Title: Cookies?
Post by: Sandman on May 17, 2006, 11:36:46 PM
Okay... I discovered something odd just now.

In the DaVinci code thread, someone mentioned the Hot Zone. Unfamiliar with it, I googled.

Then, I decided to look for a game at Newegg. I didn't quite like the price, so I went to Amazon.com and imagine my surprise to see:

"Customers with similar searches purchased" and three different editions of "The Hot Zone" book.

So... Google cookies are shared with Amazon. Is that how it works?

I'm using FireFox. It wasn't the last page visited. It was a couple pages before. Never seen something like this before. Just wondering if it's a new technique I hadn't heard about.

As far as I know cookies are supposed to be available only to said domain. I'll ask around.

Thanks. You've been a big help.

Yeah, that's the way it works. That's why Skuzzy often warns people about 'tracking cookies' in threads with links - a losing battle, unfortunately.

In firefox, you can mark the checkbox 'for the originating website only' in the cookie section. Voila!
