but Judeism is a religion not a race.

This coming from somebody who called me a nazi just 2 days ago!!!! :D j/k Yeah, I deleted the nazi references from my posts, hangtime got me thinking that I may actually offend/hurt somebody else besides the fish. He's defenately a bigot though, to me a racist is a bigot is a racist, there is no diference. Got to admit though, it takes big nuts to say something like he did in a somewhat public forum like this. The word idiot comes to mind too.
This is to the fish,
I don't know if you speak or understand arabic and I'm sure I'll misspell this as I don't read or write arabic so these words are spelled phoneticly in English....
Telhasthese -and- airi feek (way misspelled)
And in pharsie (that's Iranian in case you didn't know fish)
Keer to kun et -or- r am to dan esh madar et (that last one was REAL BAD if I said it in English I'd probobly get banned or beat up real bad hehe) I could say am to dan et! but that one is very gross. Just so you know, when an Iranian cusses you out, he does it in a VERY discriptive way :) Sorry to anybody those offended...

I went for a long walk this afternoon.. I was/am upset; I'm worried as hell; and I'm tired. There's anguish all around me.. and my pain amounts to squat compared to the other folks I know, and that somehow makes me feel even worse.
They found a friend of mine at ground zero the other day.. Just his legs. His wife said to me last night "He didn't want to be cremated... we've already had the memorial service... now what do I do??..."
Kinda like a usual day here lately in the shadow of the Big Apple.
Here on this BBS we all tend to get comfy with sterotypes and labels. I'm as guilty or more so than the next guy.. I was under the impression this is a place to blow off some steam, maybe get a laff, maybe make a point, spread some light; help somebody open a closed door in their minds.
It should not be the place where friends become enemys.
I often wonder and marvel at the power of the demos[/b].. that barking mob of society, the enraged knee-jerk social voice that reacts so visciously to that which it cannot grasp or understand.
So, I'll try one time myself to put aside my social indoctrination, my sterotypical gladhanding and grandstanding and just say what I feel.
I'm not a nazi, a jew hater, a bigot or a commie. I'm not even a democrat, or a republican, or a christian or a muslim.
I'm an American.
I can read, write, (but spell poorly) formulate opinions, check facts, obfuscate data I don't like, spotlight the stuff I do, make my points based on insight, imagery or imagination... feel pride in my fellow americans, feel pain for them; laugh at them, holler for their heads when they diddly up.
I can and do understand that I am rarely right, grumpily wrong; stubbon prideful and pigheaded..
Just like most of you.
I count most of you as friends, all of you as virtual neighbors; yer here in my virtual livingroom now, as we spar and parry ideas and inuendo...
Right now; this very minute, the fate of this lil world rests in hands no more competent or capable than all of yours and mine. There really ain't that much room left anymore for raw hatred for a race or sub-type, or religious faction or geographical group. Yet the hate is growing; labels are being slung like stones, dreams are dying, and folks are preparing to slaughter their neighbors..
Yes, I believe that Israel has contributed greatly to the current mideast crisis.. it elected what amounts to a hardline government with an agenda that includes an about face on the Camp David Accords and has stymied commerce and peace with its neighbors. Belligerance does not broker peace.
Yes, I've seen my government do some pretty dumb toejam itself... selling arms to Iraq, abandoning people it vowed to protect, nations it promised to support.. again and again.
No, I do not believe mrfish is a nazi. I believe he has identified a key point tho... we all respond to how we are treated, and we respond with respect to those who treat us with respect.
America and Americans are no less 'racist' than Japan or Israel or China or Pakistan or India or Libya or France or Saudi Arabia... or Russia.
So.. I guess i'm just trying to see thru the roadkill sterotypes now, and looking at what needs to be done..
"End terror and terrorist regimes, by any and all means expedient." Thats still job ONE, issue ONE.
In order for that to be possible in our still ideological racist world, we need to get to an accord amongst ourselves, a calm whereby ALL Americans and ALL nations regardless of religion, race or creed loudly and with definite indignation demand a stop to Israel's state sponsored violence in Palestine... a stop to Palestines state sponsored violence in Israel.
I am not placing blame on either set of players in the middle east... when a fire starts; you don't affix blame. You put out the fire. Or it spreads...
mrfish.. the demos tried and convicted Socrates for speaking the truth. Don't take the hemlock cure pal. after he was gone, the truth was still there, but Socrates wasn't.

I grew up in a largely Jewish community, to this day have Jewish friends from high school, and I am married to a Jewish woman with the ceramony performed by a highly reformed Rabbi.
The Jewish religion and culture -- like many other tight-knit social, religious and cultural affiliations -- can be a bit clannish, which frankly can be offputting at times. To be honest, at some soical party gatherings I have felt like an outsider, and traditions like marrying in the faith remain strong and personally disagreeable. But, to an agnostic like myself, my Southern Baptist relatives can be a bit clannish and offputing as well. As for the "Secret Jewish Conspiracy", it never really made sense to me.
The Jewish lawyer, doctor, banker, Hollywood mogul or landlord (and advertising, PR or marketing professional today) has been stereotyped, and, indeed, these are professions where members of the Jewish community have worked to establish careers. But what is ignored is the fact that for the better part of modern history Jews have been excluded from most aspects of mainstream industry and political power. How many Jews sit on Corporate 500 boards, even today? A drive for financial success is a part of the culture, which, along with a continual drive for higher education, are hard to really argue against -- particularly with the cultural adaptations necesssitated from the diaspora days. If other doors are closed you go to where you are allowed the oportunity to get ahead. On a personal level, I got my first job in PR after college on the recommendation of a Jewish instructor in my crisis management class to one of her professional clients actually. I'm sure there were Jewish students in the class she could have recommended in my place, but she judged me on my effortsn in class and not my religion.
Even though there was a strong Jewish population in the Norther Chicago suburb where I grew up (Northbrook), the real money (and social power) was In the WASP communities in towns like Glencoe and Winnetka. Hell, they even changed the name on half of a street in an upscale part of unincorporated Northbrook when a Jewish family moved in.
As for the stereotypes in general, I know gentiles who are cheaper than any Jew I know, and I know Jews who are as generous as any gentile I know. I know some Jewish men who are rather arrogant and perhaps a bit bigoted, but I would be hard pressed to say anymore so than the rest of society (though some of my wive's Jewish girlfriends actually seem to believe this stereotype as well). I also know many Jewish men who are as easy-going and accepting as anyone I've known. I have found that if you give as good as you take, you gain the respect of confrontational personal styles. Or just ignore them and get along with life.
MrFish, I don't know what you have experienced in your life -- it does seem this is based on personal experience as opposed to some upbringing issue or indoctrination. I can imagine that ego and aggression are common among exec's in the ad agency world and that your Jewish experience might have been a bit tainted by the influence of a few. I hope you someday encounter the positive aspects of the community.
As for Israel, I have long (well over a decade) supported a more multi-lateral approach to Israeli/Palestinian relations. The Palestinians are here to stay and so is Israel. Both seem to be playing some territorial end game, trying to wear each other down with calculated provocations, to have the best deal in place on the day a Palestinian state comes into existance. Frankly, I'm tired of it but far less so, I imagine, than the majority of Israelis and Palestinians. After we take care of the Bin Laden organization, if this doesn't turn into World War 3 in the meantime, I believe we need to help find a fair solution for both sides -- then move on as a country.
The Israeli lobby has been very successful at promoting its positions through voting blocks and campaign financing. They also yield the "anti semitism" card with considerable effectiveness at muting criticism -- deserved or not. However, I have long wondered why the pro-palestinian block has so totally failed to get organized over the years. There has been no conspiracy keeping them down, just a very belated understanding (it was starting to come together before Sept. 11) of how to win friends and influence people in Washington.

hehehe..
once in New York I walked to two different jewish men to ask for directions.
Both of them looked at me like toejam, and kept on walking.
According to my family, the jews there dont very much like blacks.
who's the bigot.

I was there.
OJ strafed those altar boys in a 2/3 scale P-51 Mustang. Then he did a chandelle and headed for Cuba. Ernest Hemingway was in the back seat. He called me a schmekelfleiser. It was magnificent.
Shut up you tards.

Ernie?? Hell; my granma sez she did the wild naked monkey dance with him, (and he gave her the clap) ...
..but then, so did pretty much everybody else. (so they all got the clap too)
hoover said the consensus was ernie had a lil schmekelfleiser, which delayed the bio-terrorist warfare response. fbi said nearly half the dicks in america fell off by 1960.
which goes to show one lil schmekelfleiser can cause a lotta dicks to drop in the dirt.
that explains the whole deal.
-
`yes Osage, I saw them fly overhead
ernest hemmingway kept yelling with foul language, and when a man wearing a monocle told him to watch his language, he convinced OJ to land the plane. a fist fight ensued, with the results of a drunken hemmingway muttering gibberish on the floor of a bar by the harbor.

Maybe that was just New York Animal :) I've found that if you dared acknowledge anyone on the street (at least in Manhattan) you were seen as being some sort of freak. Hell, even making eye contact and smiling was unnerving. Perhaps this has changed today after the attacks. Against those two encounters you have to consider that Jews were on the forefront of the Civil Rights movement.
Personally, on my way to the United Center the other night a well dressed and well-spoken black man ask me for directions, claiming he was an out of towner with a broke-down rental car. My wife yelled at me to move along (perhaps her Jewish dislike of blacks, or her understanding of what a sucker I can be :). His pitch was good, but when he asked for money to get across town I caught on. In any city the "directions" setup, followed by the bus/cab fare pitch, is a common street com practiced by people of all races.

Mrfish it takes big nuts to speak out against Israel, it's a damn shame more people don't have the guts to speak up. <S>
IMO the US should wash their hands of Israel, we've dished money and arms to them for decades without recieving much in return, other than grief for supporting them.
The US has been their most steadfast friend and now they turn around and bite us on the leg like a stray dog when we ask them to show some restraint and not make the situation worse.
The Holocaust was an awful thing - but how long are we going to carry the guilt because Hitler tried to wipe out the Jewish people?
Go ahead and call me a bigot, racist, or nazi if it makes you feel better - I've been called worse. ;)

Actually I hope the opposite. It will be too the USA's advantage to continue to support and embrace a close relationship with Israel.

Ammo as long as toejam happens in Middle-East and U.S is financing those incidents you can be sure someone is makeing plans to blow up your ass.
Not that I care. You reap what you sow.

How so ammo?
Sure - we should continue to be friendly to them - but only if they reciprocate.
I don't see why the US should continue supporting them with billions in military and economic assistance if they can't reciprocate when we ask for something in return - in this case simply to show some restraint while we conduct a military campaign?
We have supported them long enough with hand outs, I say cut em loose, let them sink or swim based on their own merit.

Right does not require payment Weaz.

at one time an anti-semite was someone who was considered anti-jewish. Even though arabs and middle eastern christians are "semites".
now an anti-semite is any one (or opinion) the jews don't like.
Being outraged at the violence perpetuated by the isrealis on palistinians is niether anti-semitism or nazism. Like being against arab terrorism is now where close to anti-arab.
Modern Isreal rose out of jewish terrorism and as horrid as arab terror acts committed against ireali citizens are staga is correct
Not that I care. You reap what you. sow

We need to sponsor a Palestenian state that does not have a mandate to destroy Israel. Both governments need to be equally determined to control terrorisim in their states. Both need to accept a UN brokered and monitored border.
Thats just a start.
If either side refuses to come to these terms, we resort to means appropriate and consistent with bringing them both to the table. Pronto.
If yer kid brother continues to pick on the neighbor kid (or vice versa) after you warn him off, you kick his bellybutton and explain it to him again. I think we have the means to explain the situation to either Israel or Palestine.
-
Why do Americans always spell Israel "Isreal"?
Probably because they pronounce it "Isreeee-ahl".
Maybe we should take over the US for a bit, to rectify this horrible crime!
:D

I think this is the best way to settle the issue. MAKE them settle it or kick both their asses. I do think it will take a wall of UN/NATO troops to physicly stand between the two parties though. It's about the only way I can think of to stop them from fighting. If I was an Israeli or a Palestinian I'd shoot or throw rocks at the UN/NATO too for coming onto my land. So I would expect any UN/NATO action to be met by some type of force from both sides, probobly more from the Israeli side since they have better stuff.
I saw a very good show last night on the history of Sharon and Arafat. It started at both their childhoods when the region was controlled by the British and ended with the assasination last week. I learned alot about the conflict that I didn't know and was reminded of things that I had forgotten. The program left me thinking.
I think that both the Israelis and the Palestinians, espesially the Palestinians, have damned good reason to be pissed at Egypt and Jordan. Those two countries have done more to cause the longevity of this conflict than either Israel or Palestine. Why did the UN allow Egypt and Jordan to take over Palestinian land after the 1948 war? Had they not, maybe just maybe one or more of the other wars would not have happened.
I hope that if we are ever able to divide this land up rightfully that Egypt and Jordan are made to help build a Palestinian economy. If you ask me the Palestinians would do better if they would allign themselves with Israel. I know that's laughable, but I think it's true...

putting UN's in there would just give the crazy I's and crazy P's more targets.
The sane I's, which I think are more of than the sane P's, need to eliminate the crazy P's as the sane P's do not seem to be able to control or want to control them themselves, all the while the sane I's need to keep the insane I's under control as not the escalate the problem.
there, simple as can be :)
