Title: A couple of JG300 109G6s that might be worth doing
Post by: Guppy35 on May 17, 2006, 11:50:58 AM
Thought these were interesting.  Found in the massive JG300 history.  Interesting in that the swastika on the tails was oversprayed as were much of the markings so nothing would have to be left off and the missing swastika would be accurate.

Plenty of photos in the book to support the profiles too.  Maybe some of the 109 guys might want to take a shot?

What were they, night fighters? I ask only because I've heard NF's did similar over-spraying of markings.

It was during their Wild Sau times but also flow on daytime sorties.  Inflight photos of some on daylight flights.

Cool. I just noticed the DTs are black. I couldn't tell if the underside was "in shadow" or not. Now that I notice the DTs are black it looks more like the entire underside is too. Interesting. That would mean they were painted as night fighters, but were still used in day time. I guess if you have to fly day and night, it's best to paint it for night (when sneaking around is more important).
