Just bought a Viewsonic VX2025vm 20.1" widescreen 16x9 aspect ratio LCD. Optimum resolution is 1650x1050 at 60hz.
How do I make the game look "right" in the widescreen format?
I've messed around with the video settings using every combination possible and still get the stretched version when the game runs.
38ruk suggested changing the video8.cfg settings. I attempted that using notepad with no luck, perhaps I didn't do that right.
Can anyone help?
Thank you :)

I replied in the other post , im betting your video card doesnt support that res. I posted the directions to check which modes it does support in the other thread . 38

Thanks 38ruk,I'll check it. It is almost 4 years old, ancient these days!

You can copy/paste your video8.cfg file here. I'll edit it correctly and post it. It's not that hard, even though they misspelled a bunch of stuff. ;)

I opened it with Notepad:
132352,VideoVersion
1280,Width
960,Height
32,ColorDebth
1,DeviceCnt
DVRADEON 9500 PRO / 9700
0,MaxFPS
0,PixelShaders
0,VertexShaders
1024,MaxTexSize
2286,OptionFlags
1.46,Gamma
Thank you OOZ I sure hope this works, even though I've become used to the stretched version somewhat. I don't think my shooting % would reflect that though as the angles are a bit skewed!

I'd check that resolution to make sure...3:2 doesn't seem like a widescreen resolution...I out of it right now though, I'm probably wrong.

1650x1050 is not a 16x9 resolution.
OOz, you're right, it's a 3x2 resolution.
Some widescreen monitors are made like that though.

After checking again the actual optimum resolution for my monitor is 1680x1050 , not 1650x1050. My goof.
So should I just change the width and height, save it to notepad, and put it back into the settings file?
Thanks again for the help.

Maybe you need to set a custom resolution to your display card first with multires for example.

Another option. The later drivers from ATI and Nvidia allow you to do this without MultiRes.

Finally figured it out. When I would save the notepad file , after resetting the video8 file to 1680x1050 ,it didn't have the .cfg extension attached to it. I don't know why so I "saved as" and typed in the .cfg and presto!
And does it look good! Everything is proportioned correctly now and the screen is full.
Thanks to all for the help and advice, much appreciated.
