Does anybody else in here play world of warcraft, just started a week ago already have a lvl 17 warlock and 10 warrior, would love to join a guild that has some AH players in it... my ingame characters are Aregone and Aragone... I think I read on another thread that Levi plays, was wondering who else. Right now I'm in the Silvermoon realm playing on the normal setting until I can get a high enough lvl to enter PVP arenas.... Anyway who here plays... I'm looking for a guild to join

I play world of Warcraft I have 2 x level 60 characters but on a European Realm called Outlands!
I have a level 60 mage and a Level 60 Druid
-
Guilty as charged (60 Mage, I can make my own sheep), and I suspect this is off topic and is going to get moved.

Say goodbye to your social life , if you have one.

I'm the main tank for my guild on Frostwolf-US. Doing ZG & AQ20 at the moment.
They're not kidding, this game will destroy your social life.
I copped out. I got my girlfriend an account. Now I don't get yelled at for a 7 hour long raid session.

Two guys here at work are waaay deep into it. I tried it for a few weeks. Decided to be a mage...took me forever to figure my way around. Just not my thing...but a beautiful game graphically.
-
In all seriousness I suggest you not even start the game. you are 6+ hours a day and 2years of gaming behind the masses. The gap between gear is so outragrous now no one new can compete with anyone already playing. The games in a downward spiral.
The game is broken record grind. Here's a reply I wrote on the WOW forums. After reading what I wrote, I said to myself. "WTF am I doing playing this game". I promptly sold all my gear and items, gave my gold to a friend, deleted all my toons so I can never come back and canceled my account.
"How else will Blizzard keep you paying a subscription each month. The easiest way is to milk you with time sinks. That's the whole point of HK/REP/MATS. They've built an awesome money pit. Each patch they dangle new carrots for you to chase, and you do the samething all over again.. chase the next level's gear, the next instances REP.. rinse and repeat. They add new graphics and bump the stats up one level and you repeat everything you just did the last two months...think about it... 2 patches from now you'll do it all over again and come whine on the forums. For a MMOG it's quite linear.
.... enjoy those carrots."
-
I suggest creating new characters. People who use LOTR rip-off names are universally regarded as idiots or newbies and it may hurt your chances of being recruited into a high-end guild.
I played WoW pretty heavily last year. It's not a hard game to get into by any stretch; one might call it the "easymode" of MMORPG's. It's a very gentle game to start out in and the game sort of keeps you on "training wheels" as you level up--in other words, it's an excellent "first MMORPG". Starting out from scratch, it should take you 4-6 months to catch up with the high end, assumming you're competent. Competent players are highly in demand, because 90% of the WoW community is composed of dimwitted mouthbreathers.
SunKing evidentally doesn't understand the MMORPG genre. It's not for everyone. However, it's sort of silly to describe a game with ~6.5 million subscribers as being in a "downward spiral" while posting on the forum of a game which has never had even 1% of that figure. Sun--if you haven't checked out 'D&D Online' or 'GuildWars', you might want to try them. They might suit you better.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Here is something to be aware of regarding WoW specifically:
The game changes once you hit 60. Go into it expecting this change, and don't act surprised when it happens. The guys who bought the game in November '04 may have had an excuse, but nobody buying the game now has any excuses at all.
If you expect to play an hour here and an hour there, you'll get to 60 and have nothing left to do. If you don't like gaming with ~40 other people for 4-6 hours nightly, you'll have nothing left to do. Don't even think about PvP; if you try to PvP without high end equipment, you're just fodder.
The Blizzard official forums are a hive of stupidity and retardation.
Feel free to PM me with any questions you may have of a specific nature, regarding anything from leveling to class balance.

I totally understand it. Compare WOW's PVP and PVE to DAOC or pre nerf UO or GW and you'll see my beef. I've played em all. Wow is addictive and you can't stop chasing gear or you'll fall below the curve. Those 6 million players are hooked, and I was one too. I'm not trying to make you WOW fanbios quit. I was just explaining the nature of the beast
The downward sprial is the ever increasing gap between gear and raid equiped toons 1 shotting anybody that doesn't put the time into the game they do. It's only getting worse... . enjoy those carrots.

RPGs suck. I feel fortunate that I don't like them.

I feel fortunate that I'm super freaking smart, talented, cool and open minded.
rpgs are great fun. You just have to have half a brain and some patience.
-
I was partial to Anarchy Online and SWG. laser guns are more fun then Gay elves in tights. WOW was a boring cartoon to entertain the simple minded. I am looking forward to the Conan game coming up though, and Pirates of the Burning Sea.

A Conan RPG, eh? You've piqued my interest. Will this have Andy Richter in it, and will it take place in the future...all the way in THE YEAR 2000?!

The idea is to have fun and enjoy the game for all that it offers. I play with a number of old Aces High folks -- Honch, Yams, Wulfi -- for maybe three to five hours a week. I don't worry at all about all the phat lewtz and instead just have fun with the time I have. Getting wrapped up in obtaining the best gear while losing sight of what makes the game fun is sure to burn anybody out quickly.
Carrots indeed.

So going in AB and getting rolled in 5 mins or less because all the team are GWL's with BWL on farm status is fun? Not for me.
-
I don't do PVP because it doesn't interest me. I do enjoy the banter while hanging out with guildmates in Molten Core and the challenge of trying to become a better player. All of this with just a few hours a week of play time, and I still win phat lewtz and have fun at the same time.
The reason? I don't do frustrating things, I do fun things. I don't pay to do frustrating things, and now neither do you.

"I'm not trying to make you WOW fanbios quit."
I'm such a fanboy that I quit the game (heh, not much of a fan!) ; Blizzard took it in a direction I dislike. That said, I respect it for what it is, which is pretty much the most successful major MMO to date.
If a dedicated PvP game is what you're after, though, WoW is pretty mediocre. EVE online is a much better PvP game.

Phat lewt lolz
My uncle plays...Everquest? I think he has 3 computers, and then he plays on my cousins computer, 4 characters. When he was unemployed for 6 months or so after getting the axe from United, he'd play day and night. Don't know how my aunt puts up with it. I think it's my cousin, he's a brat, and it takes them both to handle him.

Nerds.

I tried that game for a ew weeks, and was utterly bored after 3 days. Same ole same ole...
I have a LVL20 dwarf warrior that I am willing to sell 1Bn USD, any takers?

This is a repost of something I wrote about a year ago on the squad forums:
I'm a sad, sad little gamer. [/size]
MMORGs.
They're stupid.
Everquest, ultima online, rubbish the lot of them. Stupid, repetative little games with no depth and the people that play them are sad shut ins who never see the light of day. Addictive though, by all accounts. Lost a couple of mates of mine for a good 12 months while they were addicted to Dark age of Camelot....or the Dark age of Crack as we referred to it.
And now there's World of Warcraft.
Oh dear.
The two lads I share a house with bought it. Pre-ordered since July last year. I remember a couple of weeks back looking over one of their shoulders and he was sat on a river bank fishing......which involved pushing a key to cast, sitting and watching the little float until it bobbed (minutes sometimes) and then clicking the float to catch the fish. Too soon and it'll get away, too late and it'll get away.
Goooooood grief Penfold!
I mean just go fishing ferchristsakes, you might get a tan ya fat ugly git......and go take a shower, jeez.
And then I got talked into trying it. Not the fishing, the rest of the game.
HELP ME!
Tonight I went fishing in game.
HELP!
It's actually entertaining. Not the fishing.
ARGH!
You actually start to care about your character.......your personification in this fantasy world which sucks you in and never lets go. Hit a boring bit....no problem, just quit the game in disgust thinking "enough of this ****, where's my spitfire?" and ten minutes later you'll be logging back in thinking "I'll just buy that new bow....then I'll show that damn ogre."
Oh GOD SOMEBODY HELP ME PLEASE!
I ****in' hate MMORGs.

P.S. My name is Swoop and I'm a warcraftoholic, it's been 6 months since my last fix.

Why PVP in a game thats 10% skill 90% gear? You are posting on the board for the best PVP game around, one thats 75% skill25% plane.
WoW is a fun PVE game, the PVP portion is lame.
I play less then 15 hours a week, and I am in a raiding guild, I have pretty nice gear without making it my life.
It is by far the best MMOLRPG out there.
-
Wow the 1st year was actually PVP competitive till the BGs and gear gap ruined it.
But considering I play games online to compete with humans rather than robotic mobs, that is why I'm back to AH2 and should've never left.
This game fits me the best.
Ah2 game requires skill. Anyone can compete regardless the amount of time you spend in game. And the majority of the community is mature.
Perked planes being the ubergear of AH2 don't require 4 hours a day to acquire.
-
Blue Baron once talked about the difference between online air combat sims and MMORPGs. The former is a meritocracy where skill trumps time in the game; you can have people playing for ten years with less skill than someone playing for ten days. The latter is a geritocracy which rewards the amount of time in the game and the amount of time spent playing. You can have the greatest PVP skill known to man, but if you're a level 1 character with no weapons or armor, you're going to get your bellybutton kicked by a pimped out level 60 every time without question.
Different games, different rewards systems. I much prefer a meritocracy, but I can have fun with geritocracies in small doses. I don't play WOW to fight other players, but rather I play it to coordinate with other players. That's the appeal to me, gear or not.

the one thing you're not taking into consideration SunKing is the additions of new servers by Blizz.
I played it when it first came out, got bored, and I didn't want to go back to a server full of 60s.. so I simply found one of the brand new ones and started there. Everyone has a fresh slate, etc. You don't have anyone with the crazy endgame armor, etc.
I just like the Warcraft lore so much that it keeps me addicted. I played all 3 RTS games and its cool exploring the world that you're familiar with from them.
-
3 60s, warrior, hunter, shaman. 2 are on alleria, 1 is on dragonblight
I am the MT for my guild, down to 2 bosses left in BWL. What a ***** some of the fights are. in Full tier 1 with a couple pieces of tier 2. Exalted in AV with all 3 toons, just because I dig the wolf mounts.
-
yeah I'm still kicking around in the silvermoon realm, i have a lvl 17 warlock and my warrior is now up to 15, I'm thinking of switching realms but worried my characters will get smoked by higher lvl characters... I've asked a few people in game and they said to stay on silvermoon until you get to at least lvl 20 then you can start exploring around with the pvp's and other realms. Only been playing a few weeks but I like the game allot, can't wait till I get to lvl 40 so I can get some mounts :)
We should start a aces high guild, i bet allot of people on here play wow as well, we could pwn everyone after awhile

D&D online atm .. Fernia server.. havin a bit of fun in a laid back guild.
A little more skill required than EQ, and I never have to make furniture again!!
Graphics are top notch, characters are done very well (can have two characters in identical armor, and it looks completely different), and based on D&D meant I had to try it.
Havent been back to EQ2 since release.
(poor Clawd Bawlz, my 60th Rat Assassin!)
My old time D&D characters have returned tho .. Oot, the fighter, Argle, the cleric, Skyl, the rogue, and Fudd ..the Cowar..er ..MIGHTY WIzard!
..and a two 'new' characters .. Grall the psychotic dwarf barbarian, and Cenye, my first experiment with multi-class .. rogue/fighter/barbarian.
Run fast, hit hard, wear plate :)
Some outstanding environments.. actually jumped when a trap went off I hadn't discerned .. guild is workin up to a Dragon encounter ..major bit of fun ;) Gone are the 60-person 6hour raids .. D&D raids are 2 groups max, and rarely last more than 2hrs.
Mostly its single groups, 6max, small unit tactics and some skill required.
(you dont just hit the 'attack' key and watch the show .. and live, unless yer tackling stuff that's fodder anyway)
(ie: when the GIANT swings, best to *use* that shield and BLOCK or get squashed :)

Most MMORPGs are boring to me now. Press a button or two, kill the MOB, rinse and repeat. Really, there is no skill involved, just a little comprehension and basic motor skills. It's kind of sad that as someone said above, 90% of the player base are nitwits who can't figure it out.
The last MMORPG I paid to play was City of Heroes, and that game was cake, if you took the time to read a little about how the powers work. I enjoyed the game for awhile, but it just got repetitive. It is the same thing over and over again. I think I got to level 36.
I did beta test DDO. That game had potential. I'm not sure if they'll get it to where it needs to be or not. To me the difference was I actually felt like I was playing the game instead of just observing my character play the game.
Back on topic, I watched my friend play WoW the other day for a little bit. He was just farming some XP by killing creatures just above his level. He'd fight one, win, heal up, and do it all over again. Just didn't look like any fun to me after have playing MMORPGs since 1998.
-
try using your toes instead of your hands.
that ups the challenge level a lot.
-
Yeah.
You can call me an addict for sure... I got one character... Human Warrior... Currently working on the twins in AQ40. The rest is just an big farm pond.
Play on Argent Dawn Europe.
PvP? dont get me started on this topic. I am one of those that "owns" people with their BWL gear *nod* *nod*. But the ques.... i cant stand the ques....
Blizzard very much sucks, its still an fun game, but instead of developing new content for it, they develop new timesinks. Of course you yourself choose to participate in the time sinks or not, i choose not too, and concentrate on the things i do find fun.
The timesinks is _definitly_ there because there is so little to do in the game, very little content in this one.
-
The timesinks sound just like what Star Wars Galaxies did a couple years ago if you wanted a jedi character.
-
My brother plays that game and makes fun of me for playing AH2, He went into his room with his brand new computer and world of warcraft, 5 months ago...and...:( Ive never seen him since :cry
That game is devowering his soul, If you happen to see a really big buffalo looking druid thing with the name Poweri please tell him his brother misses him. :(
-
I might have to try DDO. Havent tryed WoW yet cuz my son is still playing EQ.
When the last EQ expansion came out they put in some new fletching recipes, including some new bows. Once I figured out the new recipes and where to get the items needed to make them, my level 70 Ranger made 1 million platinum in 1.5 weeks selling those bows heh.
PvP in EQ is like PvP in WoW, it is really gear dependent. Those with the better gear are most likely to win. Biggest difference though is PvP in EQ is limited to certain servers while WoW has pvp on all the servers.
Here's a link to the bow I made all that coin off of (for those who might be interested) http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=47481

I have been playing WoW for about a year and a half, have a 59 mage and a ton of mid lvl toons. I guess if I stayed with the 1 guy I would have been 60 a while ago. Addictive...hell yes it is. Between this AH and Wow, I hardly see the wife (good thing).
any way..enjoy
-
I was an addict to Neverwinter Nights. After Atari played with my mind enough times screwing the game up so I couldnt login, I finally broke the habit and used the CDs for target practice.
PULL! BLAM!!
Anyway, I resisted the urge to try WoW. I finally made it out of NWN, I wasnt going back in that easy. lol
-
Which of these new games would you guys consider to have the best, most unrestrictive PvP?
I used to play UO until the pansies got PvP nerfed beyond recognition.
When UO first came out, I was totally into it. Player killers popping through moon gates and whiping out everyone in a dungeon while my weakling character went into hiding was great fun.
I never cared that I could die....that's what made the game exciting.
Is DDO anything like UO was?
-
Mr. Big: If you don't mind the sci-fi setting, EVE Online is the game you'll want to check out for PvP. Of the fantasy RPG's, none of the current games have topped Dark Age of Camelot's PvP yet; the upcomming Warhammer Online looks to be DAOC's successor.
J_A_B
-
Thanks JAB
I tried EVE once but couldn't get into it.
I guess what Im looking for in PVP is that it be pretty much unregulated, or close to it. Is that how DAOC is?
I hated when UO went into pansy mode because people were crying about being killed.
And PvP isn't the whole game for me either. I liked the whole UO world and the things you could do in it. It was very multi-demensional. Graphics are not even that high a priority for me.
-
i could always get into mmorpgs, but i always saw the futility of leveling, since i figured fightign a level 2 rat looks about the same as fighting a level 30 goblin or whatever...so i pretty much always ended up chasing money, which eventually led me to level up my character to gain access to the more dangerous parts.
-
Shadowbane seems to have a good PvP setup. Is that game any good?
That WarHammer online looks interesting.
-
You'll also want to check out GuildWars and the upcomming Age of Conan.
Shadowbane suffered from a terrible launch and its reputation never really recovered. I believe it has a free trial.

Guild Wars gets old fast, kinda like city of villians/heros I so wanted to like it but it is the same dang thing everytime

Im level 63 Mage. I'm looking for a decent woman in there. I'm done with the sluts in real life. I'm looking to hook up and start a virtual family. If any of you know a decent women who can be a show woman and a dirt woman at the same time, please steer her towards me. I will pay gold. In the game, I am known as SoulBlighter666. Thx.
-
Last I checked shadowbane was free to play. No trial, just plain free. The graphics suck and its still a bit laggy, but its probibly the best PVP mmo around.
-
DDO is not about PvP at all .. so far.
UO was all about just how much of a greifer could you and yer 'kewl dood' friends be?
See naked miner, kill naked miner!
Look, over there .. someone is having fun with some friends, lets kill them all, take their stuff, and use all the words from 8th grade playgrounds .. just for 'fun' .. ya .. UO was a real 'fun' ..for those types.
Unfortunately, I wasn't 8 years old so I didn't 'enjoy' greifers much.
PimPMASTAH as a name for a character just doesn't 'do it' for me in a role playing game.
I did enjoy hunting 'kewl doods' for awhile .. but they were always so predictable it got kinda old. Kinda like vulchin a dweeb only worse.
I enjoy workin with a competent group to overcome an encounter that is challenging.. a good group who knows what they are doin makes a bad group look *really* bad :) example: sailin thru a dungeon just doin it by the numbers, tank holding aggro, using the right weapon for the job, cleric keepin on top of heals-buffs, caster keepin on top of what's happenin, whole group maintaining fast-pace, just slaughterin their way through a dungeon that any 2 or 3 of them would not have a chance at.
It's very much like bein bounced in yer Spit at 4k by 4-5 bandits comin in from 10k .. and you and yer wingman (you do have one dont you?) ..just eatin em like a light snack.. or keepin em from seein your bombers entirely.

I've had it with all MMORPG. Dark age of camelot was the only one fun but even there I couldn't stand the grind. Never understood why I have to go through a month or two of pain just to get to the big Realm vs. Realm war. Even then it was all about chasing after good equipment instead of fighting. Warhammer might be decent if Mythic have learned something from DAoC.
The only next mmorpg I seriously consider playing is "Pirates of the burning sea". But I fear even that will get old really fast.
There is always AH though :D
Unless CT will turn out to be another mmorpg pain the the b...

LMAO. I know its a troll, but a "show woman and a dirt woman"? ROTFL.
I think Danica Patrick is a show woman and a dirt woman at the same time.
