Title: Dust from fast traveling GVs
Post by: BlauK on June 06, 2006, 09:12:21 AM
It would be neat if fast traveling GVs would kick dust which was visible even to some 5-10k altitude. If they drove slower, there would be less dust.

Check e.g. this pic (http://www.defendamerica.mil/images/photos/apr2003/newsphotos/npi042203b1.jpg) or another pic (http://images.tomshardware.com/2005/10/08/stanford.jpg) or this one (http://www.mil.state.or.us/images/History/Azuwur76/May1.jpg) or this (http://www.defenselink.mil/photos/Apr2005/050331-F-9085B-037.jpg)

It might hog too much frames currently, but maybe some day :)

Nice idea. In a similar vein, how about variable icon or dot ranges? The GV's dot or icon would be visible at greater range if it was moving fast and/or every time it fired. Conversely if it had been stationary for a while and not firing it's range would drop from standard (crew camouflaging it).

you would be able to see dust from a gv at 5-10k sounds a little gamey

Have you ever been in a small aircraft at 5k?
I have been lucky enough to have been a few times.
I think you would be amazed at how much you can actually see  from that alt.

5K really isn't super high when you think about it in a real plane, I can see how it would be possibly to see a dust cloud.

Well, the pics that worked were of vehicles in a very dry enviroment & one was sitting still making no dust at all.

This would be a neat addition if we had a dry MA terrain, but they are all lush green terrains.

I would like to see desert & winter terrains introduced into the MA with all the eye candy that goes with it though.

Nice idea

Also different terrain types could generate different amout and maybe littlebit different colour dusts.

I thought they already generated a dust cloud? Do you have "Vehicle effects" enabled in options?

They just generate small trails of dust behind each track, not really a dust cloud per se. I don't think they are visible from 5K either but I could be wrong.

Right now the GV's already stand out like a sore thumb (little black dot in a see of green dots), not to mention if you click on ground view while you are in a plane.

It would be cool graphically, but would be like the wake behind pt boats.  Basically a giant sign saying "here I am come kill me".

If you make so GV's have increased air visibility when on the move, It only seems fair that they should be in ratio equally hidden from planes views when stationary.

Someone brought up the idea that you could add to tanks an option to deploy camoflauge, and have 1 or 2 sets you get when you up in tank.  So when you find a good hiding spot you could deploy camo to hide your tanks position.  That would be a good trade if it was elected to enhance dust trails.
