Ever since this patch I've been having very choppy framerate lately. Anyway to resolve it?
-
Choppy framerate here too - choppy as in three disco's in less than two hours. Of course I have some of the problems others are having too but being constantly discoed is hard to compensate for. Are we sure this isn't the alpha version? I find it hard to believe it wasn't debugged better than this pre-release. BTW, I very rarely had a disco prior to this. Coincidence?
-
Need some compter specs folks. A DXDIAG output would be really helpful here.
-
Skuzzy - here's the dxdiag from my machine. Just FYI, using Windows driver update service I did search for a newer version for the dsplay adaptor. The one I have is the most up to date - According to the Windows driver locator. I haven't searched beyond that but have had no problems prior to the new version. After first post yesterday got discoed probably a total of a dozen times. Did a pathping to your server - 13 hops - seemed okay. Did a ping -t for awhile and packet time was avg 47ms, 0 lost. Have manipulated in-game video settings with no apparent result. Will try to go to MA again this morning. Maybe the gremlins aren't awake yet!

IIRC, the 5xxx series of vid cards needs to use an older driver. I think Skuzzy said a 61.xx driver was needed for those cards.
I'm not able to search the forums ATM, but doing a search would be your best bet.
-
the 5200 card is a huge bottleneck in your pc ...(does it even have a cooling fan on it?)
try turning your video settings down in the game also
this right here
Current Mode: 1280 x 1024 (32 bit) (85Hz)
is straining that card beyond its limits while your in the game .
are you trying to run hires too ?
-
The biggest problem I had yesterday was being discoed. Maybe coincidence that it happened with the new software. I don't know. It had never happened with that frequency before. Maybe 3 times in two months. At any rate, after several hours in MA today, no disco's at all. The only lack of performance that I see is the frame rate - in the 40's range. It was a tad better before as I recall but I don't often look. Playability is all that matters to me. And no this card does not have a fan. I'm thinking about a new card. I don't need too much of a push. Any reason for a new techno toy is reason enough! Thanks for the input. I know you guys are trying. I think allot of heads are cooler today, including mine.
-
My personal theory is that the trees are causing the choppy frames. They look like they pop in then fade to normal, even at 10,000 feet. I think they're taking the time to render each one fading in or something, even if you're WAY the heck out of range.
Would it be possible to tweak the code so that the trees don't fade in unless you're in a GV?
-
Could be. They did say they changed it so that it wouldnt pop in suddenly, it was supposed to reduce the framerate hit from the trees and other ground clutter popping suddenly into view.
I have to agree though, every bit of strain you put on that card is going to make your fps worse. Whether it worked before or not is a moot point. It doesnt work now. Reduce your resolution (at least ingame) and increase the refresh rate on the lower resolution setting. You should also make sure you arent preloading anything except to system memory. Also, try a lower max texture size if you are using a larger one (ie if you are at 512 now, try using 256).
If there is a coding problem, they'll find it and fix it. In the meantime, reducing the load on your card as much as possible should help you keep flying.
-
Irwinkk, the driver you have loaded is a very old driver with a lot of known issues. You need to go to Nvidia's siete (http://www.nvidia.com) and grab the 61.77 drivers.
DO NOT use the latest drivers with your video card. It will cause problems. The 61.77 drivers can be found on in the archive section of the downloads page.
