880 Sqn Fleet Air Arm Seafire FRIII on the LIIc
HMS Implacable
British Pacific Fleet
May 1945
NN621
Should be useful for scenarios.
Scuffing but no chipping, as I would assume due to the hostile environment they were maintained fairly well.
Comments.

Like the scheme. Sure wish we could graft the Spit IX/XVI/VIII nose on this bird though with the 4 blade prop, tropical filter, better shape etc.
Something about the Spit V and Seafire nose is just off.

I think its that the lower nose profile is too deep.
More reminiscent of some of the Spits that had that profile, I think it was to house a larger cooler of some kind, can't remember.
I just wish they'd give it a 4 bladed prop, 6 exhaust stacks upgrade it to a Merlin 55M. clip it, and release it as a L III. Only scenarios we have had with the Seafire would have used the L III. (good double for the Vc also)
Oh well.
I'll see if I can dig out pic I found again. Showed a whole bevy of L III's on deck, and ALL were clipped.
(oh, workin' on a nekkid nine)
{edit} found it. Seafire LIII's on HMS Hunter

Very nice as always Kev. I'm pretty sure I've seen a photo of this particular plane assaulting the barrier on landing. I'll see if I can dig it out and post it.

Actually it wasn't the same aircraft, but pretty similar.
The pilot of your aircraft was Lt. Cdr Mike Crossley, who wrote an autobiography called "They Gave me a Seafire". I read it 5 or 6 years ago and he had an interesting career.
One thing that I recall from this book was a description of the very first combat trials of a G suit. Crossley lead a flight of Sea Hurricanes equipped with experimental Canadian designed G suits during Operation Torch. They tangled with some Vichy French D 520s and Crossley shot down a couple. The early suits were uncomfortable on long flights and didn't see a lot of use. IIRC though he did use one in a dogfight with some FW190s, while spotting for naval guns in a Seafire just after D Day.
He also managed to trade two crates of Scotch whisky for a barge full of P-40 drop tanks, which his squadron adapted to the Seafire. You can see one in the photo. Apparently the standard slipper tanks weren't very good.

Forgot all about it lol.
Think I was waiting to see if anyone else was doing Spit/Seafire skins, didn't want to be accused of hogging the slots.
