Was getting ready to pay for somthing at the store the other day and was about to hand over a dime with the change I owed when I noticed something different about it.
Its sheen was off and it had no copper sliver when looking at it from the side.
Turns out it was a 1964 Roosevelt dime.
the last year Dimes were made using 90% silver.
Average seeling prices of these things now are....
$2.00
Yippie Im Rich!

you know there is a wisconsin quarter out there with a mistake on it... it will fetch about 3000 dollars....... interesting.....
-
hmmm i got about 20 of those silver dimes, and about 20 silver quarters too.
i got 3 silver certificates too ($1 bills from 1919 some dumb-ass kid came in to buy smokes with at a gas station one day LOL) i hear those are worth $10 each minium.
-
as for the silver certs.. they range in prices due to date and condition.. if there is one crease in the bill, its value is decreased. I have alot of them. I know what you mean about kids spending rare money.. my wife worked at a gas station and she used to get me alot of old currency, thats how i got all the United States Notes (red seal).
-
Working in retail, I see old coins on a regular basis. I had a couple jars full of old coins and bills until my stepdaughter and her punk arse druggie friends stole them.
-
Dred, I got 1964 dime about 3 weeks ago out of a vending machine. I also have a 64 kennedy half dollar, 1934 $10, a couple of $1 and $5 silver certificates, and bunchs and bunches of old pennies and nickles, oldest penny I ever had was 1918, but it was lost.

Not sure what these are worth, or even where to look it up...I received these from my Grandmother when I was 10. They are consecutive years beginning in 1957 through 1965 (1961 is missing) and they are literally in "Mint" condition in their original plastic sleeves with the original envelopes.

I figure by the time I'm 80 they might be worth something.
-
Ripsnort, mint sets have some good value to them.. if you have some in the 50s youre talking some good bucks.. ill be able to list the prices for you once i get home and look them up.

Jeebus dude, does the envelope from SF (65) have a SF minted coin set in it? 65 was the first year they started producing coins again (they make the special run coins you see advertised on TV). If they did a "set" when they started up again in 65, that might be worth some money, since they didnt make regular production coins there after 55 I think.

Yes, its an originally minted set from S.F. Here is the card inside the envelope with the coins:

Appreciate it. I doubt I'll sell them until I retire, but it'd be nice to know what they're worth. I may have to put them in my safe deposit box rather than the safe at home.

Dude, I think I'm gonna cry. I dont know what coin collectors are like nowdays, I havent actively collected stuff in a long time. People used to absolutely go NUTS for SF coins. Granted, you dont have a set there from when they were still minting standard coins, but having a set from the first year they started operating again is pretty cool. Having something from the old mint would be even better, and ALOT more valuable (pre-34). But thats certainly a nice set to have, for a "modern" set. Way up there in the "coolness" setting. :)

Any set from San Francisco is a proof set.. they are still sought by collectors, especially the frosted coins. Mint sets vary in price.. some are 20 dollars and some are several hundreds of dollars. I just bought a 2001 Proof set for 95 dollars, saw it for sale on the celebrity shopping network (a show called Treasure hunter) for 219 dollars..... Now, old coins from the Carson City mint are big bucks if you get them in decent condition.

They need a good beating!
I have "alot" of american money myself of different types.. mostly single dollar bills from the 80s that my mother didnt change back to norwegain after she went there on holiday. Have some older coins and stuff too that belonged to my great grandfater who sailed back and forth between US and UK and in the pacific during the war. Prolly only has sentimental value tho

Carson City and New Orleans minted coins are usually whats sought after. I believe all proof sets are minted in San Francisco, so they should be marked as so.

ok so you missed my lame joke (cheesy?)
anyway, if they buy it on ebay they'll probably over pay for it

Here is the quarter that is in all the news, with only half of the story,
and grossly overestimated values.
This 'error' is on the Denver (D) Mint Wisconsin Quarter ONLY!
As you can see above, the normal quarter (far left) has no 'extra'
husks to the ear of corn, whereas the two 'errors' seem to have
an extra husk, either high, or low.
At this time, we have only seen SELLING prices, from $150.00
to $395.00, but no solid, honest, BUY prices on these 'errors',
therefore, we are not offering to buy any at this time, nor do
we have any for sale at this time.

Hey Jackal.
Looks like someone gives a ....... huh?
LMAO
-
Ok heres one. Gotta find it so I can post a pic of it. Bunch of years ago I found a big arse gold ring with a gold coin as its centerpeice.
In the face of the coin is a night on a horse.
At the horses feet if you look real quick it looks like a cloud f dust is being kicked up by the horse. But if you look closer that cloud of dust is really a dragon.
Anyone know what this coin is?
No I dont know thats why Im ask'n
Knight on a horse with a dragon at its feet
-
Does it have a date or anything on it? The closest I can find is this, but it doesnt have any dragon.

Placing valuables on long strings and tying them off on the back of the toilet and flushing them is NOT a recommended method of storage.

150-400 dollars for a quarter... and you tell me about overpriced.. its all in the collectors eyes.. there are currently 3 errors on the wisconsin coin.. high leaf, low leaf.. and the second leaf.. you pick.. guarentee more that .25 cents thats for sure.. ive been collecting coins for 22 years.. granted new state quarters doesnt tickle my fancy.. i still look for them.. would i pay 1000 for a quarter???? maybe one from the 1800s... if i won the powerball.. ha ha ha
-
the meat of my collection is .50 cent peices.. i dont know why, but the halves are the most attractive coins out there.. i have seated liberty, barber, walking liberty, franklin, and kennedys... very nice coins..

i would buy that off you in a heart beat.. look at that penny... look at the nice red color it has now.. that fetches a few extra bucks... that franklin still has a nice color and shine... that franklin is worth 12 bucks alone.. very very nice..

If you find them, I'll give you the current market value for it. I'd like to have the consecutive years from 1957 to 1965. :)
