Ok i just came from the training arena. I was logged as rook. I upped a c202 to see how the fuel burn was. I happened to fly over A1 at 20k, this was a bish base, not attacking or engageing anyone. I get some idiot shooting at me without asking or any warning. Is that ok to do? Did i misunderstand the rules?

You are supposed to ask before you attack anybody in the TA.
BUT it's also frowned upon to fly over Bish field A1 (where everybody generally hangs out) as a Rook or Knit.
Plenty o' map to check fuel burn rates. (the E6B button on the clipboard will tell ya' pretty much what u need to know anyway)

Something smells here.... Why would you overfly a very active enemy base to check fuel burn? Indeed, there's no reason to "check" fuel burn as E6B will tell you that. Moreover, the fuel burn rate in the TA is half of that in the MA.
In addition, being logged in as a Rook, the Bishop pilots cannot give you a check 6 or talk with you on VOX. They can't even PM you unless you're the only Rook on the roster.
Apparently you should brush up on the rules, which are found in the MOTD and opens automatically upon logging in to the TA.
Enemy aircraft should stay clear of A1. Don't even fly over. No one flies over by accident; there's 340 degrees on that compass that will take you somewhere else besides A1.
Now, the rules state that no one should shoot at anyone without permission. The guy who fired on you was wrong to do so. However, you caused that situation by providing opportunity. That's one reason why we do not want enemy aircraft near A1, it causes other players to break the rules.
Virtually every hour of every day sees some guy flying to A1 to bomb, strafe or pick a fight. It's amazing that this many people don't read the MOTD when it's right in front of them. Then there's the few who disregard the rules and do what they damn well please. Those guys get to do something else for an hour. That usually settles them down. If you want to dogfight, switch to bishops. It's that simple.

Widewing

I had been flying circles from my far launch base. Basically large loops around the center/northern area. I was distracted with a phone call and had inadvertantly gotten myself on a straight path that took me over A1. When i got fired on i took no agressive moves, basically kept flying straight. And to climb to my alt 20k, then shoot was a deliberate move. The rules basically say no type of attack at A1, wich i wasn't doing, just had wandered over.

I guess you went the wrong way, ric.

Wrong!-----All of the 2weekers that come into the TA are on default radio settings, the " Help " channel is automatically set into the text as " / " .

You have too be kidding right? Most of these guys that see the commercial on the Military Channel go get the game and come in the TA,The auto placement system places them ,those who are smart enough to figure it out take off in their P-51D (which is the default plane)and fly around, they see a bunch of red dots and fly over too them, they don't know any better.
That's one reason why we do not want enemy aircraft near A1, it causes other players to break the rules.
Truthfully i disagree with that rule on the basis that it applys too friendly's and not too enemy.I have started a new training system with some of the guys and find that it works really well,1 person stays bish, the other go's knight or rook and both tune too a upper channel like 217,218, etc. and are still able to comunicate with each other while you are fighting. It gives the trainer the ability too tell the trainee what he or she did wrong. For some reason it is so much better to train when the icons are
RED .

When you strated playing flight sims was it advertised on TV?Was it the same I'm in a big arse hurry too play and fight and i don't got time too read whatever that is generation?
This game has a very steep learning curve and most people spend the majority of their time tryin too figure out how the other guy keeps killing them and how they can make it stop.
You know honestly i figured all the trainers would now simple things like this, they are after all trainers.

Point of order, Mr. Chairman.
The overflight does not "cause" the unannounced attack. The overflight is a vioaltion in and of itself.
The unannounced attack upon an overflyer is the result of a conscious decision by the attacker to violate a completely different rule.
In short, an overflight does not "cause" an attack by triggering a Pavlovian response in a being incapable of rational thought.
It presents an opportunity for another person to knowingly violate the rules, that is true.

No connection between what's in the first and 2nd post. Not sure where Widewing is supposedly wrong. You cant check 6 enemy, you cant vox enemy without knowing their ID, you cant PM without knowing their ID. The ability to ask question on open channel, does not mean you'll get an answer.

OK, let me make it clearer. Enemy over flights of A1 (A1 is reserved as the trainers field) disrupts training at A1...period.
Train-ing-A-re-na.....training good....training disruptions....not good...distracting trainer to remedy the situation...worse yet.

LOL!
The handle says it all anyway.
"wrongwayric".... I can accept that, really I can.
I don't think it was an intentional incursion, and Wrongway?...Welcome to AH Sir!
We kinda have all these unwritten rules everywhere, and until you break them you won't know what they are. Takes a while!
TA though, yep its true. Not a good idea to overfly A1. It's the main meeting point for all who enter the TA. Red icons over A1 just add to the confusion for the brand new. They are there to learn the basics, they don't need the distraction.
cheers,

If it's red, shoot it.

This assumes several things - first that everybody stays on the help channel, second that using the help channel for something besides asking questions is OK (we discourage that), third that a brand new player even pays attention to the text buffer, fourth that even if a brand new player pays attention to the text buffer, he would understand "hey bish pony over A1 can I shoot you" was referring to him, and finally that the rook or knight wanting to engage could be certain the answer "sure, go ahead and shoot" was coming from the plane he or she is actually looking at.

Actually, all new players in the TA are assigned as Bishops and start at A1 so, in order to overfly A1 as a Rook or Knight, they have to change sides. If they know how to change sides, they should know better than to overfly A1.
Truthfully i disagree with that rule (referring to no enemies at A1) on the basis that it applys too friendly's and not too enemy.
Honestly, we don't care if you disagree with it or not as long as you follow it. And for the record, the rules are no bombing at any base which is in use and no engaging without permission. Those rules are not country specific. The overflight at A1 is country specific, but c'est la guerre.
I have started a new training system with some of the guys and find that it works really well,1 person stays bish, the other go's knight or rook and both tune too a upper channel like 217,218, etc. and are still able to comunicate with each other while you are fighting. It gives the trainer the ability too tell the trainee what he or she did wrong. For some reason it is so much better to train when the icons are

Wow, you invented this? On the other hand, if one or the other augers, you now have several minutes of wait time before you can re-engage.
This game has a very steep learning curve and most people spend the majority of their time tryin too figure out how the other guy keeps killing them and how they can make it stop.
With just a little time, Widewing can help you figure out how to keep the other guys from killing you, too.
You know honestly i figured all the trainers would now simple things like this, they are after all trainers.
Hmmm, you would think we'd have figured out a few things by now.... wait a sec... that must be why the rules in the TA are set up as they are!

I think you better check again.
