Title: Officer Down...please take a moment...
Post by: Crapgame on August 23, 2001, 08:03:00 AM
Folks....please take a moment today to offer a prayer for someone none of you know. Officer John Bohach, 13 yr veteran of the Reno Police Department and married, father of two lost his life yesterday in service to his community and his country. I had spoken to John just a couple hours before he was gunned down by a methamphetamine addict and three time loser ex con. John was happy with his recent return to Patrol Division and the new hours. We B.S.ed for a few minutes in the locker room and then went our ways...me up to the gym to work out before starting my shift in Detectives and John on his way to something far more ominous...John was just another cop to most, but like all of us, willing to lay it on the line for others who couldn't or wouldn't do it themselves. Today there is a young widow and mother of two here in Reno who is doubtlessly asking "why"....as are his 330 comrades in the Department.

Naturally, when the SWAT team stormed the house where the suspect was holed up...he traded gunfire until he saw he was about to meet his maker and then he surrendered. John was never given an option. The crook killed him with a hi-powered automatic rifle from less than 5 yds distance in an ambush. In any event, please take a moment to say a prayer for John and his family. If you aren't a believer, then please at least give thanks for the honest cops out there who separate you from these maggots. Sorry for the semi-rant...yesterday was a long and stressful day and today promises more of the same as we deal with the aftermath..I'm very angry and discouraged right now...

I offer my sincere condolences and prayers for the family.

One of the most difficult things I have ever attended was the laying to rest of one of my fallen comrades. Hang in there. It's gonna be tough but lean on your faith, my friend.

I have attended more than enough funerals for fellow Officers. There are no real words that give comfort. All you can do is minimize the risks and go do your job. Try to remember the times you had and the help he gave while he was here. We all depart this life at some point. Some leave it with having done nothing to nake it a better world. Others (few) leave after giving their lives trying to make it a better place.

May St. Michael guide him to his rest and reward, and perpetual light shine upon him. (St Michael, patron Saint of Law Enforcement Officers)

My prayers will go, not for him, but for his family that is left behind with their loss.

My Grandfather was and my Sister is a police officer.  (My crappy eyesight keeps me out of a cruiser and out of the air).

Our prayers are with the family and friends, and the Reno Police Department, who seems to have suffered more than their fare share of grieving the past couple of years.

My stepfather was a sherriff in San diego before he passed away (not in the line of duty).  I remember all the stress my mom went through when he would be a little late or there would be something involving sherriff's on the news.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the friends and family of this officer and all the others, whether alive or fallen, who walk the line giving the rest of us some peace of mind.

I am sorry to hear of the loss of your friend, and I offer my sincere condolences to you, his other friends, and mostly to his wife and children. Losing a loved one is never easy, especially in such terrible circumstances. I hope they throw away the key!

The hell words aren't adequate.  The words are "FRY THE SCUM".
Maybe if we do that often enough, there won't be anymore of this kind of post or ones like about the federal prosecutor killed in Columbiau South Carolina Monday night, by a 16 year old, two 17 year olds and a 19 years old, just after they had shot up a drive in restaraunt and just before the committed three other armed robberies!
Nope,  FRY 'EM! NO MERCY!   They didn't show any, why should we as a society do so.

  :(   :(   :(   :(

Sorry for the rant!  I just go ballistic when the good guys go down and then we get to hear how sad it is that they have ruined their life.

Best of luck to you and yours Crapgame.  Not that it will help, but others do share more than your grief.

:( It always saddens me to hear of these tragedies. Condolences to the family and friends

And fer cryin' out loud Sunchaser and Sygygy, give it a rest until the trial at the very least, will ya?

The reason for mercy as a society is that we are better than idiots like that...

sorry about this.

<S>.  Very sorry to read this.

My father is a 30 year vet, and his partner and curling/golfing mate died as a result of a self inflicted gunshot wound back in 1997 in Sask, Canada.  My father has never been the same since that day, so I have seen a glimmer of what this officer's family and friends are going through.

My heart goes out.
