Seems what the media is claiming and what doctors are claiming don't quite match?
2 sources make this claim.................

I must be missing something. the first two links discuss the possibility that men also suffer from domestic violence and that women can be just as violent as men. (which is old news, just not as popular as battered wifes)
the third link discusses mental health issues with battered women. The only possible relationship between those first two links and your third link is maybe by ommission the phyisians reports do not discuss the mental health of battered husbands

Dang it LOL.
I should have gone back to a fourth link. That one brought out the old view that men are totally responsible for DV.
I'm of the opinion that at least SOME, not all mind you but SOME, of the women in a domestic violence situation actually create that situation.
They attack the male first! The male defends himself and the woman gets even more violent, etc. etc. etc......
Seen it, been through it once or twice.
Got punched square in the nose by an ex. Walked in from work and said hi how was your day. BAM! Then she started screaming at me for something I had never done?!?! She was drunk and angery about something her ex had done to her. We talked it out afterward. Seemed like I, or someone, had to suffer for what had been done to her? Old baggage thing I guess. Thing is after more then 5 years I got fed up. It never stopped. I tried to deal with it. She would drink 2 or 3 beers and want to talk about it, then wake up in the moring and say she couldn't remember anything we talked about. Finally got her to stop drinking when we talked but............ too much had been bottled up for too long I guess.
I finally just got out! That turned into another mess. She wanted alimony. I had supported her and her children while she went to school so she could get a good job. I had supported her and her children through many things. I had made considerable effort to make the relationship work and it was all on record. She didn't get get it.
We split up, she took a brand new vehicle, her kids, some stuff and went back east. Got the vehicle damaged in a hail storm. Because of where she was she got the money from our insurance company. She bought another vehcicle with it. She then returned the damaged vehicle to a dealership back there. They of course went through the roof! My insurance company was about to drop me. Had to scramble to get clear of the fallout over that.
Was bad and it only got worse!

My father could litter this thread about the exploits of his two wives. I'll let you in on what my mom has only recently done.
Up until now, I had been on my Dad's car insurance as an employee and my car as a company car, with me being the sole driver of it. Now, the car was used for company purposes (getting to job sites, carrying equipment), but it was mainly my personal vehicle.
So my mother called up the insurance company to clue them into what we were doing. The only way the insurance company could react would to be up our insurance and charge us 300 bucks more semi-annually.
My mother is such a vindictive demon, that she would hurt her own son if it meant hurting her ex-husband.

About 24% of spouse abuse is initiated by the female, 26% by the male and 50% is initiate by both parties.
In a park near my place there is a memorial to women abused by men. At another park near my place yesterday they had tee-shirt painting day whose purpose was promote awareness about abuse against women and kids. No one wants to talk abused men.
If you are interested in reading more about female violent behaviour and how society ignores it, I recommend "When She Was Bad: How and Why Women Get Away With Murder", by Patricia Pearson.

You know why there are battered men?
"They just don't listen!!"
;)
I've seen women use with relish 'trigger' words.. HOPING they'll get punched. I've also had a woman that was being beat upon by her man try to remove my skull from my shoulders with a tall neck bud bottle for decking the guy after he punched her.
the 'culture' of domestic violence is defintely NOT gender specific.. I can point to the dent in my head as proof.
I find it annoying, aggravating and absolutey assinine that the media reacts with 'surprise' to the simple truth that women are capable of violence when so much proof exists that they, in many ways, can be far more effective, brutal and mercilless than men when inspired to do violence.

:D My first wife, back in the day the dinosaur roamed the earth, used to try everything under the sun to start the crap. Used to rattle her cage when i wouldn`t fall for her game.
Talked to her some 15 years after we got divorced and the first thing she did was ask me if I still had a motorcycle. Told her , yep , and always will. She said the one thing that she really hated was when she would try to get me to fight , the first thing she would hear was my scooter busting off and going down the road. I told her she should have really loved that old chopper because it saved her sorry butt more than once.
Last straw was when we were arguing and she threw a knife and in stuck in the wall about two inches from my ear. The scooter didn`t crank up or go anywhere that day, but she did...........real fast. :)
On July 8th of this year I will be married to my wife for 34 years. Best thing that ever happened to me. She likes Harleys...............a lot.

Question that always comes to mind when I see.....
"She said the one thing that she really hated was when she would try to get me to fight "
WHY? Why was she trying, seemingly so hard, to get you to fight?
Has she ever said?
Has anyone ever gotten an answer as to WHY?
What is the purpose? What is gained? What exactly is served...................

I'm of the opinion that at least SOME, not all mind you but SOME, of the women in a domestic violence situation actually create that situation.
I would alter that & say MOST women create the situation. I have known some guys in my life that were just A-HOLES. Nothing their girl did was right or good enough & they were abusive. You could tell these couples because the guy always had that false swagger & the girl was always shy & quiet & almost always had that look of fear just waiting on the hammer to fall.
I have been in many knock down drag out fights over that & hitting kids. I got into it with a bruiser about twice my size in a McDonalds one time when I was about 19 or 20 because he backhanded an infant in a high chair so hard it tipped the kid over backwards & the child hit it's head on that tile floor hard enough to bounce.
I ended up bloody & having to go out the back of the Mickey D's but that dude wasn't able to leave before the cops got there & the manager had seen what he did & was a mother herself (she led me out the back when the cops arrived)
There are some things in this world a REAL man will stand up against, win, lose or draw, or with public opinion on his side or not. Like women & children first on a sinking ship, you just have to understand your place in life is to serve & secure their place in life. Some women will mistake that kindness for weakness; those are usually the ones that get in over their heads before they realize it.

So far no real answer................
I remember a couple. Was very strange to me. She would start in with her mouth, and if that failed she would finally physically attack him. He would at that point slap or punch her and then she would get all kissy kissy??????????????
She would do this over and over and over??????????????????
Is it a sexual thing?
Hey I knew this guy since we were kids. He was NEVER that way when we were growing up. He was more like what Brenjen talks about. It was like she trained him somehow or ?????????
Finally stopped seeing them. Was just too much to watch. Lost a friend I had known for years :(
Even got to where I wanted her to get popped or to even pop her one myself :huh
So please can anyone explain or TRY to explain. Cause I have yet to come up with, or seen, a satisfactory answer.
-
Well The women that ask for it like what you described are in it for the "whip me - beat me - take away my credit card sexual thrill"
My oldest sister was in an abusive relationship, actually still with the guy, they've been married for years, anyway he used to put her in the hospital. I remember my dad & mom discussing it & my dad said; "She must WANT to get beaten up because she just keeps going back to him & saying, But I loooove him dad."
I've known a few like that & a few that would fight like cats with their tails tied together hung over a clothes-line, then like you said wrag, thet'd be all kissy-kissy & into the bedroom before the swelling & bleeding stopped. Worlds just full of wierdos; no explaining it really.
