you need to see the exhaust on this engine up close very complex and not tubes

You're kidding right? I think it took like 8 seconds from the time he started to roll, maybe 200-300 feet? :D

Post by: NAVCAD on May 18, 2006, 02:58:00 PM: Hate to burst everyone's bubble, but hands down, bar none, the P-51 has the sweetest sound of all. NOTHING sounds like a mustang, either in the air or on the ground.

(Never have been able to figure that out, the RR merlin engine was in a number of different aircraft but none of them sound like the Mustang)

Post by: Karnak on May 18, 2006, 11:11:56 PM: It is interesting to see how fast the A6M5 seems in that video. A bit slower than the Spitfire in the other video and the P-51s I have seen in reality, but still markedly faster than normal prop jobs.

Definately a fighter.

:lol to the people who think a 1200hp engine sounds like a lawnmore or leaf blower.

The last flying Mossie crashed in July, 1996, killing both people onboard. :(

That video you linked is a Spit XVIII with a Griffon engine. I think a Griffon 65 like in the Mk XIV.

i was lucky enough to see one at duxford in the early 90's. fantastic plane. guy feathered a prop and was still throwing it round like a fighter.

heck my hat is off to them for getting 1200hp out of a two stroke engine.
