OK, folks (BlauK especially), here is the patch company's initial graphics-only mock up of the patch. Let me know if anyone spots problems. Don't worry about the jagginess of some of the borders -- that's in there to simulate that it's done in thread.
A graphics-only mock up (often called a "proof") is the result of a patch company's graphics folks taking the original artwork and getting it into their software (which assigns the actual colors they have available and some other things), which then spits out a graphical mock up.
The next step (once folks are happy with the proof) is to tell them to proceed with the patches.

Thanks Brooke, at least to me it look pretty fine.
Just wondering why black is the only jagged color. Many small details appear quite sharp and ok. I suppose there will be no problem with them then?
I hope the reds will be brighter than in the pic.
I assume the gray color the background canvas (not sown with thread)... is it?
-
Isn't the name Officially Aces High 2
-
Well its still Aces High regardless of the version number.... and both Rangoon and Coral Sea patches also say Aces High only. :) It's just a shame this patch doesn't reflect the heavy GV use in this particular scenario....
-
Flossy,
the heavy GV usage was never intended as heavy as it became. It is a very subjective experience since some units spent very little time in GVs. I myself played 2 frames and had no time in GVs at all. AH is a flight sim, not a tank sim. As a sum of several issues the scenario (especially for some ruski units) became a tank scenario. However such action was never forced upon those units by the designers. It was simply chosen by the players.
The badge design was almost finished before the scenario. If it is too big a shame, anyone is free to negotiate with Brooke and make a new design.
-
I like it as it is.
-
I like it as it is also

I suspect the above graphical mockup won't be an exact replica of the sewn patch. For example, I'm still suspicious that they'll get that high a resolution on the wing roundels, etc.
They don't have a brighter red thread available -- I checked. The gray background is fabric, not thread.
Sewn patches are not going to be exact replicas of any given graphical artwork. They get reasonably close, but colors and some fine-resolution details won't be exactly the same. We'll see how they do.

I ended up spending all my time in GVs as the bombers I signed up for were too fast for my liking and I never fly fighters; but then I tend to think of Aces High as a combat sim and enjoy GVs as much as I enjoy flying bombers. Anyway, I do like the patch and was only commenting that it didn't reflect my experiences in the scenario, that's all. :)

Well done on the patch. Fantastic, IMHO

The first pass at a sewout is in, as shown below. It needs some adjustment, as noted below. If you spot other things, please post here so that I can do another iteration with the patch company.
-- Needs "TM" superscript on "Aces High".
-- Green airplane has irregular border and bad shape of wing closest to center of patch.
-- On two black aircraft, can't tell if the symbols on the wings are correct or not. Need higher resolution scan to tell.
-- Color of green airplane isn't the shade from the mock up. Any possibility for it to be closer to that?

Looken good Brooke!! Thank you so much for all your hard work!! Cant wait to get this patch to add to my collection!!

How about the payment for me in germany. Any ideas ?
-
Seems like the background canvas is black... it makes sense to sow the text on the background :)
The red star looks nice!
The coat of arms looks nice too.
The vertical bar of the blue cross in the Finnish flag is too wide (it should be in proportion with the horizontal bar)
Both the blue and gray colors should be darker, if possible.
All airplane markings should be of higher resolution.. or if they dont work, should the planes be left without markings?
What if ALL black parts came only from teh background.. meaning there would be no black thread sown anywhere? Would it work?
-
looking good...
Cheers
-
Cant wait for mine...Well done guys.
-
I want it to be known (again) that I want one! I'm not missing out again! :D
-
take a look at the back of your Malta patches and that will give ya an idea how there made ....
I do think the Finnish insignia on the planes wing need to be sharpened up .. but then it maybe hard to tell from the scan ..
other then that ... WAYYYYYYYYYYY Cool . I cant wait to get my paws on them and Get Flooded with Emails again
(not yet guys ... wait til there done ... )
-
I'm still iterating with the patch company to get the design tweaked. I'll keep everyone updated on the progress.
People will be able to get one no matter where they live -- no worries.

Moose like fries. (By the way, great pic!)
-
Well having kept quiet all this time. IMHO it looks great! Can't wait to add it with my malta patch. Also cannot wait for next scenario!

Here is the latest patch proof. Let me know what you think, folks.
This is a higher-res scan, but scans (with their bright light) have reflection off the threads, causing the scan to look brighter and more grainy (by a lot) than in real life lighting. I did this higher-res scan so that we could see the symbols on the wings better. For the look of the patch in real life, the earlier-posted one gives a better representation.
The greenish Russian fighter is a little darker, as is the gray background. The bars on the Finnish flag are equal thickness. The German and Finnish symbols on the aircraft wings are not all that legible, but I don't think much can be done about that at their size. The hands, arms, and swords came out well, though. I like it better without the gray highlighting around the black aircraft, but let me know what you folks think.
Looking at it in real life, it looks a lot better than this scan. I'm pretty happy with it at this point, but let me know what you think over the next few days so that I can do another turn on the design or tell them to go ahead.
I think the only change I'd recommend is getting rid of the gray stitching outline around the black aircraft.

-
I like it. :aok Just as long as I get one this time. :D

Good work Brooke!
Definitely leave the gray stitching away from black planes! They look much better in the first pic.
"TM" was supposed to be superscript, right?
-
OK, I have in a request to make the "TM" more like a superscript and to get rid of the gray outlining around the black aircraft. I'll let you know when I get the result of the request.
-
Looks great!
-
Looks good
-
Looks good to me . Thx for all the work Brooks
-
it looks awsome..... put me on the list for one ..... definately .... cant wait to see what the next scenerio patch will look like
-
Here's the latest candidate for the patch. I think it's ready to go. If anyone disagrees, let me know, otherwise, I'll tell them on Sunday night that they should start patch production.
-
I'd say roll with it. Looks great.
Nicely done everyone involved, Kudos Brooke for your efforts.
-
looks good! Cant wait to get mine!!
Great work Brooke!! Glade we have you to do these for us!! :aok :aok :aok
-
Has anyone ordered those for us finns?
-
I haven't given the OK to the patch company to start the production run yet. After I do, then it will take a couple of weeks to get them. Then Roscoroo will mail them out, like we did with the previous scenario.
I'll post here and in other places on what people should do to get Rosco their e-mail addresses and how we'll handle donations or whatever to help defray patch cost.
More information coming soon.
-
Do you need some $ contributions to help you defray the cost? I think I donated to the last patch run via paypal to someone. I am game to donate again.
Great looking patch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
The Stalin's Fourth patches are in. They look very nice.
Here's how to get your patch:
Use Paypal.com to send $2.50 per patch to brookeg2@electraforge.com. Include in the message the address to which you want the patch sent.
Of your $2.50 per patch, $1 will go to me to defray patch-production cost (it was $218 for 200 patches), $1 will go to Roscoroo for the envelope, stamps, and trouble of mailing (which is a huge pain -- thanks, Rosco, for taking that on), and roughly $0.50 goes to Paypal (their take when they process the $2.50 transaction).
If you were a scenario designer, CM, or CO, just send me regular e-mail saying so with your address -- your patch is free on me. It's thanks to you that we had so much fun, and it is my privilege to give you a patch.
-
Could the CO's or CM's do a mailing to the participants in Stalin's Fourth giving the information in the previous post? I doubt many participants are reading this topic.
-
im reading it and i was part of it. Do you have an exact website where i can pay? Im new to this whole paypal.com stuff.

I'll be sending my $ once it transfers from the bank.
-
Paypal sent. Now watching mail box.:)
-
I think I'll be ordering one as well. I'll be out of town all next week (and half into the next) but sometime after I get back, I'll definitely order one!
-
My order is in by PayPal.
-
Watchin mailbox.:aok
-
I've only got about 10 people who have ordered a patch so far.
Does anyone have the e-mail list of players? I'm pretty sure few are reading this forum, and I'd really like to have more than 10 people interested.
ROC, Finnish CO, Russian CO, CM's, do any of you guys have an e-mail list and can you either give it to me or do a mailing of the following?
----
Hello, former Stalin's Forth participant.
Our batch of Stalin's Fourth patches is in. An example of one can be viewed at this URL:
http://www.electraforge.com/brooke/misc/aces_high/stalinsFourthPatchFinal.jpg
If you would like one, please use Paypal.com to send $2.50 per patch to brookeg2@electraforge.com, and give the name and address to which you want the it sent.
Of the $2.50, $1 goes to Brooke for the patch cost (it was $218 for 200 patches), $1 goes to Roscoroo for the envelopes, stamps, etc., and about $0.50 goes to Paypal for processing the transaction.
Whether or not you want one, here's hoping we see you in the skies of many scenarios to come.
Best regards,
-- Brooke

Hi Brooke,
thanks for all that hard work on the patches. Some of us Finns will order our patches together in one batch to ease Roo's mailing task, Wasq has agreed to handle our order around here (Tampere region), so he'll be placing an order for about 8 patches, he'll get to it probably tomorrow. :)
Thanks again,
-
Brooke, I've got the registration list with all of the email addresses.
Let me work on putting a bulk email group together and send off that notice.
-
I have given the patches and the list of addresses (as it stands so far) to Roscoroo.

Yep, I sent out e-mail to all Stalin's Fourth participants (as far as I know from the registration list).

I think so, but Roscoroo would know for sure as he is the very kind person who volunteered to do that part.

Dont worry! I just came home and I found radioactive squirrels from mailbox.
Thanks CM team! nice job!!!!!!:aok
-
Thank you, I received my patch earlier this week. Looks nice :)
-
Brooke,
I havent recieved either patch for the last 2 scenerios. If you need my address I can email it to you again.
Thanks,
-
Joker, I have no record in the paypal account of you ordering a patch. Did you order one?
-
Joker donated a bunch to previous patch runs -- Joker, thanks, and you are more than covered. I've sent your address info to Roscoroo for mailing. Sorry for the delay.
Also, Joker, you did get a Fire Over Malta patch, right?
-
Yes I did Brooke, no need to add that one.
TY again
-
Are there any left? I keep forgetting to order one. :o
-
Yep, plenty left.
-
Lots of hanks for the patches, Brooke... I think I have forgotten these long due thanks.
btw. For some reason I have always thought that this kind of sown emblems would be called "badges" instead of just "patches" which in my mind refer to something used for filling or covering a hole in the clothing or in software.
Back in 1983 I was participating in a Boy Scout World Jamboree in Alberta, Canada, where I learned the english words "trading badges".. and the badges were this kind of sown emblems.
Just confused with a foreign language
-
BlauK, you are most welcome -- and thank YOU for the excellent design.
-
Brooke - did you ever get any of my e-mails (or pay-pals) re: the Stalin's patches? I never heard back from you, nor have I received any patches . . . .:cry
-
SKJohn, I got the e-mail from your brother, Gunslinger, and replied to him. I didn't get any e-mail or PM from you. Roscoroo is the one doing the mailing, and I sent him an e-mail about it on 10/10/2006.
-
the last orders are otw now . Sorry was just a few days late .
