Does an alternative exist which does not junk mail spam the hell out of me and is not closely affiliated with a freedom-hating major political party?

do you have a local militia that you could join?
-
you dont need to be involved with politics to enjoy your hobby, unless your hobby is:
banging interns
shooting friends in the face with shotguns
drinking & driving
banging interns, getting them pregnant then killing them
cocaine
or
real estate

I never realized the appeal before but were can I sign up to be a politician?

funked.... other than how they vote on gun laws the NRA has no interest in politics. They rate politicians by how they vote on gun rights.
It just so happens that the ones who will support your rights are about 95% republican and the ones that support the teachers union are about 99% against gun rights.
Sorry... you have to decide what is more important... a monopoly on teaching and the disaster that has caused in education or..... your gun rights.
You could also join any other gun rights group but they are less effective and... you will never see them supporting the candidates that are against firearms rights.. The NRA is just more up front and more effective for the buck and has the best magazine.
You can ignore the mailings... I mostly do. enjoy the mag and look over the freedom, gun rights voting records and questionares of the candidates. that only the NRA supplies.
I support the NRA cause they support me.

Yeah, cos I'm notoriously pro-union.

Just looking for a 2nd amendment advocacy group that isn't dominated by the neocon jeebus types.
I think Rabidrabbit answered the question before the short bus passengers arrived. Thanks man.

BOOSH IS TEH EVIL!
Remember that? Do you remember responding to anyone and everyone who had anything remotely critical to say of this administration with that blanket response?
"BOOSH is teh evil!" was all you ever said.... to any post. Any discussion. As if to crush it by the mere weight of some highly defensive and thoroughly misplaced sense of satire through the repetition of a meaningless four words.
"BOOSH IS TEH HITLER."
Mocking anyone who had anything remotely (it turns out) prescient to say.
I've sorta fretted about how to respond to a post like this... even though it was innevitable.
What do ya say, afterall, to someone that just awakens from a coma? Do you say that his snoring was obnoxious? Or do you just be glad that he awoke?
-
nash, nash, nash....
fer shame.
...you always do both.
-
Well yeah. :) and I just did....
Glad to have Funked back, but I'm gonna kick him in the nuts for losing his senses. :D
-
we're the ones that 'lost our senses'. He drops those tidbits in threads where we're the idiots trying to flog the dead horse back to life... same old 'bush battles'.. deserving of the same old 'bOOsh is da evil!'.
-
No no no.... Jebus... no.
Man... we've disected every single thing..... completely. Ad nausium. For a number of years now.
All of us took up our positions, and readied for attack... Which came, followed by the counter attack, and the counter-counter attack and whatever goofy thing else.
Funked didn't "drop tidbits".... (what are tidbits?).... No... He picked a side and started firing.
He ridiculed those of us who share the sentiment that he appearently now wants to share in.
Fine. But remarkable.
The funny (and tragic) thing is.... is that it probably took Comedy Central to make the guy come to his senses.

I always though Funked was being sarcastic.

You have great influence over me Nash. When you were endorsing Kerry on this BBS, I began sending more money to the NRA. Thought you'd be happy to know that.:D

Perhaps you did. You'd be mistaken.
It was a stifling of discussion.... during a time when honest discussion and debate was absolutely paramount. The eve of war does not welcome sarcasm, to my way of thinking.
Have doubts? Want to express them? Be prepared to be greeted by "BOOOSH IS TEH HITLER," and see ya later. Buh bye. End of discussion.
No particular viewpoint can be adequately satisfied by "BOOSH IS TEH HITLER."
It's totally retarded. And irresponsible.
But that was all ya got. "BOOSH IS TEH HITLER." As if it was supposed to mean something. As if the mere opposition to it was tantamount to some kind of betrayal not unlike the antics of the Confederated Tinfoil Helmet Wearing Union.
At this point, I don't really care what his motive was. It was insulting. It was stupid, presumptious, wrong-headed, patrionizing, and exactly the kind of discourse that you would absolutely NOT want to hear from an intelligent and considerate populace, intelligently considering WAR.
Funked got sucked in. And but bad. I don't know how, and I don't care.
-
Ok Nash, that is profound.

people who learn must have evolving opinions.

Yes, and that's why tradition is important, to have a guideline to go by so we don't get too far off course.
Nash is an artist.

Cant you just join a local gun club? I used too, and they had nothing to do with the national org other than beeing registered with them.
-
That's better than going shooting in a gulleyed out clay pit, and looking over your right shoulder and seeing someone drawing down on you from the road with a scoped rifle. Kid out with his dad. I yelled at them and said there were people out here. Then decided if they shot I was gonna let one of 'em have it with my .45 CVA kit Plains rifle.
Les
-
The real truth is, he rifle wasn't scoped, it was a .22 I think, but, he didn't lower the weapon immediatly. Kept his aim. I was nervous and aimed back and was ready to shoot, but they left then. I'm not sure they saw us at first.

Nash, I hate to break it to you, but I still think the guys who blame Bush for everything wrong in the world are retarded.

There was a pilot that was flying for Delta. He was an older pilot. He had just landed at Frankfurt Int. And the tower had told him Goodentag ground. The pilot replied Good day tower. the pilot had stoped on the taxi way to find his termanal. The tower then said Have you been here before and the pilot said shure plenty of times. The tower said then Why dont you know were you are going you are holding up the taxi way. The pilot said just a little lost for a secound looking for my termanal. The tower then said I thought you said you had been here before!!!!! The pilot replied with a chuckel. I have back in 1943 but I never stoped!!!!
Sorry if spelling is off guys:)

I think nash thinks that funked is just like him now... Some sort of liberal republican hater. I think that you are mistaken... He is just a teacher now so he has a vested interest in keeping the public school monopoly. I don't think you could find a candidate that you liked that he would endorse. Hell.... I don't think he likes any politician.
I don't either but.... I really hate the socialists you like nash.
Bush is evil... he is just a lot less evil than the guy that was before him and the guys he was running against.... wasn't even close. He has done some great things like get two good judges on the SC and drop some gun bans and take some wind out of the nanny get your gun movement.
He has herded up all the terrorists into one little chunk of sand killing field... He has cut taxes... Don't know what he will do about illegals but if he keeps nash out that is pretty good... anything he does about illegals will be better than what the last guy did.
The NRA is not a jebus or neocon outfit so far as I can tell... They support those who support firearms rights.
The reason nash has to hammer Bush so much is to take away any scrutiny of the people he would have in... go ahead.... ask him what he would like before you listen to what he doesn't...

Actually Lazs, my opinions on public education are more along these lines. (http://www.lp.org/issues/platform_all.shtml#educatio) But don't let me interfere with your straw man building festival!
-
funked... that sounds very much like my view on edcucation and very much like a form of vouchers. and.... I don't even know what a straw man agruement is.
Libertarian is fine but they are weak and ineffectual... they won't stand up for any rights much less gun rights. They are eggheads who are weak and wussie. Even liberals have more fight in em.
The NRA is strong and effective. I have no idea how much you know about em but I don't get any political sense except where it applies to fireams. I see nothing about religion.. or about other political matters...
maybe we are not reading the same magazine?
