Why is it that the altometer or as some say that ting that telles you how high you are LOL dosent read right . because when the big hand is on the 1and skinny hand is on the 5 that shold meen that your at 150ft because in real flight the big or fat hand in the hundred feet hand and the little or the skinny hand is the feet hand Why when there at the numbers above it meens your at 1,500ft is that right or not guys???

Mickey's thin hand = hundreds of feet.
Mickey's thick hand = thusands of feet.

Thanks for clering that up with me because in a cesna I know witch is a cavilan aircraft The thick hand is hundred and the thin is feet? dont know why there difrent but they are.

Think of the climb rate and flying manner of a Cesna 152 or some such and then think of those as relating to WWII fighters. A hand representing feet or 10s of feet would be, well, useless. The altitude changes too fast for that to provide meaningful information to the pilot.

i fly a 172 & regularly graze under the shelf of class c airspace by a 10 - 20 feet confident that i'm not violating it. its easy with the right avionics, even in turbulence

Red26: Im confused Except for the 10k red tic, It works just like any altimiter Ive ever used. One circle of the long hand = 1000 Feet. 1 Circle of the Fat hand = 10,000 ft.

Ive only flown a cessna in real life never a warbird sorry I got something wrong will try to do better next time. In flight school they dont tell you what the gauges read in a warbird.

That is hands down the most bogus statement ever scribed digitally upon our virtual board.
You must be that guy that came in one day wanting a checkout in a 172 and upon request for a copy of his certificate he produced his Microsoft Flight Sim private pilot certificate.
Although, I personally don't think you have the aptitutde to actually finish THAT training.
I would say that I've never looked at an altimeter that I thought 'confusing' or 'illogical.' That's as much a response as I'll give dignifying your statements.
Though I do like the phrase "in flight school." You've either earned a type rating or don't know what you're talking about. Hard to tell which

i've never seen an altimeter that the skinny hand reads in feet, any plane ive flown always shows it as 100's of feet.

you should see a virtual moving tape with trend vector
it is teh pwnage

Never made it all the way in flight school one of my former buddys shot me in the eye with a romman candle and now my vision is to bad not only did I not finnish flight school but because of him I got discharged from the army. Now I wish i had never went out that night but crap happens. The flight school I went to was In Fort Worth Tx. Close to the old Carswell J,R,B,. Called Split S Aviation.

Are you sure it wasn't a scorpion that stung you in the eye?
