Wow. This caught me off-guard: Pentagon unprepared for Bush action (http://www.cnn.com/2001/US/02/08/mcintyre.debrief/).
Also, GOP moderates vow to lower Bush's tax cuts (http://www.cnn.com/2001/ALLPOLITICS/02/08/tax.moderates/index.html).

Overall, this is how it's supposed to work isn't it?
A thorough review of what the Pentagon really needs to execute the policy then new administration has in mind. Of course, they are going to have to be able to pay for the fuel and consumables that are being used daily. Expect the review before major expenditures but also expect daily needs to be met.
The tax cut? I'm glad it's being questioned by the President's own party. Debate is good. Shows that this is an issue that needs to be studied and eventually agreed upon. That's exactly why we have the House/Senate setup. Our "wise men" of both parties (no snickering now (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif) ) will debate and decide.
That's the way it's supposed to work. Supposed.

The first item will take months to do, and is good...one doesn't want to just dump money in without knowing to what extent you need a budget.
The second, as Toad pointed out, is great! Don't follow the party line, ask questions, make sure the big guy is doing the right thing, analyse all aspects first.
Simple philosophies work in my life as well..example:
"Needs and Wants"
...ask yourself "Do I need this?"...if so, spend the money...
"Do I want this?"...probably don't need it then, it may be an unnecessary luxery that your budget cannot afford.
President Bush has said repeatedly that he sees room for
unilateral reductions in the number of offensive nuclear
weapons in the U.S. arsenal, although the military has
balked at further cuts.

I WANT a new LEXUS damnit!
Come to think of it, a new muffler would be just dandy!

I thought the GOP was pushing for a 2 trillion tax cut, going higher than Bush as the Dem's cut was set for 1 trillion...
How many zeros in a trillion?

Well, what about this:
"That took the Pentagon by surprise, because they say they need to have this request go up (to Congress) soon because they've got bills to pay, and they say if they don't get the
money, they're going to have to cut back on military training and re-program some funds."
"...needs to be able to pay its bills for things like fuel and spare parts, and if
they don't get that, they're going to have to cut back on the pace of operations."
"The Pentagon will continue to fund its front-line deployed troops in places like Korea and Bosnia and Iraq. So where do
they cut back? They have to cut back on training in the United States, in places where they can absorb the budget cuts. That's
why when they have to cut back, it's in places like training."
Seems there are immediate bills that needs to be paid, or *short term* the US military will suffer.
Am I missing something?

Cuts somewhere, maybe. Ever read what Powell and Condoleeza Rice think about our Bosnian deployment? (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Yeager, they're called homeless. Some are mentally ill. Nearly all of them fell through the cracks of our capitalistic society.
