Title: Apology to the Yak
Post by: DoKGonZo on May 23, 2006, 11:59:29 PM
Some Yak was chasing me over the Western isles tonight around 15K. I got hit by savage phone ack from a client right as I got into range of things. Tried to string things out as long as I could as I kept running North-East (since I spent 15 minutes getting that d-hawg up there already) hoping he'd STFU but no dice. He just had to have a template mod done this instant.

Had to disco from AH so I could fire up Zend.

Dunno who it was but: sorry.

It was me. It's ok though, I was on the phone too. I was talking to this guy who I had doing a template mod for me. I could tell by the way he acted he just wanted me to STFU so I just kept talking. I doubt I'm going to go to him again:furious

I'd like to apologize for the actions and posts of my squadmates. We all know how seriously flight sim games should be taken, and such frivolity only cheapens the experience for all involved.

ps. Lighten up, Francis. Be that serious about work, not your cartoon fight.

Sorry, Doc, I don't get it.

Tink here cracked a postively clever, good natured joke. (OK, it was out of character... probably the neighbor sneaking onto Dud's computer, but nevermind).

It was cute but irrelelvant. Deep breath and all that, eh?

By the way, it IS class to apologize....having chased a con for a sector to see it disco myself, I know that can be Waaayyy frustrating.

thing is, the initial joke was not only hugely amusing, but totaly kind and playfull, like any fairy lover would be, but it was also not an attack on anything to do with Doc's life or business.

If the client maybe did detect a hint of impatience, and you knew it, doc, then the joke may have hit a soft spot without intent.

now the thread has all the potential to make a few pages (least i speak too soon, and avert the path with this pointless analysis.)

one of the possitives is everyone was laughing at a good joke, and not one of us was laughing at you. Another one being that your original statement to the unkown yak will now stay bumped for a few days and maybe the pilot will see it. Better that than no body trolled it and we see the best attempt the thread can do of what we might call base jumping down the page.

another pro developement from these words is that superdud has gone to cry  from guilt in the magic glade under the dumper bins out the back of a burger bar. he has relapsed into bad fairy groupee, joined with some pixies who do nothing but drink fermented honey and smash the watermelon out of any small rodents they can find on the street. possibly fully he wont make it through a third night in the rain.

so far all good.

the one negative being that you may have been offended by a motive that didnt exist, or just by the continuing impossibility for humans to take anything seriously even for a minute unless they will profit, or be killed.

either way, laugh at it if you can, and then send me a PM about how how i'm an outspoken little bastage who should just shut up and mind my own business. which would be true.

If you were in the P51, it may have been me. I was running low on go juice so I had to turn back for home. No problems anyway.:aok

Oops, just re-read your post and you mentioned d-hog, so it definately wasn't me. sorry!
Title: Apology to the Yak
Post by: DoKGonZo on May 24, 2006, 12:04:07 PM
Well lets see how my week had gone so far.

Monday I could barely get work done because since ATT "merged" with SBC I've had more DSL outages than in the six months prior. Every twenty minutes the service would drop. The ATThole in tech supt had some accent I couldn't place, but this person (either a woman ,or a man with his nads locked in a pair of Craftsman Vice-Grips) must be a fan of the TV show "Monk" because every other sentence started with "Here's the thing."

I tried to explain that the problem was on their end because the SSH to my ded-server's IP stayed up 30 seconds after their DNS croaked and wouldn't access URL's. But still they directed me to the people who troubleshoot line problems. Brilliant.

In the mail I got a notice for jury duty. Great. Last time I was on jury duty it ended up an 8-week long murder trial back in Boston. If you have a normal 9-5 jury duty is an inconvenience, when you're self-employed it's a serious financial threat.

Tuesday the "line problem" was somehow gone without any wires ever being touched so I could get work done in more than 20 minute segments. I decide to go for an after-dinner flight and up a D-Hog from one of the few places that isn't getting totally over-run.

Drag it up to 15K and the phone rings. They should never let marketing weasels get their hands on Photoshop and design web site layouts. Their fixation with showing banner ads and how it affects their "design" is something to behold. So I'm trying to explain current trends in web design to this guy.

While this is going on a Yak comes at me. I can only fly with one hand since I'm holding the phone with the other, and you need 2 to work the flaps and throttle, so I can't do much but avoid the HO and extend. And the Yak extends too. And extends. And extends. Out of vis range. Damn, a D-Hog would eat him up if that's how he's using a Yak.

So a minute or so later I check back and there he is at 5K off my 6, OK, I know this game. Phone call's still going on but I push over a little to buy some time. Yammer yammer yammer on the phone trying to reach a compromise which makes the client happy but which also won't result in a horrific mess of a site. The Yak keeps closing, I start diving more so hopefully the Yak sees I'm heading for a friendly base, and the Weasel keeps talking.

Finally we come to an aggreement but the change needs to go in now so he can see it before he goes offline for the night. I take a last look back and the Yak's now 1200 off but there's no choice. Alt-F4.

After the work is done I try to do the right thing and come in here and post an apology. And get crap for it.

Dok, while I can sympathize with your situation (I really can), and applaud your effort to apologize, I also have to laugh at what the Dud did.

All too many threads on this BB are full of vile and venom.  It is refreshing to see some humor (and not at the expense of anyone) along with a classy apology.

Heck, I would be just a quick to have made that type of reponse.  I do have a warped sense of humor.  And it would have caugh me off gaurd to have it taken personally by someone.  Especially in light of the classy thing being done.

For what its worth Dok.  I think you are being a bit harsh.  And this coming from someone who gets accused of being harsh all the time (thought I would say it before someone else did).

Now, maybe having humor tossed in like this is not your cup of tea.  That's ok too.  Now that I know, I will certainly be more mindful of it.  Maybe the Dud will too.

SuperDud's remark just didn't come across as a joke to me. Not last night, and not this morning. If that was how it was meant, I accept that.

I felt bad enough about having to disco on someone that I offered an apology.

Ahhhh    The good ole days.

Now we're forced to sift through topics started by lamers revealing thier lame ingame ID's and such.  It's like we've been secured in Ward C and given the little paper cup of green jello by the keepers so things stay tranquil.

I miss Whine of the Week and pigpiling players who talked about backward firing Typhoons.

(j/k Skuzzy. Well, kinda.... I honestly wish people could talk about the game and it's development like they used to. Gotta have something to talk about though.)

Dok,
I know exactly what you are saying. I don't post alot but I,ve been reading everything in here since I started this game. Conclusion.... About 20 guys in here post just to post. It's not that they are being ugly or rude they just POST on everybodys threads no matter what. This world is full of people who love to hear themselves talk and think they are so funny.
On the bright side, after 4 months I've learned how to "skip" certian names when reading threads because they are HIJACKERS. And just because several people do it and think its great doesn't mean its now acceptable. please see rule #2.

Edbert it's callled a back massage. give her a 25 minute back rub and then DONT pester her for nookie afterwards. Inform her quietly when she asks why you are doing this that; " i love you, and you deserve it for free every day "

the shock of these actions will force her to let you do anything you like for a few hours. tried and tested.

Man this thread really escalated  quickly. I mean, it really went up a notch!

The only response I'll give to DoK is this:

Why you would feel what I wrote is a personnal attack is beyond me? I really don't know you to well but from the post I've seen(such as when you made all those pics up and put funny comments under them) you seemed to have had a good sense of humor. You seemed pretty POed about the guy nagging you so I thought I'd throw in humor to try to get a laugh from you. Bad call on my part I guess.

I will add that what I wrote is about as far from what you would "normally" get on here. The norm would be for me to call you a cheater or a noob and that you did it on purpose etc etc...:aok
