Will I thought I start a thread on the new patches that just came out. (Version 2.08 Patch 1) Just post on what you like and what you thought was dumb, or didn't like.
Liked: The new flak explosions and tank round explosion hitting the ground.
Hated: Having to redo all my botton commands. Took awhile to get them all right, but still need to do some fixing.
What I think needs improvement. I love the new tank explosions hitting the dirt, but do you think maybe you could make the dust a little bigger, with like dirt particles falling from the sky. You know how in a war movie when a building or the ground is hit by a shell it sends tons of dirt in the air, then the next thing u see is sand like dirt falling from the sky making a rainy kinda throwing sand sound. I like to see the explosion look like that, some time in the future. Or just make the explosion a bit bigger.
But other than that it looks great.
-
I like the nice paisley aspect of the patch.
-
Wood finish. oooooooooooooo:D
-
huh?

Redoing the whole joystick thing was a real pain. However, once it was done, I liked the screen text telling me which mode I am in. I have wanted that for quite awhile.
Framerates are still great, at least for me. Other than that, it's a good advancement. They really did need to have an extensive help file ready for the joystick business though. Not having one was pretty poor.
Final verdict?: good patch, poorly done.
-
from my view of it, all seems pretty good, would like a toggle switch to turn off the little popups over the buttons, is a tad annoying.....
Framerates are the exact same as they were in 2.07 version
we may have only had a week or so of beta testing this, but after 6/01/06 release of 2.08 patch1, HTC(Skuzzy) posted an updated controller setup file/page on the help index page. most people did not even bother top review or check to see if it had been updated though, most just complained without venturing a link or 2 to see if anything was updated.........it was posted on 6/02/06.........yet most people with problems are still saying they can't get their controllers to work, Hammer also posted an updated controller setup file on his netaces site, but the link is in the Help & Training forum, not accessable through netaces website itself......
the people who did a complete fresh install of 2.08 patch1 verses just updating the patch to patch 1 ( the small update ) seem to have faired far better than those who just did the auto update from 2.08 to 2.08 patch 1 ( my personal opinion from all the threads I have read )
-
Dislike.......1-No more voice box in tower/hangar
2-Clipboard open to the right side of screen
-
Like: the enormous volume of whines generated, streamlined UI, new flak/tank rounds, no more buffs gunning from the runway.
Dislike: Faux wood grain, clipboard refusing to remember size or placement, pop up tags on everything, lack of ability to customize loadouts or select gun positions on the CVs.
Want: toggle for pop ups, clipboard to remember where and how big it is.
Also, the ability to set people on fire whenever the words "collision" and "model" are used in the same sentence.
I've observed no change in the appearance of the game, nor in how fast it runs. On a scale of 1 to 10, I give this patch an A-.
-
I think 2.08 patch 1 has a good beat, and you can dance to it. I like it.
-
Overall not bad.
Bit of a pain setting up mapping of some things but not a real big deal
Likes: GV explosions
Dislikes: clipboard refusing to remember size or placement, pop up tags on everything, lack of ability to customize loadouts or select gun positions on the CVs. (same as Hub)
Want: GV icons only seen by friendlies. I think if an nme gv can't see your icon, niether should an nme plane. Why have trees in the game if a GV can't hide from a plane. You fly by and get the Huge Icon below screaming at you....Down here in the trees...come bomb me. Ofcourse i don't do GV's much but still think it would be better that way. I know the LTARS would like it....LOL
hub as for your 1 -10 rating then giving it an A- doesn't make sense, shouldn't you have said like 8.5 or something...LOL
had to razz ya about that :D
-
New explosion looks great but... for god's sake why AP rounds explode like HE? :furious
-
junk hate it want the old version back i miss my osty p47 all of them and all of the p38s and my spit16!!!!!!!!!!

1st is was a Dead joystick, driver conflict I read. Loaded and re-loaded a poop load for an hour or so before reading it was an admitted mistake. Neat side effect, driver / usb fubar caused FPS to 1, mouse to do the jig.
Patch 1 revives joystick, somewhat, force feedback all screwey, still to this day, had to re-map every-fluff'n-thing.
Waiting for the feedback fix that HT says 'maybe' is still an issue...
-
Dislike: ever notice when you are on a CV in one of the guns and you go to tower and then back to hangar to switch which gun your in, the ships get tiny and misplaced in the hangar? They are so small it's hard to tell which gun position your selecting, and the cruiser is way over on right (behind clipboard) leaning up against the wall! :huh  :huh
-
I own a CH Products Fighter Stick, USB pedals and pro throttle. I've been away from the game for almost a year.
Mapping was every easy and straight forward for me. I like the changes they made. I'm not sure why the masses are having such a difficult mapping their sticks. I'm glad to be back.
-
Dislike the plane selection being in the main clip board window rather than a pop up. Much rather see the map and con radar dots so it is easier to select which runway is best to up from.

This is one thing I would have to agree with, that and the radio in the tower, but thats not a biggie...
But other than that, like i said in another thread I think it rocks
Mind you for version 208.2. I would like the autospontanioushumancombustio ncolisionmodelwhine option that hub mentioned as well
-
I rate 2.08 patch-1 overall a 7.5 out of 10 - Before patch-1, I would have given it a 6 out of 10
I like the new shell impacts from tanks, puffy ack bursts new look & I think the GUI improvements are ok. The little things like that are allright.
I wish they had run the Beta testing longer before dumping a three quarters ready product onto the masses, 90% of the issues people are having were brought up in the Beta testing thread; but what's done is done. We must move on & strive to help the others & HTC to improve what we have purchased.
These things need work:
Invisible objects on the ground impeding vehicle movement, I have seen trees *blink out* as I approach close to them or use the zoom.
The CV hangar & being unable to select anything in it.
The absence of a map in the hangar to see where you're spawning into.
The absence of the VOX dialog box so you can see who is in the tower. It's not an absolute neccesity, but it is handy to see who's on in your squad & in the tower with you for knocking together impromptu attacks without bringing up the radio box.
Going to the ship guns positions in the task group; some of the ships positions are half off the screen & some are at such an odd angle it's hard to see what position you are selecting, they all sort of blur together.
If you run a PT boat aground it will half submerge in the terrain & begin to flip up & down. (minor detail I know)
The video frame rate drops where they bottom out for a momment & jump back up causing little mini-freezes/hangs/stutters.
The clipboard jumping to the upper right side of the screen, patch-1 helped my clipboard re-appear in the same place it was when it was minimized in some instances, but in others it still jumps to the right.
I think HTC is on the right track by always working to improve their product; that demonstrates a level of commitment to satisfying the customer base. If they did not continue in this manner the game would quickly stagnate. With just a little more tweaking, version 2.08 is going to be fine.

I love the invisible hangers in CV's now. Very cool.

Waiting for the core duo patch, or whatever fixes the fluff'n feedback issue that maybe defenately exists.
I dont feel like getting used to not having such a simple and common feature thats worked flawlessly for a year.. so I wait.
Once I can game out again, it'll be a 10-10.. as of today its a steaming pile of horsefeces.
Maybe it's my fault for having such an exotic joystick, an ultra rare Saitek rumble force I got at this crazy place called Frys for a kings ransom of $25.00
... which I have no real love for and would replace if HT decides its just too much effort to get what once worked, working again.
Hey HT et al, if its gonna be 2 weeks for the feedback fix, at least say something... I'll go buy a stick that works and stop complaining.
-
the trees materialize as you approach them, then they reach out and cartoon kill you.

LOL hub :aok

x0847Marine: got the force feed back problem fixed today.
HiTech
-
any fix or driver update for the CV hanger thing? I also was landing on a CV today and it just disapeared. Just guestemated where the deck was and crash landed on it. :lol
-
Morpheus, try moving the "Object Detail" slider to the left of dead center in the "Graphics Detail" panel.

Likes:
Still seeing good, solid frames
Like the ground effects that were added
Love that my P-38 doesnt have a drag chute anymore
Dislikes:
Having to redo stick like everyone else
Bugs that clearly shouldve been caught before deploying
Hoping for strat fixes in the future. And smoother upgrades. Aces high has no shortage of loyal fans, let em beta test so upgrades go better?

I just got the patch working after two tries.
The automatic download went to blue screen twice, then I was able to download the patch manualy.
After the game installed, I tried offline. The game loaded. I then pressed the "webpage help" link and the game and computer locked up.
I rebooted and tried online. The game loaded fine. I tried to "alt tab" out, then got to my desktop with no mouse pointer. I "ctrl-alt-del" to shut AH down, and as soon as the system manager appears, I have a mouse again.
I went back to the game, mouse works fine. Alt tab to desktop, no mouse again until ctrl-alt-del.
So far the new patch seems to not be working so great for me.
I know, I should email or post in support. It's just that I work a lot and have a need for instant feedback :)

-

Any and all effort put into making the game better and better gets my vote:aok
Yes, a little bummed I didn't get my Wirbelwind, but I'm thinking their just taking their time on it to make sure it's right;)
-
It dropped my framerate from the 50's to the high 20's. I have a crappy PC with a basic PCI video card, so I say *ouch* Oh well, I'm surprised I got this far with ~El Crapo~ Time for upgrade...PCI Express :)

< LOVE THE NEW PATCH >
Mouse now works :D

So far I think that there is a lot a sizzle but no bacon with V2.08 and it's patches. Did patch 2 do anything? The only new thing that I can see that was worth the effort vith the new version is the ability to zoom in enough in the gun position of a GV to see the markings on the range finder.
When does Patch 3 come out so the F8 veiw gets fixed. It worked in V2.07 but now it's  And yes, I did try to remap it. It has other problems.
-
I was all bitter and ticked off I had to remap everything. Getting my stick's views to work right previously was a nightmare. Then I actually spent 5 minutes to figure out the new system and a few minutes later I was good to go. My view transitions on my second hat are the way they should be now and not jerky with the number pad keys through the profile editor of the X52.
Dig it.
