Why the surprise. They re-elected the cocaine addict as mayor of D.C. didn't they? It's like the Ford family in the Memphis Tennessee districts. One of those idiots was driving down I-40 shooting at truck drivers and they re-elected him too.

or alcee hastings here in south florida, an impeached judge, impeached for accepting bribes to throw cases.  he plays the race card, gets elected to congress http://alceehastings.house.gov/ in the 23rd district then promptly moves out of his district into one of the poshest communities in the area.  the only black people you see in there are providing services.

There is a reason those people are living in squalor, with no future or hope,  they were born stupid, live stupid, and will die stupid.

And they complain about not being helped in a timely manner by the government. Then the mental midgets re-elect the representative of the govt. that left them hanging, while complaining about the leader of the federal govt. who came to their ultimate rescue, talk about biting the hand that feeds.

Next thing you know, somebody from say, ...  Massachusetts, will get re-elected to some high office on family name recognition alone.

You are right on, Holden.

You know folks, its not like we had some grand choice of candidates. Basically, it was a choice between a mouthy, sort of confused (but for the most part, honest) mayor or a political prostitute. Mitch Landrieu has been in office for 20 years, and I'll be darned if I can think of one thing he's done.  He's nothing but a prince in a political dynasty, a typical Louisiana aristocrat. He acts as if he's entitled to hold public office because of his family history.

But I did hold my nose and vote for him (and I swore long ago I'd NEVER vote for a Landrieu). It would be easier to vote for the political prostitute than to try to explain to the rest of the country how Nagin could be re-elected.

Nagin was re-elected because the other choice wasn't any better.  The Landrieu family in Louisiana is much like the Kennedy family in Massachusetts.

There is something Mitch Landrieu said in the debate that I liked. "You can't write off an American city." Has an historic American city ever been given up?
If the United States allowed a large, historic city to crumble, would that signal a weakening country?

Do you know what the epitaph of a succesful civil servant is?

"He never did anything that got his name in the paper."

That's why Landrieu was doomed.

I'd say in the case of NO it would be seen as learning how to flush.

wow defending drunk kennedy the murder by comparing an accident that happened to a 17 year old child, two days after her 17th birthday, to his drunken actions of which he got off scott free.

Hehe... Something tells me that if a "17 year old child" (<---- rofl right there) was "chocolate", then you'd have a completely different category for child.

How about 17 year-old juvenile Lee Malvo?

Child? Treated and tried as such? What say you?

Two completely different cases, but there is something very disturbing to me about latching onto "chocolate" when you could have chosen, for example, "devastated," or "nearly forgotten."

"chocolate" was Ray "willy wonka" Nagins term for New Orleans...blame him.

He & Gov. Blanco are responsible for the outcome in New Orleans.

Ray Nagin is #1 - it was his responsibility to order the evacuation & to mobilize the cities resources to carry it out. Ever see the pictures of the hundreds of city school buses sitting underwater?

Gov.Blanco is #2 - she had the duty as head of the state government to call in the natl. guard & keep the federal govt. up to date on their immediate situation & needs & she dropped the ball by telling the federal govt. that all was well & the levees held HOURS after they had failed, watch her win re-election too.

I say let the sea have new orleans & mayor wonka too. Those so called "people" acted like savages in the aftermath of that hurricane & they have no one to blame but themselves for being there when it hit. They had plenty of advance warning it was coming. Screw 'em.

Those so-called people "acted like savages?

Wtf?

It gives you away.

"I say let the sea have new orleans & mayor wonka too."

Then excuse everyone else for nodding their heads politely at you, and moving on to figuring out how to save a great city.

Some of you guys are just nuts. Sorry, but.

Well let me confuse you with the facts. Those "so called people" you saw in the aftermath of Katrina don't own property in New Orleans. Those who weren't renters were public housing occupants. You can be sure it wasn't home owners from Lakeview looting WalMart for pampers. You want my house to sink because of them? Well what about the houses sinking in the north east? The should get a free pass because they get better news footage? Show the housing project side of town, like they did in New Orleans. Are you telling me there are no housing projects in the northeast?

There is footage of New Orleans that doesn't look like Haiti. The news media refuses to show it because of their agenda.

Again I must say, what do housing projects in the northeast or New Orleans have to do with it? Hinting at racism?

Let me spell it out for you. If you are too stupid to get out of the way of a hurricane that you know is coming, and you also know you are below sea level; a fact that has been known for over 200 years, don't expect the population of the Untied States et al to foot the bill to fix the damage.

If you didn't loot or rape or murder or cause general unrest for your fellow mankind in a time of emergency & your home is above sea level & therefore didn't flood, my remarks don't apply to you.

Now let me confuse you with the facts; hurricanes hit the coast. WOW, shocking revelation huh. I do not want my taxes going to any hurricane damage repair period no matter where it occurs. You chose to live there, live with the consequences of your choices. I think the federal govt. should not have spent one penny to rebuild anything, do it yourself or the state that was damaged can do it.

I've heard every arguement, I've heard people say, "nothing bad happened to anyone in the superdome", I've heard the "it was all poor people who couldn't get out" Well where was Nagin with all those buses that these idiots voted for AFTER leaving them in a spot?

I was living in a tent on a river bank for weeks away from my family trying to help those people, I had to eat MRE's & wait in line for water & fuel, I dealt with people calling me a donutwood & a cracker & saying it was MY fault that they got abandoned by their own govt. of choice. I came in from my 16 hour shift & found my shoes & my clothes stolen. Screw 'em.

Where do you live that isn't on a fault line? Am I paying for you to live on a fault line or fire zone. People on the coast pay the highest insurance premiums in the country. WE subsidize YOUR insurance. Thats a simple fact.

Sorry your clothes were stolen - cry me a river. I haven't had sheetrock in my kitchen or bathroom in 4 months and haven't slept over 6 hours in one night in 6 months. You know, I really don't care about your bad day. Tell me why the United states should write off a city. Did we write off California beach homes during El'Nino?  #1 Because it wasn't worth saving, you live on the coast in a hurricane zone below sea level. That's as ignorant as living on the side of a volcano.

#2 We should have written off Kalifornia completely when it was discovered that it is going to continue to have frequent earthquakes.

#3 Too much I'm sure, all those years of whining tree huggers saying don't do controlled burns & what do you get - Brush Fires; MASSIVE Brush Fires.

For the record I don't think the govt. should have bought out all those towns that were wiped out from flooding on the Mississippi either, you live in a flood zone - you get flooded.

Enough bad things are going to happen without inviting it & expecting everyone else to feel for your plight & fix you back up again. I have no pity at all for any of you if you get whats coming & you know it's coming! It's not a question of if, it's when.

And Nash, I could care less how far gone you think I am. I see your still trying to link my views to racism, when the racist is Ray Nagin. I don't like stupid people; black ones, white ones, yellow ones, red ones, gay ones sick ones, just any of them. If your too stupid to survive then DIE, it's natures way of culling the herd & we need the human herd culled in a bad way.

The eye of the beholder.

I think it's foolish to rebuild N.O. since it's below sea level. It'll happen again.

I also think it's foolish that the Government pays to rebuild houses of folks on the Outer Banks.

I think it was foolish to pay people in the Missouri and Mississippi flood plains that got flooded out in '93.

The foolish part is/was not buying their land as part of the payment deal. Then the Feds would own it and could make all those places off limits for human permanent habitation. And we'd get some nice parks.

I guess this all makes me racist.

See I really doubt that as you're speaking as if you watched it on TV.

There were a lot of people in New Orleans pulling themselves up without the help of anyone. But you'd have seen them only if you were in New Orleans, which I'm beginning to doubt. The news, for whatever reason, chose to show mostly government dependent people flopping over on overpasses. There's a whole other side of New Orleans, but again, you would only know that if you were here.

Now tell me where in the city did you pitch your tent on a riverbank. I know where the FEMA and NG camps were, and they were not on a riverbank. They were at military (navy) bases, parks, schools and post offices. How did you wind up on the riverbank?

I have worked hurricanes for over a decade from Florida all the to Texas & the east coast as well. I began right after hurricane andrew. So I have seen A LOT of hurricane ravaged countryside.

You want to know the exact spot I pitched a tent on a riverbank? I can't tell you that without a map...but; in the recent Hurricane Katrina & Rita restoration we started in central Mississippi & began working our way south until we got to Biloxi & Gulf Port. I was living on a river bank in the Gulf Shores area for five weeks, you people think you got it bad in N.O. pppfffttt, you only got flooded. South Mississippi got cleaned off to the foundations. When I went to Louisianna, (working our way west) we went straight to Lake Charles & began work there & used it as a staging area to N.O. In Lake Chuck we stayed in a closed down motel by the interstate & the same when we went to N.O. I stayed in N.O. for two weeks unable to work because of the problems with security, & since they wouldn't let me carry my own weapon, I left.

Everywhere else I went I saw people helping themselves, in N.O. all they wanted to do was cry about how bad they had it & how everyone in the U.S. was responsible for helping them. Get a grip, move away from there or suffer the consequences.

The response to Katrina at all levels was a disgrace. The people did little to help themselves. The local government sat on their fat tulips and did nothing to evacuate expecting the feds to step in. The state government did pretty much the same thing. Where the federal government really failed imo was in not kicking the bellybutton of the local and state government for doing nothing.

It's pretty simple when you don't go into it with a pre-planned agenda.

It means that there are some behaviors that are so beyond the pale of normal human social interaction that these behaviors are termed "savage".

Further, these barbarous acts define the humans that perform them as "savages" themselves.

Savage, in this case, being defined as "a member of an uncivilized people".

What I took from his comment was that he viewed those people as savages, uncivilized people. While I don't really agree with that, I think I understand what he was saying.

I think you, otoh, just took it as an easy opportunity to play the race card.

Oh, and why don't I believe it? Because there are many examples of "civilized" people becoming "uncivilized" in disasterous situations. However, rarely does everyone become a "savage"; some do and many more don't.

What happened in N.O. happens on larger and smaller scales around the world everyday. People become savages towards others, and no one race, creed or color can say "none of us ever did that".

In the "Us vs Them" that is the AH O'Club... I have to disagree with you on this. The thread started out as a hatchet job and people didn't disappoint. The use of "them" and "they" was well beyond general descriptions. I have to wonder if this would have been the same issue if the Mayor were white and a white crowd had just voted him in.

The irony is... this reminds me of MT's "this is an example of why religion should be kept out of the government" statement.

While I resemble that remark, I am offended by the negative connotations applied to the term "savage" in this thread.:O

The NO Katrina disaster is a librule embarrassment of huge proportions, a model of the 40 year democratic failed war on poverty with no exit strategy in site. When you speak of such sacred ground it tends to make them all loopy and weak knee... Nash being the stauchest of the libules really hasn't anything to add so he played the race argument like Jesse jackson does...RE-electing Ray Nagan was the only answer based on years of entitlements...The entitlements must not be interefered with...

People become savages towards others, and no one race, creed or color can say "none of us ever did that".

Amen brother!

I may be & harsh & extreme in my views of how to deal with certain problems, I admit that I am. I would have shot every one of the savage pos raping murdering savages if I were in charge. (yes I absolutely believe "so called" people who do that are sub-human & deserve to be put down like dogs, I would at least feel bad about putting down the dog) I would have arrested & jailed ANYONE I caught looting T.V.s & DVD players & P/C's etc. or shot them if they resisted or fled.

On the other hand; I would have helped them load food & water into a shopping cart from the same store.

It's not that we don't care about you, it's just that our tolerance for intentional stupidity meter has pegged out. They should either stop insuring you people or stop providing you with the supplies to rebuild, I couldn't even afford to buy the plywood I needed to repair my fathers rotting floor because of how high the price went in the aftermath of Katrina, all because of supply & demand. (and the price has stayed high)

Your choices directly affect the rest of the nation & the rest of the nation isn't happy about it, especially when we hear people in the disaster area that are outraged by the fact they lost everything & want to blame everyone but themselves & the people that were responsible for their evacuation & relief. THEN they turn right around & re-elect the very person who didn't do his job the first time. If a never before seen category of storm hits N.O. this year; a storm so strong they have to invent two new categories for it, I bet some idiots will still go right back in & rebuild.

It would have been much worse. If I were the mayor of a city & white & I said "I'm going to turn this into a vanilla city once again" & the population of that city was predominantly white. I would have been disgraced before the election even took place.

Ray Nagin is a racist & everyone who voted for him is a racist or racist supporter regardless of their race.

I'd venture to say that virtually every mayor in every city in the south is a racists. I've never seen a more racially divided area in my life.

The fact that he is/isn't a racist has little to do with the "they and them" being thrown around in this thread. Take note of the comparisons to Marion Barry and the use of "they" and "them" when it was done.

There is no end to the level of stupidity displayed by voters and polititians. Citing this as an example of anything else is simply wrong.

If the guy is an idiot, talk about what an idiot he is. The article enough provides enough fodder to do that. Enough about "they" and "them". When you turn it into a battle, they and them are going to fight back. You just saw the result.

my original post on this thread was pointing at the stupidity of the voters to vote this loser back in.  I threw in the chocolate city comment as an example of the mayors ignorace confriming the voters acceptance of more of the same for their city.

When the levels break the next time, it will be Bushs fault unless there is a dumbacrat in the "white" house...is that a racial slur too???

maybe Nash isn't serious with his posts, it'd be easier to read his rants knowing they were trolling bs...

Did you read any of this thread after your post... I mean other than Nash's posts?

yes I did
and Nash is  the first one to turn the "chocolate" term into a race card with his first response to my initial post. that is why I clarified it with my post before this one...

I do not even think Nash realized who 6pence and I were talking about before his threw out the race card in that post ... I think he was trying to get the thread closed as he must have a soft spot for stupid US politicans and the ignorant masses who keep them in office ...

So... that's all you're hung up on? Not the other 5 people that took the same term and ran with it? You have a problem with nash not liking the term, but no problem with others loving it.

Gotcha.

You do realize this makes him right... right?

The thread accomplished exactly what it set out to accomplish. Watching you hunch your shoulders with the "who me?" expression is the icing on the cake.
