Won't be able to make it this year, it's the only weekend daughter will be home for quite awhile.

Anyone who's never been there should make every attempt to go.

I have it marked down. I'll be there as far as I know. Which day will depend on the weather. Looking forward to seeing a 109 flying.

I will most likely be there Saturday, but weather and finances permitting I might stick around for both days.

And for anyone else who doesn't like to read, its June 2nd and 3rd. :p

My roommate and I are driving over 4 hours to see it. Hope we make it. Looks amazing and the only thing stopping me from getting a ride in the B-17 is the people in front of me!

Rosie and I drove about 7 hours in total to see it last year. I would really like to see that 109E.

There's not really any aircraft this year that has me excited about it (since Ive been there several consecutive years).  I'll probably end up deciding to go within a couple days of it anyways, especially if there are some AH'ers to run around with...(Fun day last year dogg :)  )

Used to take off work early with FF1 to go to the show on fridays, before he passed away.  Im guessing Ill probably go saturday (weather permitting).

Well, it looks like I will be going.  I thought it would be fun, UNTIL, I mentioned it to my wife.  First thing she said, was, "How long will it take US to get there?"

She doesn't really care about aviation, or my cartoon airplane game.  But, she has pushed me into flying lessons when I mentioned it to her way back when.....she doesn't complain when I show up from a shopping run with a bunch of 1/18 scale toy planes that hang all over my basement.....she doesn't care about my $15 monthly AH addiction (I'm glad I didn't meet her when it was $30 :D  ) .......she doesn't fuss over the amount of time I'm on AH.  Hek, last week she bought me a 60" LCD projection for my puter room!! hehe :aok

For some strange reason she loves me, and puts up with all of my crap.  So, ya we'll be at Reading, hand in hand, with her pretending to enjoy the show.  (she will be most enjoying the fact that I am having some good CLEAN fun).  Some times we men hit the jackpot!!  At least I did!! :aok

Oh, btw, I love her to death also!!  And try to give her the support and love that she shows me!!

So, if you are at Reading and see two 43 year olds acting like teens, it's us! Say hello! ;)   I'll probably be wearing a Marines ball cap (tan with red lettering) in honor of my son who is deploying to Iraq in June.  I am ex-army, but anyway will be (cough-cough) supporting the Corps.

We'll be at Reading Sat and Sun.......hope the hotel has thick walls ;)

After Reading, it's Aero Expo in Akron, Oh (Canton is home), then Thunder over Michigan in August I believe.

ENJOY THE SHOW!!!!!!!!!

ps......Wife ack???  What's that??  hehe........well, now and then I get a shot across the bow, but heh?  who doesn't?

Jeez, with so many of us going we should wear nametags or something :)

Post by: b4o2s9s on May 23, 2006, 01:52:52 AM
Hey I will be there in my uniform. My roommate and I will probably be of very few wearing Navy whites lol. Not too hard to spot. If you see me I have blonde hair so that should make it a little easier. Come over and say hi, I'd like to meet some fellas that fly with or against me in AH. Just get close enough to the guy in the navy uniform so you can easily be heard and say "Lane" cause that's what I go by so....

After a careful review of the current fiscal situation, I have come to the conclusion that it will be impossible to attend this year. :cry

I could afford the gas for the round trip and admission, but nothing else. $3.15 a gallon with almost 500 miles a week driving to and from work (in a car that averages 20 miles a gallon) is really starting to add up. :(

Well it looks like Sunday is going to be the best weather day, anyone
planning on going then?

Well, I was planning on Saturday, but one of my kids can't go that day, and I'll never hear the end of it if I go without her (again).  So Sunday it is.

My roommate and I are headed down tonight and will be there all weekend. Due to current events though looks like I can't afford the B-17 ride. Kind of a bummer but it happens. I'll just wait until the 909 comes to Washington next year. I get stationed there this July on the Henry M. Jackson SSBN 730.

OOOOOOO i WENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For my first time there I didnt see much axis aircraft.... Just saw alot of american planes....

Saw a bunch of trainer aircraft doing formations and then a solo one of them...he was doing a bunch of loops and aileron rolls....  I saw the corsair doing flyby's with the B5N (only axis plane i saw :cry ) while they did the reinactment of the battle of okinawa which was awsome only cuz of the flamethrower  guy:D

saw the P-51D and P-40E up close and personal...But IMHO i thinkt he coolest part was the reinactment of the fight in the little town with the germans vs the americans which the germans totally kicked prettythang:lol

But my biggest disappointment was that I didnt see a 109   :cry :( :cry :(

Was it there Platano?
It should have been there with a Spit and Hurricane.

I didn't go today because of the weather.
Gonna drive up tomorrow.

Let me know ASAP.. Thanks!

i frantically seached the whole place but saw no 109 or spit or hurri.... mayb they were saving it for tomorrow Sunday I dunno but today all I saw was Lancaster,B-17, B-25, P-51D, Corsiar, P-40, TBM, B5N(jap dive bomber) and a couple of trainer aircraft...and thats it...

BTW the weather today wasnt to bad they did the battle of okinawa reinactment with the the Corsiar on the B5N's 6 it was pretty cool...it was cloudy thats all no rain....But if you see a 109 pleze take pics of it and tell me where it was... ty  <>

BTW they do a BADASS fight scene germans vs americans in the little town... don't miss it ... you'll know wen its going on cuz you'll here the gunz going off

:D

The weather plays havok with getting the planes in there. I've been "lucky" enough to be there during the rain and clouds before and a number of planes have had to back out because they can't fly in  due to the weather.... missed seeing the P38 one year due to weather  :(

But even if only half the planes show, its still a blast !! They put on a great show down there and I look forward to going back again and again !

Stuff jammed me up yesterday after the crappy weather on Fri and Sat, so I ended up missing you guys. Much as that bummed me out I'd have felt worse to have gone and not seen a 109 on the ramp.

I was everywhere :) Did a quick walkthrough, to see the aircraft, (was only a couple I hadn't seen before, and had rolls of film on) caught a glimps of R Lee Earmly.  Took the kids around through the different camps.  Hit the vendors.  Watched the skirmish reenactment in the French town mock up.  Listened to Luther Smith of the Tuskegee Airmen speak.  Headed back to the line for some aerial displays.  Walked through the museum hanger.  Snuck out the back gate to aviod the 300 yard line for the buses, and caught the next bus that came by :)

I talked with the organizers on Sunday and
they told be the Russell Group aircraft
(Spit/109/Hurri) couldn't fly in due to the
weather.  Big time disappointment!

You can still see pics of those aircraft
here:

http://www.maam.org/wwii/ww2_bobf.htm

But the guys with the flamethrowers were
awesome!  Never see that before.  The heat
was amazing..even on the other side of the runway!
That was one devastating weapon...

Yep, got a decent shot of that too (http://479th.jasminemarie.com/images/lanc063.jpg).  Most of the good ones are still on 35mm roll.  These are from the digital camera.  Every time I considered standing in line to see R Lee, there was always another priority first.

Anybody else notice the parking crew's joke on Sunday?  Lot's 3,4, &5 were all marked "Too wet".  The grass was empty on that whole side of the airport except for one lone car.  It had a sign posted in front of it saying "Dumb As*"

Think this is the first time in 4-5 years I didn't run across any fellow AHers or AWers.  There's always next year.

Might have to go through my several years of pics, and upload them to an album at airwarrioronline.com, now that I think about it :)
