Yup, you can shoot back with two rifle calibre machine guns while you go 50mph slower.
Which would you rather have? 50mph or two rifle calibre machine guns?
-
Maybe if HT allowed it a couple of extra troops(12) it would be a nice addition.

some of those italian three holers, SM81 & 82 i think, had a better combo of defensive firepower, speed & ordinance delivering ability as well as carrying paratroops
-
Maybe im nuts, but looking at that picture im under the impression that the below fuselage gunner sits in a open "thimble" attached 2 the gear?????? wtf...lol
-
German, Jap and Russian goons are needed...
Imho the day the C47 goes into renovation 3 more goons should be made and the JU52 should be one of them..
Tex
-
C-47 makes a good japanese & soviet troop plane
-
Of course listed above is the German version of a "goonie bird"
What are the Jap and Rus versions ?
-
Both countries used a variety of transport planes, but both Soviet Union and Japan were using their own copies of the C47:
Soviet Union it was named Li-2, and different sources give a total of 2000-5000 planes built from 1938 onwards
The Japanese version was the Showa L2D, about 500 produced.
So I think, our trusty C47 will do for both countries. And to be honest, I hope that there are German planes with a higher priority in the queue than the Ju52 (Do217 would be nice :D )
-
I think that all nations should try to be as balanced, equipment-wise, as feasible. The JU52 for the germans is a good idea, along with the Hanomag as an equivalent to the M3, Sherman to the Panzer, Vospers and E-boats to the PT-boats, etc. etc. It gives HTC more choices for setting up future scenarios based on different nations' aircraft and vehicles.
It can't be perfect though because, for instance, the Japs didn't have tanks in the same way. Nevertheless balancing the sides a little more would be nice.

That gun position could be winched up and down inside the aircraft. They winched it up when it was time to land.
Only the bomber versions of the JU 52 had this - none of the transport versions had this feature though they did have provisions for up to 3x rifle cal. MG's. - One in the Dorsal position aft - and one on each beam.

Can do better than that.
Messerschmitt Me 323 "Gigant" Heavy transport (* butt-ugly to boot*)
First flight Fall 1941 Entered service 1943
Manufacturer Messerschmitt A.G.
Dimensions: Length 28.2 m 92 ft 4 in Wingspan 55.2 m 181 ft 0 in
Height 10.15 m 33 ft3.5 in
Weights Empty 27,330 kg 60,260 lb Loaded 29,500 kg 65,000 lb Maximum takeoff 43,000 kg 94,815 lb
Performance Maximum speed 270 km/h 170 mph Combat range 800 km 500 mile Service ceiling 4,000 m 13,100 ft Rate of climb 216 m/min 710 ft/min
Armament Guns 18 - 7.92 mm MG81 machine-guns (in one loadout example)
Could carry and drop 100 troops or 15 tons of equipment.
Who wants a slow, armed goon that can carry a jeep, M3, M8, or drop 100 troops, dozens of vehicle supplies, or several field supplies at once? Who would spend perkies for it?
-
It's such an easy target - yet it allows one to deliver a hanomag (oops - M3?) full of troops to an island. Cool.
Not sure what one would gain from it apart from the delivery of a light vehicle though.
-
The gain is bulk drops....
I doubt they could code vehicle carry anyway, but the ability to drop 100 troops, or 5 to 10 field supplies, or 50 vehicle supplies to an area. For spending some perkies.
And be able to shoot back..... Not great defensive power, but some.
Yes, still a big vulnerable target though.
And a good argument to give something other than arado for buff drivers to spend perkies on...... only time I take up arados, is three at a time to sink CV's Otherwise, I'll run Ki-67's first.

That would be awsome for gameplay...have them able to drop 1 vehicle..then you could have some interesting sneak gv missions!(use up bomber perks too)

Will the Italians had a pretty good transport plane.

why not add the JU52? it was used in just about every gernam combat theatre. Only thing is that people might rather pick the C47 because its bout 30-50 MPH faster
-
Actually that monster would be cool for dropping Hanomags (oops - M3s) quite far from the target at a place well away from the normal spawn point. That'll fox the campers.
Yup! I'm convinced! ;)
...and we do need the JU52 for balancing the countries up, along with something Italian and Japanese. Mind you, the Brit Anson doesn't quite cut the mustard .
-
how about a Dakota? thats a good british troop ship.
-
Yeh it should be. It's the C47 with a different skin.
-
Howabout a He-111 bomber with a "troops load-out option"? :)
-
The C-47 could become a perked Li-2 (which is basically a dc-2 with a top gunner and a russian skin)
