Well it was a little over a week ago that I called for a campaign to bring the "Greatest Warbird of the 20th Century", most produced American fighter of the war to Aces High. Naturally I speak of the humble P47 Thunderbolt. I thought a sitrep for those Jugoons out there might be in order.
In the first week of the campaign we have accomplished the following:
Gathered support for campaign from several devotees and even a couple Luftwaffles.
Compiled mailing list of Supermodels and actresses with known P47 sympathies. (Chicks dig the Jug.)
Reviewed plans submitted by Westy to bombard HTC with Pizzas to be followed by a ground assault element of HK MP5 toting swimsuit models. (Plan shelved until loyalties of the swimsuit models are authenticated.
Examined potential office space to become campaign headquarters. (Office space rejected when it was discovered to be next door to the Gore2000 Campaign Headquaters)
Began stockpiling beer and scotch in the event a large bribe becomes the only viable alternative.
This next week will be busy as there are numerous models and actresses who need to be interviewed for potential TV and magazine spots. Also will continue hunting for office space and reviewing submissions for campaign buttons and bumper stickers. All ideas entertained at this time and any support gratefully appreciated. Let's bring this bird to the game. Who in gawd's name really wants to see a Pfiel???

I am all for the JUG it is also my favorite.
I just wonder how it will hold up to the vast majority of cannon boats out there. I believe it had 6 50 cals but if I can remember it was a very tough plane that could take alot of hits. This may help even things out. I am sure someone will correct me If I am wrong and welcome constructive feedback on the jug.

The Jug carried 8x.50s and it was generally considered to be heavily armed. Not to mention the incredible ordnance loadouts which made it such an outstanding ground attack aircraft. True the Jug's toughness was legendary, (something which seems to be overlooked in another online sim-brand) but the real attributes of the Jug should avail it well in Aces High. Superior hi-altitude performance, great roll rate, hi speed and ability to outdive anything in the air. The trick to the Jug is to stay hi, make diving attacks, use your roll rate and zoom ability and most of all, NEVER turn!!!

the P-47 had dive flaps on later models for the same reason the p-38 did.

Hristo, The Jug could outdive any German Iron currently modelled in the game. If you think the 262 could outdive it, well it probably could, but are you gonna be able to pull out? I'll take a maneuver kill just as well as a guns kill....they both equal another tally to the Group score.. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Who in God's name wants to see another redundant US fighter? P-47 can't do anything that the F4U or P-38 can't do better.
Me 262 did not have dive recovery problems. It was controllable at much higher Mach numbers than any WW2 prop fighter.

Funked, thats a brutal attitude considering the German Iron actually outnumbers the American Iron in this game. I'm all for modelling planes which have been given short shrift in other sims, but c'mon, the Thunderbolt was the most produced American fighter of the war. The FW190, ME109 and P51 and P38 have all seen extensive modelling in other sims, but are included here because they define the era...without the Jug, the definition loses something. Sure, bring on the Yaks, Ki's, Macchis, Lagg's and anything else, but criminy....don't ignore the plane that broke the Jagdflieger's back.
As to the 262 dive, maybe it could outdive a Jug, but sooner or later it's gonna have to land.. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) and then it's .50 cal time!!

It dives better and is faster than either of those planes. It's tougher than everything but bombers. AND it's got more guns! 8 fifties are a beautiful thing my friend, and no other plane can lug those puppies around. <G>
The P-47D is THE BnZ fighter for the allies. No namby pamby E fighter like the Pony or even the Hog, BnZ is all the Jug does, and it does it damn well! I'd also rather have a Jug for any A2G work there is... nothing can take fire and keep flying like a Jug.
Any WWII sim without the Jug is like a works pizza with no pepperoni! Sure, it's still a pizza with lots of good stuff on it, but it's missing something... It's like a 6 pack that somebody stole one can out of... it's like... uh... flat beer! (Just trying to put this in terms HTC will understand.)
