the P-51B and the P-51D canopys are backwards In the B you could not look behind you because of the back of the canopy was not glass the canopy on the D was a like a bubble canopy called a phantom canopy you could see all around you now in the game when you fly a 51D I cant see behind me at all but in the 51B I can,Is there a way to change this detal???? :aok :noid:O

Red, in every plane you can adjust your head position for any view.
For example, while looking back (2 key on keypad or back on hat) try using forward arrow, then page up. Once you've got the view set to where your happy with it, hit F10. That will then save your view for that plane.
There are view packs available, a quick search of the forums should find you one.

For shorter players, I would recommend a booster chair or a couple of phone books on the seat to give you a little boost to see out the back.

they aren't backwards, you just havent set your views :D
look back and hold the button down, then hold page up for a bit, till your head cant go up any further, then move your head to the side using the left or right arrow key, and it also helps to hold the down arow key for a bit, once you have your head where you want it, pree f10 to save it. now every time you use that view your head will be in that position for you :)
if you like i'll zip my .pos files up for you and send them to you, so that you dont need to go setting them all up :)
-
Ive tried to do that but when I do my wepons wont fire in the middle of my cross hairs maybe Im doing something wroung if you would could you send me that stuff thank you :aok :O
-
Can someone tell me how to get a cool avitar something with a P-51D in it maybe thanxs guys
-
Red26, the arrows on the keypad move your pilots head, the standard arrow keys move your pilots body. Play around with it, you'll figure it out.
-
Setting the views won't really affect wether the guns fire in the middle of the sight or not Red.
Do what Ghosth said, look back (keep looking back), use Arrow forward key (hold till the view stops moving) then hold page up till the view stops moving. Keep looking back all the time, then hit F10 then release the "view back" key.
By doing this you have set your view.
If you still can't get it to work, do the other thing Ghosth said, do a search for the view packs on the forum.

I still wish I could set the back view in my Corsair to about where the rear-view mirror was on the real plane. It won't let me set it far enough forward or high enough. :p

Damn ground crew musta got drunk again..........

Set each view individually, i.e., when looking back adjust side to side with the cursor arrows and height with the pageup and pagedown keys. When you get it how you like it, hit F10 to set that view.

Are you using pan view or instant?
Try looking AROUND the seat...............
If using instant view go to your 6 view (hat switch) and HOLD it in the 6 view. While HOLDING the 6 view press the right or left arrow key until you move all the way against the side of the cockpit. Then press pageup or pagedown to adjust from there then press F10 to set THEN you can release your 6 view.
NOTE: this is the way you set all views (but the forward view), HOLD the view hat in the view you wish to adjust, and adjust with the keys, then press F10 to set, then release that hat view.
That is what I did and I can see pretty good out rear view of a pony. Either the B or D.
If you are displeased with the view you get HOLD that view with your view hat (don't need to do that with the forward view) while pressing the "Home" key on your keyboard and then press f10 and the default view returns.

That's because they didn't model the right cage canopy for the P-51B. They modeled the Malcolm Hood. Something like a spitfire canopy. Was installed on British Mustangs and later on P-51C and retrofitted on some P-51B's. But ONLY on the western front, after April 1944. No Mustang in Med or Pacific had it.
They modeled the field mod instead of the regular serial base model.
Double standards, if you ask me.
-
Not sure what you mean by "double standard"?
The Malcolm hood is historically appropriate for HTC's Combat Tour project, currently in development. (Also, it's cool looking.) :-)
Once Combat Tour is released, perhaps they will add another P-51b model with the original canopy. However, if I had to choose, I'd go with the Malcolm hood.

Yup sure is a double standard .
Why don't the spits have em. Bet there were a lot more spits than 51s with the Malcolm hood.
Thanx jaws for the excellent point.
:D

Bronk, while the support you give to your friend Jaws is praiseworthy, you guys are not well-informed on this issue.
The Malcolm hood was designed by the British for the P-51; they were not used on Spitfires. If you look at the Malcolm hood, it looks very similar to the standard Spitfire hood. I assume (although do not know for sure) that the shape of the Malcolm hood was inspired by the shape of the standard Spitfire hood, which came first.
BTW, my avatar is better than your avatar.
-
TDeacon I was being sarcastic.
Jaws I am assuming was most probably whining about the double standard luftwaffe get.
I was just poking at him a little.
The emoticon for sarcasm is not good soo i chose the cheese eating grin one.
Bronk
Edit : Although I am not 100% sure I still believe it was still called the Malcolm hood on spitfires.
-
Well this is the true. The cage canopy should be the default one for P-51B. (They can make another one if they one with malcolm hood and call it Mustang III or P-51C).
I mean you model the BF-109 G6 strictly to early 1943 standards ( early canopy, no 30mm cannon) and in the same time you add for the P-51B a late field modification, that was introduced to fix a major flaw of the aircraft. That only for the planes based in England.
The TOD is not an excuse.
For end of 1943- April/May 1944 there should be only cage canopies.
After that so you get the P-51D with bubble canopy.
If we go by historical facts in TOD there should be no P-51 before April 1944, since we don't have the right version.
