The Henshel Hs 129. Was the greatest anti tank aircraft in ww2 and i think should be in the game if you dont think so then reply
-
Define greatest?
I'd say the Il2 was the greatest. It's like saying "The He177 Grief was the greatest German Bomber . . ."
On paper, both those statements are true. But if I was dive bombing I'd want a Stuka, and if all around ground support, an A-20, Pe-2, Mossie, Il-2 . . .
Etc.

let me clarifi it was the best anti tank support aircraft
-
i mean one round and the tank stops blows up but none the less is useless

Wasn't this the plane with the cannons that fired downward automatically as it flew over a tank at low altitudes? I remember something vaguely about a package of stubby cannons that were tried for that; may be mistaken.
*edit* yeah, experimental package that used 75mm smoothbore cannon mounted to fire down and to the rear of the plane as it flew over enemy armor. The main model B-1/R1 is armed with 2 x 7,92mm MG17 and 2 x 20mm MG151/20 in the flank of fuselage.
The center rack can receive either 2 x 50kg bombs or 48 anti-personnal 2kg bombs.
Unless there is something I'm missing, the 110-G would do this plane's job better...the rare 75mm version was not good to fly:
Even by late 1942 complaints started about the MK103 against newer versions of the Soviet T-34 tanks. One solution would be to standardize on the larger 37mm gun, itself adapted from an anti-tank gun that had recently been adbandonded by the army. For some reason the Luftwaffe decided to skip over this gun (although it served perfectly well on the Ju 87), and install a 75mm gun from the Panzer IV. A huge hydraulic system was used to damp the recoil of the gun, and an auto-loader system with twelve rounds was fitted in the large empty space behind the cockpit. The resulting system was able to knock out any tank in the world, but the weight slowed the already poor performance of the plane to barely flyable in this new Hs 129B-3 version. im not familliar with that type of tech in ww2 as far as i know nose mouted guns seem to fly straight
-
it still would be intresting to fly in defence ops
-
Would be neat if they used the optics from the plane that would let you fight from a bit farther out. Like tank optics; let us take shots from a bit farther out than our current 600m or so where we get wacked by 37mm.

dude the JU87,Il2 and A-20 (ithink) were the greatest anti tank support role planes. Ju87 for the nice cannons and the nice bomb load againts tanks. And the IL2 for that is what it twas for. The A20 i belive did it i am not sure can someone clarify this??? the 129 i have never heard of until now.

Where'd you get your information?
Quoting the typical description found in many sources
"The Hs 129 was a heavily armoured ground support aircraft. The A series was underpowered, so the much-modified B used captured French engines. The Hs 129 had a cramped cockpit, poor performance, unreliable engines, and sluggish handling. Heavy armour and armament made the Hs 129 a capable anti-tank aircraft, but losses were high. An very unusual feature was the external mounting, on the nose, of the Revi gunsight; there simply was no room left in the cockpit! 879 built."

Everything I've read says it was a nightmare to fly. It's a great plane on paper - kind of like a precursor to the modern A-10.
I'd take a B25H over it any day of the week - 75mm howie, para-frags ...

Or a JU87G with the twin cannon, we are halfway there on modelling it as it is!

Exactly.
The IID Hurri already in the game is a superior plane to the Hs129.
Like Dive bombing Lancs, the Hs129 would probably be used outside it's real capabilities, say CV destruction, or Bomber interdiction.

yes we need it

I always like the FW-90 for it has the center mounted cannon in the prop ezy to aim and fire and if your short of the target or just over it its ezy to correct. Just my oppionon?

IL2M3! All we need are the AP rounds modeled. (so far as I know).
As to the general discussion, I have a hard time seeing past the Il-2M as the best ground support/anti-tank plane of WWII. I'm not sure which IL-2M would be better IRL or in game, but I'd like the chance to find out.

I think that roman candle damaged more than just your eye.
