PB4Y-2 Privateer would be a good addition i think, the navy's version of the b-24. Lot better arrmored and more firepower :)

Why is it you think this would be a good addition to the game
-
It carried the same bombload as the B-24, Reached its top speed at a lower altitude then the 24, better climb rate, and it had alot more defencive armorment then the 24. It would also be nice to see a better naval bomber as well.

Yep, with bombers we have now it is almost impossible to sink anything.

Would be nice but dont you think the HE-111, Betty and the Pe-2 bombers are more important?

Honestly, I dont know much about German or Soviet bombers :(
-
You do know that it has no ventral (belly) gun
-
those two nice side turrets cover the belly except at extremely close range
...Each blister carried a pair of 0.50-inch machine guns. When both turrets were depressed to maximum, the guns converged to a point 30 feet below the PB4Y-2. Consequently, the protection provided by these blisters against threats from below was deemed to be sufficiently adequate that it was decided that no additional ventral defensive armament was needed, and the Sperry belly ball turret fitted to many PB4Y-1s was omitted...

Nice work on finding that, I thought the Belly turrent was removed as they were intended for low level use.
-
The PBY was intended for lower levels, Anti Submarine, and anti ship bomber.
Here are some screenshots from Flightsimulator 2004. :)

Lone Star Flight Museum-
PB4Y-2 PRIVATEER, #59819, N3739G, Hangar 1 at the LSFM [GLS]: Installation rings for the top turrets have been completed and the attach points are well underway. Royce McKinney is leading the charge in this area and the interior sheet metal work, and in the antenna blister manufacture/installation which explains all those funny grease pencil marks all over the –4Y. Great strides in the aft galley area, crew stations and aircraft flooring have been made. Engine nacelles and fairings are looking much better thanks to the –4Y gang. Les Wynn, our resident electrical guru, got all the big-iron drivers together and finalized the flight deck layout so he has his hands full now. This restoration is a joint maintenance shop/volunteer project but the vast majority of work has come from the Privateer volunteer gang.

looks like there may be a dead spot at the low 6:00.
a lot of these planes used to be slurry bombers

which suprised me, becasue the existing flyable B-24s were all warbirds valued in the mid-high 7 figure range
-
Debonair Your just showing off now .... :p
-
i pwn google - nah, i've always had a soft spot for this one because it was one of the last of the working warbirds
-
You know I always thought that the the PB4Y-2 would be a waste with the B-24 here already ...
But I too would like to see this old girl added at some stage, I like the idea of having those dual side gunners
-
:aok love to see it in the air but with all those guns its more like a gun ship but it will make a good patrol bomber for getting those ships
-
As if we need another American bomber... God knows we dont have enough.

Here is more information about the Privateer's armament and protection

Diablo,
Are they going to leave the 2600s on the Privateer or go back to the original P&W1830s? Last I heard they were staying with the 2600s.
I would have liked to gotten a chance to fly a PB4Y-2 to compare it with how the B-24 flew. Privateer is an awesome looking airplane.

Sounds good to me :aok

True, but a worthwhile add nonetheless. :aok

I know a couple of A&P's down there. Next time I see them I'll ask.

Yes :aok it needs to be added to the must have list, but there are planes & vehicles from other countries that are needed more desperately. (Japan, Italy, Germany) :D

"During development, the defensive armament was also increased by adding a second Martin dorsal turret and a pair of ERCO waist blisters. The Navy eventually took delivery of 739 Privateers, many of which flew in the Korean War. All Navy PB4Y-2s were retired by 1954, though unarmed PB4Y-2G Privateers served until 1958 in Coast Guard service before being auctioned off for salvage."
I cant seem to find any info about this bird flying during WWII.

Look at histories of these squadrons: VPB-102, VP-108, VPB-120 and VPB-122. VP-108 I know saw quite a bit of action with airplanes attacking Truk on several occasions.

Axis bombers first :(

Good, we need a bomber to get vulched off the CV..........finally!
